Church service
Palm Sunday church service was in
charge of the minister Rev. Robert
Matheson. Psalm 31 was read respon-
sively, and Rev. Matheson told the
childrens story "What do the bran-
ches mean?" The children were given
palm crosses and they gave the peo-
ple in the audience one each.
The choir sang "Hosanna,
Hallelulia" accompanied by the
organist Miss Agnes Bray. The scrip-
ture lesson was read from Isaiah
50:4-9a, Phillippians 2:5-11, Matthew
21:1-11. The sermon was entitled
"Where does the road to Jerusalem
really take us?
The various passages of scripture
we have heard from actually remind
us of Jesus' entry, into Jerusalem: in-
deed his entry into the world: is a'type
of 'Cinderella Story'.
The three active participant -types
in the Cinderella Story 1 will refer to
are: Prince Charming, Cinderella,
and the three -wicked step -sisters.
Isaiah reminds us he thought of the
remnant of Israel doing bondage in
Babylon as a 'Cinderella' - God's peo-
ple in need of liberation and -indeed
deserving liberation.
Paul reminds us as to whom would
take the part. of the wicked step-
sisters: the same people Isaiah was
speaking of! We do not need to have
it explained who plays the role of
"Prince Charming"!
Where does the Road to Jerusalem
lead us? Whether we deserve the
liberation Jesus offers we still receive
it! Whether we are without sin or not
Jesus still tells us we are forgiven!
The Road to Jerusalem leads us to the
love of God - giving us a very real
taste of the Kingdom which is yet to
come in this world!
