Cubs camp in Lucan
Seventeen boys from the Zurich cub
pack along with 27 cubs from Lucan
spent from Friday to Sunday camp-
ingin Lucan at the Scouts Hall. They
slept indoors but did several outdoor
activities such as hikes and walks on
the nature trails, played different
sport games, and passed tests for
badges.
Accompanying the boys were Akela
Hubert Thiel and leaders, Catherine
Beierling, Bev Desch and Cecil
Regier along -with others from Lucan.
This Saturday, February 28 is the
annual Cub Car Rally that will be held'
at S.H.D.H.S. in Exeter beginning at
11:00 a.m-and all the -cub packs nl
HuronHuron County District will compete in
this big event.
St. Boniface ('WI.
The February meeting was held at
the Blue Water Rest home on
February 3 in the form of a birthday
party for the residents. A skit was en-
joyed pertaining to the World Day of
Prayer put on by Julie Becker and
Mary -Lou Turkheim. The World Day
of Prayer will be held on March 6 at
St. Boniface Church.
There were 31 members and four
guests present for the meeting. A nice
report was given by Helen Creces nn
the recent regional deanery meeting
her and Cecilia Farwell attended_
The National CWL Convention will
take place in London, Ont. this year
at the holiday Inn from August 14-21.
St. Boniface -parish -will be having a-
Day of Recollection on Tuesday,
March 17 r St. Patrick's Day ► from
10:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. Bring along a
brown bag lunch and refreshments_
will_ he served. -
Father Goyeau from Our Lady of
Mt. Carmel Parish will be our guest
speaker.
The play "The Three Bright Girls"
will be put on in the school gym on
Sunday, March 29. Plan to attend and
you'll be in for a few laughs.
The next meeting will be held on
March 24. A delicious valentine lynch
of decorated cupcakes were enjoyed
by all.
Lots of fun was had by all of us who
attended the Sl. Boniface Parish
P.T.A. skating party on Sunday at the
arena. Even Fr. Mooney had his
skates on and sure kept up to
everyone on the ice I even passed a
lot.
Both the children and their parents -
enjoyed the afternoon. Some also
played a few games of cards in the
audi4orium and delicious hot
chocolate was served.
Personals
Mr. and Mrs. Mozart Gelinas
Zurich, and Mr. and Mrs. Pat Tiede,
London motored to Florida and en-
joyed spending two weeks at Pine
Island, plus a week for travelling and
returned home safe and sound last
Friday. Marie is now babysitting her
two grandchildren in London for the
next couple of weeks while parents,
Marc and Cindy Gelinas are away on
a Caribbean cruise along with some
-friends.
Congratulations to• Bruce and
Eleanor Steeper of Parkhill who
recently -celebrated their 50th wed-
-ding anniversary on February 17
which was also Bruce's birthday. A
family dinner Was held in their honor
at Robindales in Exeter. Attending

Schilbe, David and Irene Schilbe of
Zurich, Jannette Lynch from Tillson-
burg and Bruce and Linda Huntley
and son Jarrad of London.
Shelly Hay spent a few days in St.
Joseph's Hospital.
Herb Turkheim is coming along
nicely after his heart by-pass opera-
tion last week and is in University
Hospital.
Ambrose Denomme of Kitchener is
spending a few days this week with
his mother, Mrs. Juliette Denomme.
Andrew- and Alida Rau returned
hom recently after a nice six-week
vacation in Florida with her niece,
Lou and Richard Matta. at Port
Charlotte, Florida.
Arnold and Coby Vanden Boomen
and Case and -Annie -Van Raay return
ed home on Saturday after spending
two weeks motoring to Florida. They
went to several different places and
visited with the Vermunts.
The children of St. Boniface School
have been taking turns from different
grades going bowling at the local
alleys all week (which is fun for
them). On Friday morning a public
speaking contest will take place in the
gym at 9:00 a.m.

vention of the Ontario Association of
Agricultural Societies in Toronto
from last Tuesday, February 17 to 19
at the Royal York hotel were: presi-
dent. Len Hoffman and wife Irene;

Local skaters
win medals
Congratulations to all who won
medals at the Sweetheart Competi-
tion in Glencoe on Saturday,
February 14. Fifteen figure skating
club members competed and several
cdme back with awards.
The next big project on their agen-
da is the skating carnival which will
be held on Sunday, March 15 at 2:00
p.m. at the Zurich arena. This year's
._lheme...is_-Weather-on lee='- and •ttte
guest M.C. will be Jay Campbell from
C.F.P.L. T.V. London.
Tickets are 83.00 for adults, 12 and
under 81.50, and preschool chidlren
are free. Plan to attend this spec-
tacular event.
Bingo winners
The winners from'the last bingo on
February 19 were: mystery prize of
8500 to Francis Ayotte of Dashwood
and Flo MacCuspey of Goderich won
$750 jackpot.
The Lions club helped with the
bingo.
Dance
A good time was also had by all
those that went to the dance on Satur-
day night sponsored by the figure
skating club. Even though it wasn't a
full house, the music and food sure
were good.

Paper drive
The monthly paper drive. is on
Thursday, February 26. Have bundles
out at the road by 6:30 p.m.
Family portraits
The Bank of Montreal is having a
professional photographer come to
the Bank on Thursday, March 121r'om
5-9 p.m. to take family portraits. The
offer is open to everyone, but you
must. pick up a voucher at the Bank
and phone for an appointment.

Good year for Hay Mutual
Howard Datars president of the
board of directors of Hay Township
Farmers Mutual Fire Insurance Co.,
reported on a very successful year to
the 112th annual meeting. With the
balance sheets as of December 31,
1986, showing a net income of
$1,022,738, Datars announced a five
percent discount on rates on renewal
business effective April 1.
Smokedetectors and fire ex-
tinguishers wig continue to be sold at
cost, and extinguishers will be
recharged free for policy holders.
Manager John Consitt reported that
the company suffered no major loss
in 1986, something which had never
happened before. He •predicted that
reinsurance costs will increase in
1987.
The company has contracted to
purchase computer equipment at a
cost of $115,000, which will assist in
the change to one-year policies effec-,

were Sunday dinner guests with her
parents, Louis and Josie Denomme.
Anyone who likes to quilt is more
than welcome to join the ladies of the
Womens Institute at the quilting bee
on Monday, March 2 afternoon and
--evening at the Township hall AT
potluck supper will be served.
A few lucky winners from the
Vegas tickets at the bowling alley
recently were: Dena Inthout for $150
and Donna Webster won $100. The
Valentine heart -shaped box of
chocolates was won by Lisa Murray.
Money being collected for the Big
Brothers and Bib Sisters "Bowl for
Millions' is to be handed in to Tony
by March 16-22.
George and Elaine Keller spent the
weekend in Toronto and attended a
convention at the Prince Hotel.
The month of March is set aside for
Diabetes and canvassers will be
around to call on you for a donation.
Captain once again is Eleanor Riley.

bridal show on March 2 in Exeter

Happy Birthday wishes to Clarence
Geoffrey -on -February 28, Eric Ihrig,
two years oldon February 27 and Lee
Regier on February 18. And to Marc
Crane on February 23. He celebrated
on Sunday with having some school
friends over for supper after the
skating party. Also on the 23rd was
Kevin Regier and Eric Groot.
Ross Johnston is now home from
the hospital.
Lottie Gascho is home recuperating
from a recent shoulder operation.
Charlie Rau is a patient in Victoria
Hospital in London.
Ina Neeb spent a few days in Exeter
Hospital las week.

Surprise! Surprise! What did
Zurich and area do to wake up to six
inches of new snow? Even the birds
in the nearby bushes were protesting.
The movies shown on Monday even-
ing were "Springtime in Holland" and
"The Mounties". Residents remark-
ed that they were probably some of
the best and most interesting that we
have been able to get.
The February birthday party was
held on Tuesday evening with St.
Boniface church ladies hosting the
party. Everyone joined in singing a
number -of- old-time songs accoriT-
panied on the piano by Shelley
Hoffman.
A skit on World Day of Prayer was
presented by Julie Becker and Mary -
Lou Turkheim. Shelley Hoffman then
played some piano solos. Residents
having birthdays during the month of
February were presented with gifts.
Residents celebrating birthdays were
Mrs. Margaret Adams. Mr. Joe
Ferguson, Miss Ethel Hess, Mr. Doc
Horn, Mrs. May Rowcliffe, Mrs.
Hilda Stebbins, Mr. Fred Teeter Mrs.
Hiraa Turnbull and Mrs. Ruth
Warner. Following the program,
refreshments were served.
We are pleased that Mrs. Margaret
Adams was able to return from South
Huron Hospital, Exeter.
The sympathy of residents and staff
is extended to the family of the late
Mrs. Ada McDonald.
Bingo was played on Friday even-
ing, followed by refreshments.
The Sunday evening chapel service
was conducted by Rev. Clayton
Kuepfer of the Zurich Mennonite
church.
