look at area's history.
Twenty-five Grand Bend Golden
Agers met Wednesday afternoon at
St. John's Parish Hall. They were
taken on a beautifully scenic trip
through the Pinery Park, with a slide
show presented by Case Vanden-
bygaart, of the Pinery service. They
saw winter scenery, sunsets, and
wildlife - rabbits, foxes, deer, squir-
rels and many bird. There also was
the ski slope and skating area.
Then they were taken back in time
tothe early 1900's, when the main
street of Grand Bend was a dirt road
in the era of the Model T Ford cars.
There was the old Lake View Casino,
the Brenner Place, Pete and Mary
Ravelle's store, Maple Grove, the old
school and the first bridge being built
across the river, using real horse
power.! Next there were pictures from
1904: of .ttie_magnificent hotel at S.
'Joseph's, lovely , old homes, a
brickyard, and a wharf dating from
1907, now all gone. There were even
photos of the wrecked hulk of a ship
from the Great Storm of 1913, in
which 244 lives were lost on the lakes.
Mr. Vandenbygaart was warmly
thanked by Bertie Keyes, for his

for the United Church Women of

Farne Graham, of the Saskatchewan

recalling "the way it used to be," with
Woolen's Missionary Society and the
,(' Women's Association, before combin-
ing the two into the United Church
Women in 1961. She repeated the
UCW purpose, and discussed witness,
study. fellowship and service.

led by Eleanor Durie. Several hymns
were sung, accompanied by Irene
Kennedy. which also tied -in with the

Church of God
Sunday School opened the service
at the Church of God this past week,
followed by the morning service with
George Winegarden as song leader
and Michelle Vincent at the piano. She
also accompanied her mother in a
special solo.
In the evening service they com-
mended Richard Desjardine for sing-
ing his entire selection without benefit
of word.5,er notes, accompanied by his
mother at the piano. Millie Dei ar=
dine acted as song leader for the
selected hymns, with Michelle Vin-
cent at the piano, and Millie's hus-
band Morley at the organ.
In the mornjng service, Pastor Des-
jardine used as his scriptural
reference, Romans 12: 1-8, with verse
6 as the text for a timely message
about "Using our Talents". In the
evening, Rev. Desjardine chose Luke _
15: 1-10, the parable of the lost sheep.
He stressed the shepherds concern
over the tost sheep, his joy when it
was found, and his desire to have all
100 safely within the fold, not just 99.
He closed with a challenge to the
church family to pray, find and
befriend the lost.
Sympathy is extended to the
bereaved Thompson families and love
and compassion to the sick and shut
ins on the community. If we love God,
as we say we do, let us demonstrate
that love to others.

was read from ARC industries for a
donation from the Golden Agers. It
was decided that the ladies would

season. Happy birthday was sung for

Elizabeth Norris conducted a contest
about snow, with Dorothy Cutting, Iva
Latta and Annie Morenz collecting
prizes for the most right answers.
After a pleasant afternoon, the group
in charge served refreshments.
Bible study
The Bible study resumed with 12
ladies in attendance Tuesday mor-
nign at Sauble Court. Vera Brown
,opened with prayer and a hymn sing
was led by Janet Desjardine. They
began a new study from the workshop
on Christian character, on the
"Courageous Heart".
To be courageous one must seek to
know God's will for them and and to
depend upon His leading, instead -of
reacting in human fear or pressure.
The courageous also calm their fright
by acknowledging God's presence,
and acting while trusting in the Lord,
rather than panicking.
Millie Kane led the lesson and clos-
ed with prayer, especially remember-
ing the sick and the shut-ins. Meetings
are held each Tuesday morning at -
. 9:30 a.m., in the Sauble Court Lounge,
and all ladies are welcome to attend.
