Two courses planned
Being able to hire and keep good
employees is very important to
farmers if they want to maintain a
profitable operation. A wealth of in-
formation on managing employees is
available in the ..Personnel Manage-
ment on the Farm" binder which can

Labour Pool offices across the Pro-
vince. An index and a list of resources
has been prepared to make the binder
easier to use.
"Working Together- Better" is a
course based on that binder designed
to familiarize the farm employer with
labour requirements, selection and
employment, farm safety and health,
employment standards and record
keeping. interpersonal communica-
tions and human relations, motiva-
tion. Incentives. performance ap-
praisals. terminations and
interviews.

The course will be offered on Tues-
day. March 24 at the Clinton OMAF

In the last year or more two trail
order firms. both operating out of
Quebec, have been running contests
and lotteries in conjunction with their
mail-order businesses.
1Ve are led to believe we have Won
.1 new car. $25.(88).90. $19,800.08 or a
number of other prizes when in ac-
tuality what we receive for the che-
que we sent (to cover eosts) and our
order is a bubble -gum machine 'dia-
mond ring'. One company describes
it as a "dazzling solitaire ring" or in
the case of the other operation "a dia-
mond ring". a "brut diamond" other
wise known as an industrial diamond
which is usually ground up to make__
�andpapeN. Neither ring has any in-
rinsic value.
Roth firms have been charged by
Consumer and Corporate Affairs
Canada for false and misleading
advertising under the ('otnbines In-
vestigation Act. Complaints to either
ul these companies by the consumers
are usually ignored.
If is my understanding that 'class
action' suits are now permitted in the
Quebec courts and it is my intention
ti initiate said suit in the hope that the
consumers across Canada will be
reunbursed for any monetary losses
they have suffered because of these
npe ratlorls-

'wonderful prize • nd instead receiv-
ed a worthless piece of jewellery.

A Sheep Production Symposium
will be held on March 20 and 21 at the
