Perhaps we became a little too
complacent with the Florida -like
weather that we enjoyed during most
of the winter, and suddenly
everything came to a standstill when
the storm blew and hydro failed.
Luckily, the rest home and adjoining
apartments have the support of a
generator for heating purposes and
partial lighting and the kitchen is
equipped with propane stoves.
ifowever, Maplewoods was not so for-
tunate,
as were many other apart-
ment dwellings and private homes
which did not respond to the little
black buttons we so depend upon.
The movies shown on Monday even-
ing were "Puppy's Amazing Rescue"'
and "Swiss Family Robinson",
followed by refreshment. Again we
say thank -you to Lor a Ayotte for
taking c e of the fi transportation
to and Goderich Huron
County Library.
On Tuesday evening, the Ladies
Auxiliary of the home celebrated the
20th anniversary of their inception.
Mr. Bob Heywood and Mr.- Paul
Klemke of Exeter provided music
during the evening. Miss Verda
Baechler and Marlene . Gingerich
presented a thought-provoking and
comical skit reminiscing on the years
spent as Auxiliary members. Several
numbers were sung by the quartette
of Mary Lou Erb, Ina Neeb, Mary
Gingerich and Margaret Gingerich
accompanied on the piano by Grace
Martin.
.Mrs. Meda O'Brien spoke on how
the Auxiliary came into being and on
some of the uphill problems en-
countered in organizing and trying to
raise funds for the_empty coffers dur-
ing the period from 1967 to 1977.
Mrs. Cecilia Farwell spoke on the
organization and the growth and all
the accomplishments of the Auxiliary
over the years to the present time.
Following the program,
refreshments were served to the
residents and guests which included
a beautifully decorated anniversary
cake made by Miss MaryLou Erb. •
