Dashwood hosts
prayer day event
Nearly 80 women, of all faiths, Roberta Walker performed two
solos, "The Wedding Banquet" and
"Sing for Joy". Ladies- from the
Church of .God, Grand Bend United,
Anglican and Roman Catholic joined
the Dashwood United women in the
celebration of the power of prayer.
Over $100 was collected to send in sup-
port of the Canadian ecumenical pro-
jects abroad.
The ladies adjourned to the church
basement, to enjoy a special anniver-
sary cake and ice cream and time for
fellowshi • before ret'irnin home.
gathered Friday afternoon at the
Dashwood United Church to celebrate
the World Day of Prayer. Maida
Gaiser, of the United Church Women
was chairperson of the event, and
gave the call to prayer. Idella Gable
provided music on the organ for all
the hymns and solos.
The theme for this year's service
was twofold, to celebrate 100 years for
the World Day of Prayer, by giving its
history in both Canada and the U.S.,
then spreading internationally to
unite 170 countries in prayer. Ladies
from the Church of God represented
the two original organizers Mary
Ellen James of the U.S. and Bessie
McMurchy of Canada and Millie Des-
jardine performed a solo.
The second part of the service
retold the parable of the Great Feast,
to which those who were invited did
not come. Instead, the poor and the
sick,the travellers and strangers,
were brought in to enjoy the banquet.
From this, we all realize that
everyone, including ourselves, is in-
vited to the kingdom of Gbd and we
must not make excuses about why we
can't come or we may be left outside
forever.
Petitions for prayer were heard in
the voices of Asia, Africa, the Carib-
bean, Europe, Latin America, the
Middle East, North America, the
-Pacific-and-the-Aboriginal-people of -,-
all lands. These voices expressed
their concerns, needs, and fears for
their futures, needing the prayers of
all. Everyone was encouraged to
return home strengthened in faith, re-
joicing in spirit. and sharing with our
neighbours, especially those in such
dire need.
