The Ilensall Cubs,. Beavers Scouts
and Venturers spent Saturday morn-
ing on a village clean-up. The boys did
a great job at picking up a winter's
accumulation of trash, broken glass
and pop cans which were littering our
streets. Let's all work extra hard to
keep that fresh clean look.
On Thursday the Hensall Cubs were
given a tour of the Nabisco plant in
Exeter, better known in this area as
"the Canners". The guide for the tour
was Ron. Hartman a maintenance
mechanic at the plant.
The boys enjoyed their visit and
learned how the operation works as
illustrated in -this report by Hensall
Cub Philip Ingram.
On Thursday. April 30, the Hensall
Cub Pack visited the canning factory
t Nabisco Ltd. ) in Exeter. We saw a
big container like a, silo that they
make creamed corn in. There are
people who check for cobs which will
go down the garbage chute.
Where the labellers are they know
what is in the cans by the numbers
and letters punched on the tops of the
cans.
There is a big storeroom and in the
storeroom there are boxes of peas,
corn, creamed corn, peaches and
beans. Mr. Hartman showed us some
of the machines and equipment used
at the factory. •
Thanks to our leaders Kay Gardner
and Ken Clarke for taking us and to
Ron Hartman who gave us some
samples and emptly cans to use as
May banks.
Special collection
The Hensall Special household Gar-
bage spring collection will be held on
May 26 and 27. To facilitate collection
on the two days the village will be
divided in half at King St. with
theNorth half (including East side of
No. 4 highway) being collected on
Tuesday, May 26 and the south half
