Pinery, Ipperwash
ready for weekend
Two of the busiest parks in Ontario
are gearing up for the Victoria Day
weekend.
An extensive communication
strategy, aimed at the campers at the
Pinery and Ipperwash for that
weekend, is being carried out which
explains the rules and regulations for
people using the parks.
"We have a great camping facility
at both parks" said superintendent
Ray Bonenberg, "and the staff are
ready to welcome the campers and
day users that will come to the parks
this season".
A letter from the park superinten-
dent explaining the rules has been
sent out in advance to campers who
have reserved sites for Victoria Day
weekend. "The message is simple"
added Bonenberg,"have respect for
others' rights and property".
Campers who have received the writ-
ten rules are expected to know them
and if they do not, to ask any park
staff to explain them.
Bonenberg further explained that
"enforcement staff have been in-
structed to be fair but firm with our
guests. For those who choose to
disregard the rights of others, create
a disturbance or vandalize property,
they can expect to be charged and
evicted from the park. There will be
no warnings and no second chance".
Visitors who are not registered on
sites will not be allowed to enter the
parks as well.
All reserved sites for that weekend
have been booked but there will be a
limited number of first come first
serve sites that will probably fill up
by Wednesday night. The rules and
regulations are designed to assist the
camper in ensuring that their camp-
ing experience is enjoyable and trou-
ble free.

Education Week
at St. Patrick's
Education week began at St.
Patrick's School with parish Mass,
Sunday, April 26. The school choir
sang at this Mass, conducted by Mr.
Gardiner and accompanied by Mrs.
McClure.
Following the Mass there was an
open house at the school. The open
house included a display of public
speaking, gymnastics and a puppet
play put on by the grade eight class.
During education week the school
and classrooms were open to the
public. A number of parents and
others visited us and observed educa-
tion in action. On Thursday morning
there was a program in the library
which featured recorder music and a
presentation of French skits and
music. On the same day in the after-
noon the J.K. to grade three classes
entertained their parents at a Spring
Tea.
Education week closed Friday mor-
ning with a Mass and a May crown-
ing ceremony of the Blessed Virgin at
the church.
Another big.activity at St. Patrick's
these days is preparation for our an-
nual System Track and Field Meet.
Try -outs for most events and most
age groups have been completed, and
we are now working on putting
together our team. The next month
will see a great deal of practice in
preparation for the meet on June2.at,
Finally, Sunday, May 3 saw a very
happy event for St. Patrick's School
and Parish. Most of the grade two
class made their first communion at
the 11 a.m. Mass. Following Mass the
first communicants celebrated with
their families and friends at a recep-
tion in the school gym.
Feast or famine
Area farmers will be quick to agree
that it's either feast or famine when
it comes to precipitation.
After watching fields flooded out
last fall, they are now watching dust
blow across as the spring rainfall has
been considerably below normal.
However, OMAF spokesman Brian
Hall claims there's no big problem as
yet, although he quickly adds that
some rain is soon needed.
While the dry conditions have aid-
ed in planting, those seeds now re-
quire some moisture to spur them on.
Hall said some people may be con-
cerned about the present situation,
but the only ones affected so far are
soybean growers. He indicates there
is no sense planting soys when it is so
dry.
The dry conditions have enabled
most corn producers to spray on her-
bicides, but now they need a rainfall
to get those chemicals working.
"We would use a good day's rain,"
Hall concluded. A couple of inches
would 148 nice."
