Deer season for bow hunters increases
The 1987 fall deer season for bow
hunters in a number of counties in
Western Ontario will be longer as part
of a province -wide increase planned
for the deer hunt.
The shotgun season in Middlesex.
Elgin, Oxford, Lambton and part of
Huron county will be pf the same
length as last year. It will be for four
days from November 2 to 5, but the
archery season will run from October
15 to November 1 and again from
November 6 to December 31.
Daryl Smith, information officer at
the Chatham office of the ministry of
natural resources says that's an in-
crease of almost three weeks from a
year ago.
Smith added, "Bow hunters take a
break during the shotgun season
because the two kinds of hunters don't
work well together. There's more
danger."
Perth county and the west half of
Kent county do not have a shotgun
season for deer hunting. Bow hunters
in those areas will have the same ex-
tended season as in the other counties
from October 15 to December 31
without the four-day break.
The ministry has increased the

whether shotgun or archery, is
restricted to Ontario residents and is
classified as a controlled hunt, Smith
said. "That means that farmers or a
landowner with 50 acres or more
automatically get a tag for hunting in
the area where they own their land."
Once these licences have been
allocated, the remaining available
licences are chosen by computer lot-
tery from applications made in the in-
dividual hunting regions.
Smith recommends that hunters
contact a ministry office as soon as
possible to find out the details about
