The Exeter Mohawks continue to
hold down first place in the Ontario
}jockey Association Senior 'B' Central
division by three points over the
Tavistock Royals.
In games over the weekend, the
Mohawks picked up three of a possi-
ble four points as they played to a 5-5
Friday night draw with the Hillsburgh
Royals and Saturday trounced the
Palmerston 81's by a score of 9-4.
This coming weekend the Exeter
club will be in' Palmerston par-
ticipating in the annual Senior 'A' and
'B' tournament sponsored by the 81's.
The Mohawks are defending
champions.
Their first action in Palmerston
comes Friday night at 9:15 p.m. when
they take on the Durham Huskies.
Other teams competing are from
Grand Valley, V1 afford, New Ham-
burg, Dunnville,Chatham, Lambeth
and Dresden along with the host

St. Marys defeated Exeter III by a
score of 7-1 in a Saturday novice
houseleague game at the South Huron
Rec Centre.
The only score for the locals carne

a shootout to decide which club would
go on to meet Byron.
Thanks to great goal tending by
Doug Kells. the Bears won the
shootout after eight tries. They went
on to heat Byron 6.1 and I hen defeated
the host Strathroy club in a- two
games total goal series by scores of
1-0 and 5.1.
Atter a controversial and lengthy -
meeting with the tournament con-
vener Strathroy was allowed to use
two- players only -signed the night
before.
In the final game after Strathroy
tied the series with the first goal. a
Strathroy power play backfired and
the Bears were able to score thanks
to it .clearing pass interception by
.John Kochan.
At this:point a rash of - Strathroy
penalties started and the Bears were
able to take advantage and go on to
w -in. Referees handed out a total of 68
minutes in penalties to Strathroy
voile the Bears were only assessed
four minutes.
Coach John Campbell and trainer
John Ducharme said they were very
proud of their team's character in not
retaliating to several incidents and
playing a - very disciplined style of
hockey.
The overall season record for the
Bears is 19 wins, three losses and one
tie. They have scored 101 goals and
allowed only :38 scores by the
opposition. _
Tweens score
ringette victory
The Exeter Tweens ringette team
scored a 5-1 victory over St. Mares at
the liensall arena -Saturday

Julia Merner led the Exeter girls
scoring attack with a two goal perfor-
mance. One came on an unassisted ef-
fort and the other on passes from
Becky Morgan and Becci Farquhar:
The other three goals for the local
Tweens were fired . by Bryden
Gryseels, Becky Morgan and Giselle
Charrette. Assists were credited to
Jayne Rowe, Tonya Riehl. Julia
Merner and Carrie Lovie.
Swat sweeps
five pointer
The Swat team swept five points as
regular action resumed Friday night
in the Exeter Legion mixed dart
league. Dean McKnight recorded the
high score for men with a 140 and
Jean Simpson was the high spare lady
at 135.

BEST PLAYER -- Brussels forward Kevin McArter was named the
most valuable player in the weekend Exeter Hawks tournament and
receives his award from team manager Dan Brintnell. McArter scored
nine goals in the three games his team won to win their second con-
secutive tournament.
Phil Hern high
in shuffleboard
In the only shuffleboard action of
the week at the South Huron Rec Cen-
tre, Tuesday afternoon. Phil Hern
recorded the men's high six game
score of 454. He was followed by Ross
Marshall 368 and Walter Davis 327.
On the ladies side, Velma Huft was
tops with a score of :381. Next came
Mabel McKnight 322 and Ruby
Beaver 306.
