Those two facts were brought out when the Huron County Municipal Officers' Association met in Exeter, Friday. Huron Warden Brian McBurney was s among those in attendance and at the noon luncheon introduced two visiting wardens, Jim Spence of Perth and Bill Skinner of Middlesex. McBurney said the three had com- pared notes and he found that, despite being the host warden, he had actual- ly had to travel the farthest to get to the meeting. Spence is from Mitchell, Skinner from Caradoc Township and McBurney is from Turnberry Township in north Huron. The Huron Warden also advised his audience that the county will be hosting a meeting of the Association of Counties and Regions of Ontario. .However, because of the lack of ac- commodation in Huron, the event will be held in London. "We're taking the county to the delegates," he explained, adding that he hoped the event would put Huron in the spotlight. At an election of officers held at the conclusion of Friday's session, Hullett Reeve Tom Cunningham was elected president of the Association, suc- ceeding Tuckersmith Reeve Bob Bell in that capacity. Other executive officers are: first vice-president, Nancy Michie, clerk - treasurer of Morris Township; second vice-president, Winona Thompson, clerk -treasurer of East Wawanosh; one-year director, William Vanstone, deputy -reeve of Colborne; two-year, Albert Wasson, reeve of Blyth; three- year, James Crocker, clerk -treasurer of Seaforth. Huron administrator Bill Hanly is secretary -treasurer. An invitation for the group for the • Lambton has kids' offerings Library programs for young children begin again after March break in many Lambton County Library branches. Pre-school Story Time, Tales for Tots, and Wynken, Blynken & Nod are (he programs be- ing offered this spring. For children aged 3-5 there is Pre- school Story Time and songs, rhymes, stories, crafts, and activities. Tales for Tots is a half hour program for parents or caregivers and tots birth - 2 years of age. There is no craft ses- sion in the Tales for Tots program but there are many puppets, songs, stories and felt board activities to keep the children entertained. The library in Grand Bend will be starting a new program called Wynken, Blynken & Nod. this pro- gram is being created to give working parents the opportunity to bring their tots to a library program. Children aged 1-3 will go to the library dress- ed in their pj's to hear bedtime stories, sing lullabies, enjoy a snack and of course hug their puppet friend "SALLY" goodnight! Library staff shy there are 10 good reasons why parents should take their children to one of these programs: 1) Because an introduction to books is one of the most precious gifts a parent can give a child. 2) )-- e -• '-ild learns more dur- ing the ti , ears of life than any other time ....a library programs can offer a child stimulation for learning during these years. 3) Because library programs foster a love of learning without pressuring the child which creates a favourable attitude towards books and learning in the child. 4) Because a child will soon recognize the library as an important source of pleasure and information. 5) Because the songs, rhymes, and books used in the programs creates a world of worlds for the child which fills the child with the sound and structure of language. - 6) Because a child will sense that writing is "talk written down" long before he/she begins to write, an im- portant reading readiness skill. 7) Because the games and crafts us- ed in the programs help develope eye and hand co-ordination which is essential for forming letters later on. 8) Because these programs provide an opportunity for a parent and/or a child to participate in a group and to meet other parents and children with the same interests. 9) Because a parent gets new ideas on entertaining his/her child at home, on long trips, or at the doctors office. 10) Because a child enjoys this - special time with his/her parent which helps build a good parent-child relationship. The following library branches will be offering one or more programs for young children this spring: Alvinston, Arkona, Brights Grove, Camlachie, Corunna„ Florence, Forest, Grand Bend, Lambton Mall, Petrolia, Port Lambton, Thedford, Watford, Wilkesport, and Wyoming. Participating in a library program is educational and lots of fun too so call the branch nearest you and register your child today! 1988 annual was extended by Clerk Jack McLaughlin on behalf of Tuckersmith Township. 25th Wedding Anniversary Open Reception April 11 9:00 p.m. - 1:00 a.m for Hans and Dianne Gerstenkorn love and best wishes from Steven, Linda, Chris and'Natasha Best Wishes only For information call 262-2117 Golden Wedding Anniversary Laurene and Emerson Wein were married April 10, 1937.
