The three boys basketball teams
from South Huron District High
School enjoyed a successful Friday
afternoon in Huron -Perth conference
play.
The midgets started the day off on
the right foot with a 59-30 victory.

Batten Tinney led the attack with 12
points.
Next came the juniors in a 55-38 win
Over Mitchell with Rob Pearen's 26
point output leading the way.

Irish fall three
points from first
The Lucan Irish have fallen three
points out of first place in the OHA
Western Junior 'D' south.division. but
have -a chance in the next week to get
back on top.
After taking on Thamesford
tonight, Wednesday in Lucan the Irish
go to Belmont Saturday to meet the
leading Bombers and the two are
back in Lucan. Wednesday. January
21.
The Irish defeated Mount Brydges
6-2 Wednesday and suffered a 4-3 loss
in Thamesford, Sunday night.
Grant Larsen led the Irish in the
win over Mount Brydges with a three
goal effort. Brad Muir fired two suc-
cessful shots and Paul DePlancke
hit the opposing net on one occasion.
Paul Barnes led the Lucan
playmakers with four assists. Wayne
Urbshott helped on two scores and
single. assists were credited to Scot
Deno my, Glen Marshall, Joe Febrey
and Mark Bannon.
Against Thamesford Sunday, the
Lucan marksmen were Grant
Larsen, Wayne Urbshott and Jesse
Crawford. Assisting were Paul
Barnes. Joe Febrey, Brad Muir, -Todd
Hayter and Mark Bannon.
Thamesford captain Gord Todd
scored what proved to be the winning
goal at 8.05 of the third period.
1976 Hawks reunite
The last time an Exeter Hawks won
an OHA Junior 'D' championship was
10 years ago. Most of that club along
with coach Ron Bogart will be back
in action at the South Huron Rec Cen-
tre Saturday night at 8 p.m. The op-
position will be supplied by the Exeter
Molting Hawks oldtimers team.
Bogart expects most of the 1976
team to be back in uniform Saturday
night.
The goal tenders are Laurie Skin-
ner and Randy Lovie while stationed
on the blueline should be Jim
Ferguson, Steve Knight, Dave
Kinsman, Steve Jennison, Paul
Brooks and Noel Skinner. •
Forwards expected back are John
Van Gerwen. Ken Pinder, Fred Mom-
mersteeg, Brian Taylor, Rick In-.
grant, Gerald Weido• Don McKellar.
Kim McKinnon and Matt Muller.
Helping at the end of the season were
midgets Randy Fisher. Ron Bilcke
and Paul and Perry Pooley. Fisher
and Bilcke will likely be in action. The
Pooleys are with Fort Wayne Komets
of the International hockey league.

In the final game, Petolia edged
the locals 46-42. Chris Fearen was
high scorer with 16 poins and Mark
Lomas checked in witi a 10 point
effort.
Tweens score
two big wins
The Exeter Tweert went on a scor-
ing spree in two pingette , games
played on the weekdrd. Saturday they
travelled to Fores'to post a 9-0 vic-
tory and Sunday vere in St. Marys to
win by a score of 11-1.
In Forest, Becli Farquhar led the
Exeter scoring vith a three goal per-
formance. Julie Merner was close
behind with a Or of successful shots
while Gisellr Charrette, Becky
Morgan, Julio Webster and Jayne
Rowe scoredln single fashion.

for the keens with two goals apiece

Morga Julia Merner and Jayne
Rowe. Gryseels was also best in
playmtking with three assists while
helpirg on one goal apiece were
Tony* Rhiel, Jayne Rowe, Giselle
Chartette, Janel Papple, Becky
Morgan and Becci Farquhar.
Campbell leads
Broncos to win
rhe Exeter Broncos scored a very
inpressive 7-2 win over the London
fibres in a Sunday Shamrock atom
-Lockey game played in Exeter.
Joel Campbell led the Broncos to
the victory with a five goal effort.
Four of his scores came on solo
dashes.
The other Exeter marksmen were
Mark Brintnell and Sean McCann.
The latter checked in with a pair of
assists while Paul Charrette, Scott
Parsons. Ian Jean and Trevor Taylor
each helped on one local score.

Hawks drop to fourth place
The Exeter Hawks put together
back -to -hack losses on the weekend
and as a result took a nose-dive in the
northern division standings.
After starting the season in the first
place, the Hawks spent November
and December in second place chas-
ing the front-runniig Brussels Bulls. ,
However, after the two January
losses, the local Iucksters now find
themselves all theway down in fourth
place and they're now chasing
Seaforth and Michell as well as the
Bulls. The Hawls hold a 10 -point lead
over the last pbce Clinton Mustangs
in the battle fir the fourth and last
playoff spot.
The Hawk: were drubbed 6-2 by
Seaforth at tome on Friday and then
took a 7-5 Iss in Brussels, Sunday.
The Centeraires moved into second
place with the win on Friday, and
they are row tied in that position by
Mitchell vho beat Thedford.
Both squads have 28 points, one
more thin the Hawks.
One c those two will get a bigger
lead a. they play each other on
Tuesd,y.
TheHawks will get a chance to bet-
ter ttair position as they hit the road
for tlree games this week. On Friday
thei 11 travel to Mitchell to battle
they namesakes and they have a Sun-
da' game in Clinton. Tuesday, the
loals return to Mitchell and they
wn't be home until January 23 when
trey host the Centenaires again.
Penalties hurt
After taking a 2-1 first period lead
in their game at . home against
Seaforth, the Hawks gave up four con-
secutive powerplay goals to the
Centenaires in the second and third
periods while Derek Cooper was keep-
ing them off the scoresheet.
The Hawks served 20 penalties
compared to only 10 by the visitors.
That included two minors and three
misconduct penalties for the locals
early in the third on the same play
and resulted in the ejection of coach
Steve Prout.
Jon O'Connor scored for the Hawks
on a powerplay in the first with Scott
Lovie and Steve Batten drawing the
assists and then Lovie notched the se-
cond on a play with O'Connor and,
George Pratt.
The Hawks enjoyed a territorial ad-
vantage in the game but couldn't beat
Waxers beat
Mitchell twice
The Exeter Waxers scored back-to-
back weekend wins over Mitchell in
novice division hockey action on the
weekend.
Saturday the Waxers won 5-2 in Mit-
chell in a game which was called with
three minutes to go in the third period
because of a hydro disruption. The
next day in Exeter the locals won by
a score of 6-1.
In Mitchell, Chris Lerikos Lk the
Waxers scoring attack with a MITT
goal performance. Adding the other
two successful shots was Marty
DeBruyn.
Brent Urlin was the top playmaker
with a pair of assists while Adam
Jean and Chris McDonald each
helped set up one goal.
Adam Jean and Marty DeBruyn
were double scorers in Sunday's win
on home ice. Scoring in single fashion
were Chad Gilfillan and Chris
Lerikos. Assists were provided by
Brent Urlin with two and Chris
Lerikos, Ryan Soldan and Chris
McDonald one each.
Molting Hawks
get fowled up
The Exeter Molting Hawks dropped
a 5-4 decision to the Clinton Fleming
Foul -Ups in an oldtimers hockey
game at the South Huron Rec Centre
Saturday night' with a good crowd in
attendance.
George Nahagang of Clinton scored
the winning goal with only five
seconds remaining in the third period.
He also scored the first goal of the
game. Following were successful
shots by Ross Jewitt, Mel Hohner and
Sly Kennedy.
Jim Russell opened the Molting
Hawks scoring as he converted a pass
from Pete McFalls. Mike Cushman
was the next to register with assists
going to Al Flynn and Scott Burton.
McFalls completed a three-way
passing combination with Frank
Boyle and Russell and Bob McDonald
converted a pass from Keith Ahrens
to o'omnlete the Exeter scoring.

Group end Individual Golf Lessons
Cooper after the first period. He kick-
ed out 18 shots in the final two periods
for a game total of 27, while Derek
Switzer had 19 saves for Exeter.
Bull Rally
The Hawks also enjoyed a first
period lead in Brussels on Sunday, but
again fell victim to the powerplay as
the Bulls rallied for the 7-5 triumph.
The hosts scored four times on the
powerplay and added another while
playing a man short to maintain their
mastery over the Hawks.
Exeter led 3-1 after the first and the
teams were knotted at 5-5 at the end
of two before the Bulls settled things
with two unanswered markers in the
final stanza.
Jeff Ansems, Mark Morrissey.
George Pratt, Steve Gould and Jim
Lewis scored for the Hawks. Lewis
added two assists as did Dean
Schram, while singles were recorded
by Steve Batten, Gould, Pratt and
Scott Lovie.
Brad Bender worked between the
pipes for the Hawks and recorded 31
saves, while Pat Chambers kicked out
36 for the Bulls in the evenly matcn-
ed contest.
Exeter had 12 penalties to 10 for the
Bulls and the former lost;-Jeff1faff/
and Mark Morrissey for fighting in
the first and Ansems for a battle in
which he engaged in the third.
Petites victorious
in ringette game
The Exeter Petite Ringette team
travelled to Forest on Saturday where
they scored a victory of 10-3.
The Petites were led to victory by
three goals from Lisa Forrest and Jill
Sararas. Janice Sanders accounted
for two and singles were fired by
Cheyenne Westlake and Cara
Gardner.
Danielle Miners, Carrie Simpson,
Cheyenne Westlake, Lisa Forrest and
Cara Gardner were all credited with
an assist.

Bullets streak to 10
The Exeter Big V Bullets stretch-
ed their unbeaten streak in the
Lambton-Middlesex houseleague pee
wee division to 10 games by defeating
the Lucan II club by a score of 9-2. In
exhibition play the Bullets defeated
Zurich 5-4.
After Shannon Thomas scored two
unassisted goals for Lucan, the
Bullets started to get their scoring
machine into gear.
Captain Ryan Lindenfield com-
pleted a three-way passing combina-
tion with Brad Thompson and Brett
Rideout before Ronny Theriault and
Brad Elschner scored on unassisted
efforts.
Elschner followed this with three
straight successful shots. Getting
assists were Ronny Theriault, Mark
Lynn, Jeremy Brock, Ryan Linden -
field and Allan McFalls.
To complete the Exeter scoring
Mark Lynn registered on a solo dash
and Jeremy Brock and Ryan Linden -
field were successful on passes from
Brett Rideout. Brad Thompson. Allan
McFalls and Mark Lynn.
Three straight unassisted goals in
the third period allowed the Bullets to
get past Zurich in the exhibition con-
test. Brad Elschner fired two of the
late goals and the other came from
the stick of Ryan Lindenfield.
In the first period Elschner counted
from Lindenfield converted a pass
from Lynn.
Jason Schilbe notched two of the
Zurich goals. One came on an
unassisted effort and the other on a
pass from Andy Grainger. Wayne
McDougall also scored without any
assistance and Chad Willemsen con-
verted a pass from Pete Overholt.
Shuffleboard action
Competition was keen as the shuf-
fleboard players at the South Huron
Rec Centre returned to three days of
action this week.
In Tuesday's play, Verda Lightfoot
recorded the high score for the men
at 398. Next came Pearl McKnight 377
and Gertrude Hamilton 340. Scores
for the men were John Pepper 343,
Charles Tindall 317, Albert Hummell
315 and Steve Hrapchak 315.
Laverne Stone with a 381 tops for
the men in Wednesday's five game
action. He was followed by Tom
Yellow 362 and Phil Hern 308. Best in
four were Harold Rowe 314, Walter
Davis 294 and Delmar Skinner 290.
Ladies five game winners were
Pearl McKnight 331, Olive Harvey 218
and Mabel McKnight 207 while high
scorers for four games were Alva
Heywood 325, Grace Farquhar 302
and Verda Lightfoot 283.
In Thursday's competition, Mar-
shall Dearing compiled a six game
score of 528. Next came John Eberle
457 and Ray Cottle 455.
