The family live in Forest and relatives in Grand Bend. were visiting Proposed by harbour group Yachters face lease i*reise The Grand Bend Harbour commit- tee held its monthly meeting on March 19 with all members present. A new lease with the GB Yacht Club was prepared and will be forwarded to the club for their consideration. Members Russ Lingard and Bruce Woodley declared a conflict of in- terest and Terry Crabe assumed the chair for this part of the meeting. After a previous meeting with Yacht club members, it was decided to raise the annual fee to $2,200.00 for dockage. In the past, the club has on- ly been paying $330.7& per year, about 25t per foot. The term will run for 12 years, with the fee raised to $2500.00 for the third year of the lease. The re- mainder of the lease will be payable in the amount of the previous year, plus the rate of inflation. The lessor will have the right to renew this lease for a further five years, with the rent to be negotiated at that time. It was moved by Harold Green and seconded by Cam Haist that the GB harbour committee ac- cept the new lease for a term of 12 years_ before negotiations instead of -17-years. "• Work on the south wharf will be completed to the tune of $13,000.00. It will cost that amount to raise the fuel dispensing island, place a four -inch thick 1 emforced-concrete-deck fron ting the building, and to pour a con- crete sidewalk along the westerly and southerly basin walls. They came from London, Goderich and around Grand Bend, to help celebrate her special day. The Grand Bend Minor Softball League will be holding registration on Saturday, April 4 -from 10 a.m to 2 p.m. at the Grand Bend Legion Hall. There are softball teams for boys and girls of all.ages, including a new Ban- tam girls team to form this year for girls age 15-16. Ten ladies turned out and their team name is going to be GB "Surf & `Turfs" Bible Study There were 12 ladies present for the Bible study and coffee hour Tuesday morning at the Sauble Court lounge. Doris Peebles opened with prayer. and Millie Desjardine led in a sing- song of hymns. Vera Brown led the Bible study."David and His Psalms". Chapter 2, "Are my Battles God's Battles?" They read I Samuel 17, which tells of David's fight with Goliath, and the jealousy of his brothers. A com- parison should be made of the in- cidents in the chapter and personal battles in which we are engaged, to try to decide if we are fighting our battles in God's name and by His methods. - has been completed, the village will invoice Small Craft Harbours for the $13,000:00, It was learned that by the end of 1990, all underground gasoline storage tanks will have to comply with standards. If not up to standards, these tanks will have to be removed from the ground. The village has two quotes already on the gas tanks. . It was decided that the hydro at the harbour building will be turned on from May 1 until October 1. In other business, the Warner lease is still under; -negotiation, some dockage payments were requested, and the group granted approval to Mike Zebregts, Zebro Development dockage in principle. The meeting adjourned at 9:30 p.m. with the next meeting scheduled for Tuesday, April 14 at 7:30 p.m. Eire call The Grand Bend and Area fire department was summoned to a fire last Sunday evening. It was located at the old Desjardine place on Gore Rd. behind J.T. Karry Ltd. Everything was kept under control. Panthers win zone The Parkhill Novice Panthers won the OMIIA zone playoffs, Saturday. The team beat Glencoe three straight in the best -of -five series. Scores were ,;-t. 6 2, and 2 0. Cood goaltending byfp Shane Maguire. The team travelled to Sarnia for an exhibition game after winning the zone. They beat Sarnia twp. 6-2, a real feat as they are an AA team and Parkhill is a novice C class. Good work, boys! Don't forget the GB soc- cer registration this Saturday, April 4 at the GB Legion, from 10 - 2. Legion News Let's all wish "good luck" to Rob Johnson;'a member of Grand Bend Legion No. 498, who will be represen- ting us in the provincial single darts competition, in April. in Windsor. Rob has won the zone and the district leagues so far. so we wish him well on to a provincial victory! There were 20 people out for the regular Tuesday night darts, with Don Wilton and Emma Couckyet. in first place, and Cy Couckyet and Marg Iledley in second. Bonnie Hum- phries won the 50/50 draw. There are only three more weeks of dart games left, finishing on April 14. On Friday, April 24; all the Tuesday night regulars are attending a special din- ner at the Sunset Restaurant, at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is to meet at The restaurant right after the Friday meat raffle, then return to the Legion after dinner, where the prizes will be awarded. Last Wednesday, five members of the Royal Canadian Legion No. 498 at- tended a Zone A-4 Convention, held in Sarnia. There were about 85 there, to elect Bob Lalonde as the new Zone Commander and Fred Morley as the new Deputy Zone Commander, to begin their posts in June. Everyone had a very enjoyable time, hosted by the Sarnia Royal Canadian Legion No. 62. Winners of the Friday meat raffle were: Cathy Reeves, Shirley Page, Vern Fischer, ,Paul Johnson and George Gallant, Joan Howard won the door prize. In coming events, there will be a general meeting on Monday, April 6, at 8 p.m. in the Legion Hall. It's nomination night, so let's have a good turnout! May 2 marks the third an- nual Euchre tournament at the legion, open to all players. Everyone is to sign in by 11:30 a.m. to begin pla at noon. On Sunday evening, 45 people travelled by bus to Pioneer Park. Church of God, Kitchener, for the an- nual Christian Song Fest. Each church attending presented two special numbers: The Grand Bend. Anyone in the community who would like to contribute in memory of Rev. Wattam is welcome to do so, by drop- ping their gift off at the parsonage during the next two weeks. • They came from Toronto, Welland, Owen Sound, and all around Kit- chener, with the biggest group from Grand Bend. The congregation was saddened by the news this week of the death of Rev. Edwin Wattam, on Monday, March 23, in St. Catharines. He pastored the Grand Bend Church of God for over 23 years, and was great- ly loved; and warmly remembered by many. Many people in the Grand Bend community have been influent - ed by Rev. Wattam's Christian example. As a memorial to hirtt, the church is collecting an offering which will be sent to the "revolving loan fund," of the Churches of God in Ontario.
