Precision skaters win gold medals, ready for Sunday show
Congratulations go out to all involved in the winning of a gold
medal Saturday in Woodstock by the Exeter junior precision
skating team.
The team known as the Exeter Entertainers are coached by
Susan Rodowa. The manager is Janice Brock. -
In winning the top award, the Entertainers defeated skaters from
London, Scarboro; St. Thomas, Thamesford, Thornhill and the
Tricenturena skating club.
These gold medalists will be performing at an ice show spon-
sored by the Exeter precision skating club this coming Sunday,
January 25 at 2 p.m. at the South Huron Rec Centre.
The Exeter novice precision team which finished in the finals
in Woodstock Saturday will be in action along with teams from
Forest and Clinton:
Solo skating will be provided by skaters from Zurich, Lucan and.
Parkhill. Jennifer Cronin, Barbara Tieman and Joyann Heywood
of the Exeter figure skating club will also be displaying their
talents. --
This show is one of the precision club's fund raising projects and
those attending will be assured of seeing some interesting and ex-
citing maneuvers. Adult admission is $3.
Marie Tieman is president of The precision skating club, Ann
Baynham is secretary, Janice Brock is the treasurer along with
the duties of junior team manager and the novice skaters manager
is Janet Hern.
Two Canadian Juniors Coming
Exeter Lions Sportsmen's dinner chairman Brian Iilttlan has
confirmed the attendance of two members of the Canadian junior
hockey team which recently returned from the fiasco in Europe.

the North Bay Centennials and Brendon Shannahan of the London
Knights will be here for the 14th annual dinner scheduled for Tues-
day, February 3.
Despite earlier high hopes of having Brian McFarlane as the
master of ceremonies, the television hockey host will not be here.
These duties will be filled by Hoss Maxwell of St. Thomas who has
handled the job quite capably two other years.
Always a highlight is the appearance of the local Timmy. This
year this role will be filled by eight year-old Jeff Finkbeiner of RR2
Crediton. He is the son of Doug and Darlene Finkbeiner and is-suf-
fering from cerebral ataxia degeneration.
Away for the weekend
A distinct local flavour has been added to the upcoming dinner.
On the list of guest speakers is Al McLean. He is the son of Bill
and Peg McLean and holds a double black belt in jujitsu. Al cur-
rently travels worldwide as a world class judge.
Tickets for the dinner are going fast. 1f you don't have yours yet
call Brian Illman at the Bank of Nova Scotia, Lions president Jim
Beckett at the T -A or any club member. They are available for
$35 for adults and $20 for students and children.
We can again be assured of good food as the catering is being
handled by the area Women's Institutes in Huron South District.
Sailing Seminar
The Ontario Sailing Association has organized a day of sailing
lectures on Saturday January 24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Fanshawe
College in London. Some of the area's best boardsailors will be in-
structing how to windsurf.
There will be cruisers showing pictures and talking about their
experience in Georgian Bay, the Greek Islands and the Bahamas.
Boat ownership alternatives such as time-sharing and leasing will
also be explored.
The main area of education will come from many of the area's
and the nation's best racers and a couple of world calibre sailors
such. as Olympic team member Mark Treissman and long-time
Olympian Bill Abbott.
Anyone interested is asked to come along for the day and become
better educated in the sport of sailing. Registration begins at 9 a.m.
The fee is $1.50.
Mohawks win twice to move back into first place
The Exeter Mohawks have moved
back into first place in the Ontario
Hockey Association Central Senior 'B'
standings on the strength of two im-
pressive victories this week.
Friday on home ice, the Mohawks
trampled the injury ridden
Palmerston 81's by an 18-0 count and
Sunday also at the South Huron Rec
Centre downed the strong Elora
Rocks 7-3.
The two home wins upped the
Mohawks season point total to 35, one
more than the second place Tavistock
Royals.
On the upcoming weekend, the
Mohawks will be on the road for two
games. They will meet the 81's in
Palmerston Saturday night at 8 p.m..
and after an overnight stay in
Hanover will move over to Harriston
to meet the Blues Sunday afternoon
at 2 p.m.
A Real Scoring Spree
The scoring in Friday's romp over
Palmerston was well spread with 11
different players getting away at

Waxers gain pair of draws
The Exeter Waxers gained a pair of
ties in three novice division hockey
games this week.
In a Saturday doubleheader, the
Waxers played to a 4-4 exhibition tie
with Hensall and lost a Shamrock con-
test 3-1 to Lucan. Sunday it was a 2-2
draw with Seaforth.
A goal by Chris Lerikos on a pass
from Brent Urlin with only seven
seconds left in the third period gave
the Waxers their tie with llensall.
The first two Exeter scores came
from the stick of Marty DeBrttyn. The
first was on an unassisted effort and
the second on a pass from Ryan
Soldan.
The third marker for the Waxers
was shot by Adam Jean with the
assist going to Brent Urlin.
Dan Taylor led the Hensall scoring
attack with a three goal effort. Two
of his scores came on solo dashes and
the other on a pass from Ryan Kyle.
Blair Moir's unassisted goal com-
pleted the Hensall scoring.
Captain Chris Lerikos converted a
pass from Brent Urlin to account for
the Exeter scoring in the 3-1 loss to
Lucan.
Captain Chris Haskett was best for
Lucan with two goals and one assist.
The other goal was notched by Mike
Wragg and other assisters were
Dylan England and Marty Mitchell.

fort in goal for the Waxers and the two
goals, both on unassisted efforts
registered by Chri McDonald and
Chris Lerikos.
Tweens score
big victory
The Exeter Tweens scored a

Giselle Charrette, Bryden Gryseels.
Jayne Rowe and Becci Farquhar led
the Exeter scoring attack with two
successful shots each. Scoring in
single fashion were Jane Papple and
Julia Merner.
The top playmakers with. three
•assists apiece to their credit were
Julia Webster and Carrie Lovie.
Becky Morgan and Julia Merner each
helped on two scores and single
assists went to Liz Coates, Becci Far-
quhar, Chris Chappel and Carrie
least one successful shot.
Al Gates led the way with a four
goal output 4nd Randy Kraut, Bill
Glover andRck Hart each notched
two scores. S�oring in single fashion
were Brian Mercer, Norm Campbell,
John Kernick, Kris Bedard, Pete
Tuckey, Scott Eccles and Ron Elliott.
Cain Doig was the leading
playmaker with five assists to his
credit. Barry Baynham and John
Kernick were next in line with three
assists. Helping on two goals apiece
were Scott Eccles, Rick Hart, Bill
Glover and -Al Gates. Single assists
went to Bryan Baker, John
Jongeneel, Brian Mercer and Kris
Bedard.
This was Palmerston's second trip
to Exeter this season and they have
yet to score a goal. Rick Pikul
registered his third shutout of the
season.
A Second Period Start
After a scoreless first period in
which both teams had good scoring
opportunities, the Mohawks exploded
Better butter
'spiel Sunday
The third annual Gay Lea Better
Butter Bonspiel will be held at the Ex-
eter Curling Club on Sunday; January
25. The eventwill be for 15 mixed
teams competing for the Gay Lea
awards.
There will be two draws, each of
three games. The first two games will
be six -enders and the third game will
be eight ends.
"The event has proven to be one of
the most popular for our club
members," said Albert Van Dyken,
an event organizer. "The Gay Lea in-
volvement allows us to provide a first
class bonspiel with great prizes."
Everyone will receive some Gay
Lea butter as a memento of the event,
plus good fellowship, lunch an&
dinner.
Dubarry has
high dart score
Frank Dubarry recorded the high
score of 140 in Friday's regular play
in the Exeter Legion mixed dart
league.

cond 20 minutes of play in Sunday's
win over Elora.
Rick Hart broke the scoring goose
egg at the two minute mark as he
completed a three-way passing effort
- with John Kernick and Bill Glover.
Only 38 seconds later Cam Doig
beat Dan DeJong in the Elora nets
with Randy Kraut and Al Gates pro-
viding the passes.
Late in the period, the first of four
straight Exeter power play goals
came from the stick of Cam Doig.
Assisting were defencemen Barry
Baynham and Kraut.
The Mohawks clinched the victory
with three more scores in the first half
of the final session while they were en-
joying a one man advantage.
Scott Eccles notched the first and
was followed quickly by Norm Camp-
bell and Hon Elliott and Norm Camp-
bell. Providing the necessary passes
were Kris Bedard, Bill Glover, Brian
Mercer and Randy Kraut.
With one second left in the game
Brian Mercer notched the seventh
score for the Mohawks on passes from
Doug Latta and Norm Campbell. •
Exeter manager Doc Campbell ex-
pects to hear a decision on a protest
against a recent loss to Tavistock.
The Mohawks protested the use of an
ineligible player by Tavistock.
The Mohawks have been
strengthened by the return to (he
lineup of John Kernick. The area
young man was at fall training ses-
sions, but didn't see any action until
a week ago because of a serious in-
jury suffered in a farm accident. Kar -
nick spent four years with the St.
Marys Lincolns.
