At Revival Centre
Good attendance at youth weekend
Friday evening 115 young people
and 15 counsellors gathered in Lucan
Revival Centre to attend the Youth
Seminar under the teaching of
Richard and Angela Richardson, of
London. Young people came from
Goderich, Zurich, Hensall, Exeter,
Parkhill, Ailsa Craig, Lucan, and sur-
rounding areas.
The Richardson's started showing
a slide depicting a person is made up
01 body, soul, and spirit. They then
discussed some major physical
changes in youth, and how these af-
fect them. This starts with the growth
spurt in the puberty that bring in
many' physical changes. This also
brings in the danger of sexually
transmitted diseases. A slide showed
the results add dangers of.these.
Young people need to understand
the emotional 'development in
themselves. A common emotion ex-
perienced in adolescence is love.
There are three types of love. First is
a friendship type of love.
Many relationships begin with this
type of love. Then often the passion
type of love that hungers for the other
person to stimulate and satisfy sex-
ual desires. This kind of love can lead
to sin and lust, giving way to disgust.
Genuine love docs not take but gives
to others within the will of God.

youth is depression. This may express
itself in some of the following sins or
behaviour: Rebellion, sexual activi-
ty, drugs or alcohol consumption,
showing little interest in things you
used to enjoy, changes in eating or
sleeping habits, excessive self
criticism, risk taking behaviour,
school problems, suicide talk and
thoughts, physical symptoms.
The session on What the World Says
about these scriptural .standards
covered several aspects. The Biblical
answer to fornication is in 1 Corin-
thians 6:9-18. The Bible is explicit on
the evils of homosexuality in
Leviticus 18:22, and Leviticus 20:13.
The world says a woman has the right
to choose. The Biblesaysabortion is
murder, as it says "Thou Shalt Not
Kill".
Society says drinking and drugs is
OK in moderation. The Bible tells us
in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 that our
bodies are the temple of the Holy
Spirit, and we are not our own, then
to honor God with our body.
Many young people rebel about
parents; discipline, while the Bible
says in Ephesians 6:2-3 we are to
honor our parents. Many young peo-
ple flaunt authority and the law, while
the Bible says in Romans 13:1-7,
everyone must submit to governing
authorities.
Concerning work many consider it

is to get as much many for the least
work.
Young people feel they can dress as
they please, to attract the opposite
sex, while the Bible says in 1 Peter
3:3-4 that one's beauty should not
come from outward adornment, but
from a gentle and quiet spirit.
Thirty-five young people made
commitments to serve the Lord after
the evening sessions.
Liberal event
Close to 300 persons attended a din-
ner at the Lucan Community Centre
to honour Huron -Middlesex MPP
J1t k -Riddell for his services t
residents of Middlesex.
Riddell presented gifts to' the
municipal chairpersons in Middlesex
and in turn Jack Johnston and Ber-
nard Benn presented a painting to the
Minister. of Agriculture.
In a roast of Riddell, Minister of
Education Sean Conway said, "Jack
had a strong voice questioning as an
opposition member and now has a
strong voice in answering questions.
If we could harvest his voice, we
would never have an energy
shortage".
Don Boogerman is president of the
new Middlesex Liberal Association.
Others at the head table were Mid-
dlesex MPP Doug Reycraft, Joe.
Hogan, president of the Huron riding
association and Lucan reeve Norm

Skit features YCW meeting
Wednesday evening the Friendship
Unit of Lucan United Church met,
with 10 members present. The
meeting was opened by Ruth Butler,
Susan Rees and Anne Holden doing a
skit. It depicted contemporary
sisters, Molly and Marty, who felt she
was weighed down with too many
duties to attend the 100th World Day
of Prayer. After allowing herself to be
persuaded. she found that her inner
being was awakened and she was full
of joy and praise that women around
the world were praying together us-
ing the same service.
Ruth followed with a worship ser-
vice "Take Time". She said as God
does not hurry but takes time for
everything, we must take time for
Him. Time is the stuff life is made of
- we must learn to use it wisely. She
then read a poem 'When I Have
Time'.. Anne led a Bible Study discus-
sion on various readings of scripture.
Beth Miller chaired the business
portion of the meeting. The "Thankful
Jars" donations are to be given to
Willie Yule for the Compassion Child
by February 22 or as soon as possible.
Ruth, Anne and Beth reported on en-
joyable sessions a Presbyterial and
Beth read the resolutions from there.
Anne explained how mugs, coasters
etc. with the 25th anniversary of the
UCW logo were for sale and could
perhaps be used as a fund raiser. It
was felt that because the church is
selling memorabilia for the 125th an-
niversary, we would not use the UCW
25th.
The group has been asked to cater
to the September wedding of Sheila
Jones. Donna Van Arenthals gave a
briefing on the spring bulbs from
Holland Glory. It will be decided next
meeting if we will sell these.
A LIBERAL WELCOME - Huron Liberal president Joe Hogan
welcomes Minister of Education Sean Conway to Lucan Saturday
night. Looking on are Agriculture Minister Jack Riddell and Middlesex
MPP Doug Reycraft. T -A photo
Scouts, Guides to church
• The last Sunday of February is the
time we remember Lord Baden
Powell and his work among the young
people.
Beavers, Cubs, Brownies, Guides,
- Scouts, Venturers and Pathfinders
with their leade%s were out to Lucan
United Church dressed in their
separate uniforms.
During the children's time some of
these, shared the promises and the
laws that make up the back hone of
these organizations.
The children's story narrated and
dare I say "performed" by Rev. Dar-
rell Shaule was a lesson involving a
mouse trap. How devious and entic-
ing a mouse trap can be, loaded with
cheese. How easily a child can be fool-
ed by the appearance of some seem •
-
ingly harmless adventure only to
have it all end tragically.
Rev. Shaule warned the children of
these "traps", explaining how Jesus.
Himself was tempted in the
wilderness by Satan and was able
with God's help to refuse. A prayer for
strength ended the lesson.
The sermon taken front Matthew
5:14-16. tied together the other
scripture passage. John 9:1-11 which
speaks of the man who was blind from
birth, thru no fault of his own or that
of his parents but to display once
again the Power of God. Ile opened
his eyes and he could see, Rev.
Shaule's message "Open our eyes
Lord" to see Jesus the Light of the
World.
• If we are really following Him, if we
truly shine in thedarktiess;then other
people will follow along and be drawn
to our Jesus. the bearer of that Light
- the source of all power for light.
All communications have to be
open, prayer and bible study, in order
to receive -a constant and unbroken
supply of this power. If our light has
grown dim. He promises to transform
and reinsulate us with - renewed
resources.
The scripture passage from Act.
26:1-20 read by Mrs. Sharon Mac-
Donald talks to us of Paul, who work-
ed at cruelly toward God's people and
persecution in every form, became
himself, after he met that.Light, as
zealous for Christ as he had been
against him.
