Resort seniors host zone rally
About 20 Grand Bend Golden Agers
attended the Zone eight spring rally
of the United Senior Citizens of On-
tario, held at the Dashwood Com:
munity Centre last week: The
Dashwood unit -Good Companions"
provided the community centre and
the .Grand Bend seniors provided a.
tasty lunch to more than 150 who atr
tended. President Elmer Hayter of
Varna and secretary Keith Itowntifee
of the Clinton area presided . the
meetings.

Vicar Larry Stojkovic,. of •the
Dashwood Lutheran church was.
guest speaker. Stephen Reeve Tom
Tomes.welcomed all the seniors to the
township. Reports from the 16 clubs
in Zonn s were heard in the morning.
Resolutions from the Guelph con-
ference were presented and Mr. John
Patterson. Chairman of the Host
Committee for the Tri -County Senior
games. spoke about plans for the
senior games.
The guest speaker for the afternoon
was Alex Mansfield. first vice-
president of U.S.('.0.. introduced by
Mrs. Min Lue RumbaII of Clinton the
first vice-president of Zone 8. Thank
your and presentations were made by
Pat Skinner of Exeter. Music at noon
was provided by Willis Desjardine,
his violin accompanist and Mrs. Stan
Ilorner on piano.

owned by Mr. and Mrs. Barry Strong:

UCW meeting •
Thirteen ladies were present for the
April meeting of the United Church
Women Thursday, at the Grand Bend
United Church basement. Eleanor
Durie was in charge of devotions.
They sang two Easter hymns, and the
Easter story was read. For medita
lion: Eleanor shared some of the
events at Brook Kedron. the Mount of
Olives and Calvary, closing with
prayer.
Norma Carey, convener for Chris-
tian Development, presented a pro-
gram on "Women in the Church". In
the ()Id Testament days, we see how
God used Hannah, Miriam, Ruth and
Esther. In the New Testament, God
raised up women to do Ills work, and
they played a very important role in
the early church.
Norma shared the stories of two
modern women, who are very busy
preparing for the 25th anniversary of
the United Church Women. They also
are helping to conduct workshops to
help our rural ministers and lay peo-
ple. Norma closed with a poem.
The ladies made plans to attend the
Easter Ecumencial on April 15 at the

Church of God, as w•elfas the United
Women's Presbyterial Event in
Kirkton on April 29. Loreen Gill clos-
ed the' meeting, followed by a
delicious lunch and social time.
• Bible class
Nita Sinclair opened the Bible study
with prayer as 10 ladies attended
Tuesday morning at Sauble Court.
Vera Brown was discussion leader, on
"David and his Psalms", continuing
the chapter "Are. My Battles God's
Battles?" They read 1 Samuel 18 and
19 considering Saul's growing dislike
of David and the ways God.used to
help him through those difficult
times. We can have God's help in our
own difficulties. if ,we ask God -for it
and are obedient to His commands.
Doris Peebles then began chapter
:1, "What Makes a Good Friend?" bas-
ed on 1 Samuel 20, which they read
together. This passage tells of the
deep friendship between David .and
Jonathon. son of King Saul, and the
barriers they had to face because of
Saul's jealousy and envy. They clos-
ed with a time for prayer.
