Bob_ Bell, the clerk of session, chaired the . meeting. -Marlene Bell . was nominated to serve as secretary for the meeting. Reports from the church choir, Arnold Circle, Presbyterian Church Women. Church treasurer, trustees and Crombenex were read and approved. - . . Rev. J. William Milne. from Knox church, Mitchell, who is serving as iterim moderator for this pastdl1l charge, explained the possibilities of future ministerials for -Carmel church. • Those named to serve as board of managers were Ken Pollock. Helen Thiel, Russel Faber. Ann Mousseau -and-Jim__I.ove. The two represen- tatives from Hensall to Cromhenex are Helen Thiel and John Baker. On Wednesday February 4th the Energetic Eight gathered at the home of Phyllis and Harold Parsons for a social evening and a game of euchre. Winners were: ladies high - Doris Ilamilton, ladies low - Frances Kinsman. mens high - Bev Hamilton and mens low - Al Hoggarth. Unit 111 Mary Brintnell opened the February meeting -of Unit IFI U.C.W. with a poem "Daily Valentines". The worship was taken by Fredo Boa on "Trust". Members answered the roll call by reading verses from Psalm 701. A thank -you card was read from Vera Ross. A report of the Presbytery was given. Dorothy Brintnell gave the study on "Common Bonds" with World Coun- cil of Indigenous Peoples. Beatrice Munn read poems "Prescription for a laugh" and "We have a secret". Vera and Alf Ross were con- gratulated on their 52nd wedding _ anniversary. The mee-ting`Was-closed---with prayer. Hostesses were Marg ('ole and Ardyth Glenn. • - Shufflehoard On Thursday. Olive Heal has returned home after a few weeks spent in hospital. Welcome home. Mrs. Viola Taylor of Seaforth and. Hazel Matheson, Clinton. visited with Pearl'McKnight and Ida Dicker( on Saturday. Unit IV The February meeting of Unit IV, U.C.W. was opened by chairman Nan Britton. In devotion Sadie Hoy read from Esther. chapter 4. This dealt with the world as a spiritual dwelling. Eleven members and one guest answered the roll call and 32 visits were reported. Two birthday cards and two get well cards were sent. The date* for the annual beef barbecue will be April 8. Nan Britton gave a report on the Presbyterial. The theme was "Call- ed to Respond". Nan Britton used "The Vital Role of Aboriginal Women in Australia" for the topic of the study. The women rthe main bread winners. They so serve as community leaders and ssume the role as head of the fami- ly and the home. ' • Nan closed the meeting with prayer. Ilazel Luther and Audrey Christie served lunch. Carmel P.C.W. On February 2. the P.C.W. met at the home of Elizabeth Faber. Marg Iloggarth read an appropriate poem entitled "February". Because February is best remembered for Va4entine's Day, 13 members answered the roll call' by naming something red. Elizabeth Faber conducted the wor- ship on "Kindness". The scripture lesson was taken from Ephesians :4:17-32. • Anyone wishing to save Knechtei's grocery -tapes : for Presbyterian Church may give them to Winnie Skea: We will be taking treats to Queensway for Valentine's Day. . The March meeting will be held at Florence Slade's. There will be a demonstration of cake decorating. The meeting was closed with a reading "God's Love".. • Skating party Hensall United Church held their Congregational Skating Party on February 1. 1987. Everyone enjoyed skating from 4:30 to 5:30 at the arena followed by a pot -luck supper back at the church. Mr. George Cowan ask- ed the blessing. - Following a. delicious meal which was quickly devoured by a large and. hungry-crowd,-prizes_were given -for: - Most members of one family: on skates won by Glen Hayter family (five) and the David Brock family (five) ; oldest person on skates, Mrs. Doris Cowan; - youngest person on skates, Sonya Deeves; - person with closest birthday, Mark Bell; - -lucky -seat, Tim Brock. Music Mrs. Kim Genttner of Hensall delighted an audience of grade 1-3 and kindergarten students on Thursday. The children loved her up -beat rendi- tion of folk and gospel tunes and took every opportunity to sing along. Beavers & Cubs activities The tobogganing party for the Beavers, Cubs and family was cancelled on Sunday but will be rescheduled. The Beavers will be taking treats and a giant valentine to Queensway tomorrow night. The Messengers visited Queensway yesterday afternoon with valentine treats. Figure skaters Hensall Figure Skating club held a est -day last Tuesday. Congratula- tions to all -skaters who have -worked so hard. -1 llensall minor hockey The 1986-87 season is now more than half over. This year 71 children are participating and although not always victors, our teams continue to provide excitement in a sportsmanlike man- ner and deserve our stipport and at- ...tendance..aLgames.--.----------- - - The annual Rec League tourna- ment was held in January and raised about $3000. to help cover the increas- ed cost of ice rentals. In conjunction with the annual pot- luck supper an April 5, photographs will be presented to each participant. The pictures will be taken this Satur- day, February 14 at the arena. Kids. don't forget to wearallyourgear for - your picture. The annual Minor Hockey -dance will be held Saturday. March 7 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the community cen- tre. There will be a cash bar and music by "Mozart's Melody Makers". Tickets are $10 per couple and are available from migor hockey parents. On the third Thursday of each month. a parents' meeting is held at the arena. Al these meetings all ac- tivities are discussed. Your participa- tion is needed and required. To share the responsibility is only fair! Playoffs are fast approaching. Come to the arena and cheer on your local teams. You won't be disappointed. The Hensall Tyke hockey team trounced Bayfield on Saturday by a score of 14-0. Graham Keys scored six goals. Brock Weiss three and Chris Jones two. Singles were scored by Dennis Noakes, Jeff Bothwell and Ryan Munn. The Novice team won' the first of their three games at a tournament in Howick on Saturday. The coaches wisely made a decision not to travel the roads during Sunday's storm so the Sunday games were not played. Scoring goals against Wallace on Saturday were Blair Moir with two,\ Dan Taylor with 2 and singles by Brad. Hartman and Chris Taylor. This was a slight increase from the previous year's $12,546. In addition. officials and appointees were reimbursed to cover itemized expenses for registration, accom- modation and .mileage while atten- ding authorized conferences and seminars. This totalled $3,469, up from 1985 total of $2,989. In addition to his 1986 honorarium Wintario asks for draw at arena Wintario would like to hold their draw in the Hensall Community Cen- tre on May 7. The Hensall Parks Board commit- tee will apply for a ministry of tourism and recreation grant to assist' in the purchase of break -away nets for ice sports at the arena. - Baileys wereasked to submit a quote on a high efficiency pulse furnace. The rental fee for the 1987 -Hensel' Fair will remain at $550 for the weekend of June 12 to 14. Application for a company wishing to inset) a coin-operated skate sharpener at the arena was approv- ed. The arena -will receive 10 percent of the revenue. March• will be Senior Citizens Month at the Community Centre. Nursery- School sponsors information night for preschoolers' parents The Hensall & District Co-operative Nursery School is sponsoring an even- ing for parents of pre-schoolers. On Tuesday, February 24, at 8 p.m. in the Hensall Public -School, David Kemp, the principal of H.P.S. will discuss the changes you may ex- perience when your child enters kindergarten. There will also be a speaker from the -Huron Centre for Youth discuss- ing the psychological and emotional changes that parents can expect from their child and how to cope. There will be plenty of time afterwards to ask questions. It promises to be a very interesting and informative evening. Things have been moving along just fine at Queensway. and now we would like to share our Week with you. - For our Tuesday church -service. we had the pleasure of welcoming for the first tirne to Queensway Reverend Duke Vipperman. We look forward to Rev. Vipperman's future visits with us very much. Thursday morning once again brought us to the -exciting time of ex- cerises. We had two terrific sessions, and had an enjoyable visit at the same time. In the afternoon we had our Card and Games Party which -we have been looking forward to for_several 'weeks. We would like to "send out many thank-yous to all who came in from the senior apartments to par- ticipate in our afternoon of fun. We will be having another games party- . in the near future. so please keep your eyes open for the future date! Finally. even though on Sunday we had a super storm, we still had the in- credible pleasure of welcoming the Hensall United Church Sunday School children who put on a special service for us at Queensway. A lot of hard. honest work went into their hour pro- duction. Kids, you all did a suer job. -Thanks so much for, sharing your talents with us, and we look forward to.seeing you again real soon!
