Crediton UCW celebrates 25 years

Zion United UCW celebrated their
25th anniversary, Sunday morning.
Mrs. Mary Elder lead in worship.
Mrs. Eleanon Roeszler read scrip-
tures and also Linda Finkbeiner.
Mrs. Millie Desjardine favoured
with two solos and Mrs. Verna Burgin
was the guest speaker.
Mrs. Nancy Brand read the
announcements.
Mrs. Jean Neil lit the first candle
for the past. Mrs. Mary Kenney lit the
second for the present, and Mrs. Lin-
da Finkbeiner lit the one for the
future.
The pulpit was decorated with
balloons which each had a saying on
it of what the UCW does. They were
handed out to the people in the au-
dience by Mrs. Irene Haugh, Mrs.
Mary Drasey, Mrs. Evelyn Pickering
and Mrs. Marg Wilson.
Thanks to all the ladies and to the
guest speaker Mrs. Verna Burgin and
the soloist .Mrs. Millie Desjardine.
Choir practice will be Wednesday
evening at 8 p.m. in the Sunday School
rooms.
UCW meeting will be held April 30.
Note date change. Roll call is a
favourite thing you like to bake over
all else.

Wednesday, April 29 at the Kirkton
Community Centre, please leave your
name with Linda Finkbeiner or Mary
Kenney. Time is 6 p.m.
In hospital at South Huron, Exeter
is Oscar Pfaff, Mrs. Alma Schwartz,
Mrs. Helen Ratz, at University Lon-
don Bob Pfaff and Mr. Harold
Finkbeiner.
Sympathy is extended to the
families of the late Mrs. Ruth
Eveland, who passed away Sunday
evening at University Hospital, Lon-
don. Ruth will be sadly missed by all
her friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Stan Preszcator were
Sunday supper guests, along with Mr.
and Mrs. Harold McCallum, RR 1
Walton at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Norman Hubley, Seaforth.
Mrs. Allan Finkbeiner returned
home from a visit with her daughter
and son-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Barry
Johnson in Toronto. While there she
attended a fashion show at the Con-
vention Centre and saw Sleeping
Beauty at the O'Keefe Centre in
Toronto. -
• Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd E. Regele,
Princeton, were Saturday visitors
with Mr. and Mrs. Joe Regier and at-
tended the sale of the late Ken Kuhn.
Jack Jesney returned home from
St. Joseph's Hospital, London and
Eldon Smith returned home from
South Huron, Exeter.
A successful sale was held Saturday
for the estate of the late Ken Kuhn.
Last week's visitors with Mr. and
Mrs. Stan Preszcator were'Mr. and
Mrs. Norman Hubley, Seaforth, Mrs.
Lorna Barnes, RR 1 Thedford, Ms.
Judy Young, Ed Preszcator and son

Bedell attended the A.C.W. annual at
St. Pauls Cathedral London,
Thursday.
Mrs. Arnold Cunningham is home
after surgery at a London Hospital
and I'm sorry to report that Mrs.
Eileen Carroll is a patient at the Villa,
Exeter.

and Kathy Winters on the entertain-
ment committee decorated the hall
with card tables and on them were
daffodils and wild flowers. The walls
were hung with tree branches and
paper flowers which represented a
magnolia or tulip tree. From the ceil-
ing hung big crepe paper butterflies.
Alot of credit goes out to the entertain-
ment committee as they spend a lot
of time decorating.
A beautiful lunch of ham, potato
salad, devilled eggs and rolls was
prepared by the lunch committee,
John and Marion Hodgins, Gerald and
Irene Lynn.
Happy birthday was sung to Charlie
Browning Sr. and Mrs. Marion
Froats. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Lynn
were winners of the spot dance.
Light and Easy provided the music
for a good night of entertainment.

was unable to attend.
Personals
Richard and Jeff Hayter, Toronto,
visited with their mother Gloria
Hayter. Later they visited their dad
in St. Joseph's hospital London, who
has surgery. Ile is improving quite
nicely. -
Mr. and Mrs. Nick Biesenthal and
daughter, Linda from Regina, Saskat-
chewan visited with Melvin, Gertie
and Sherrie Stade for the weekend.
Linda is going to work at the
Kitchener -Waterloo Ilospital. . .

Dashwood senior citizens met Mon-
day evening April 20 with 32 present
and three visitors. The May meeting
will be Tuesday May 19 with Mrs.
Eben Weigand and her committee in
charge. Members are invited to
Zurich May 11 to play cards. Mr. and
Mrs. Len McKnight from Exeter
were guests and.he spoke on seniors
housing.

baskets donated for Rally,

Men's Club
. Dashwood Men's Club held their
meeting Friday evening. It was ladies
night with the ladies receiving cor-

Middlesex road .grants
announced by Reycraft
Doug Reycraft, MPP for Mid-
dlesex. has announced grants totall-
ing $407,100 under the Ontario
Municipal Improvement Fund for
nine municipalities in Middlesex.
Reycraft made the announcement on
behalf of the honourable Ed Fulton,
Ministe-r of Transportation and
Communications.
"The Ontario Municipal Improve-
ment Fund was established by,.the
government to help municipalities
undertake additional road and bridge
work", said Reycraft. "These funds
will be directed towards projects that
could not be met within the normal
program budget of the Ministry," he
added.
The nine allocations to Middlesex
municipalties are: $31,400 to North
Dorchester Township for a sand/salt
storage buildling; $32,500 to Ekfrid
Township for bridge replacement on
Sideroad No. 20; $105,000 to Lobo
Township for bridge approaches and
culvert replacement; $71,200 to Lon-
don Township for the Hudd Bridge
and London/Lobo Townline
reconstruction; $7,500 to Newbury for
paving Gratton, Thompson and
Durham Streets and drainage works:
$17,000 to West Nissouri Township for
. bridge repairs and bridge deck water-
proofing; $37,000 to the Oneida Indian
Reserve for the River Road realign-
ment; $20,500 to Strathroy for road
and drainage improvements on the
Second Line; $85,000 to Westminister
Township for replacement of the Vic-
toria Road bridge, double surface
treatment on White Oak Sideroad and
additional maintenance work.
"I am delighted .that the govern-
ment's commitment to assist the im-
provement and maintenance of our
roads and highways has been further
reinforced," said Reycraft.
