CHRISTMAS
By Victoria Bisback
Grade 5-6 liensall Public School
Christmas time is almost here
Presents, laughter and good cheer.
Christmas trees, and Christmas lights
Fun and jolly happy nights.
Caroling, oh how much fun
Afterwards a sugar bun.
Santa Claus with gifts so nice,
Children sleeping like little mice.
When they wake full of joy
There's a toy for each girl and boy.
SANTA
By David Kirk
Grade 7 - Zurich Public School
Santa is a jolly fellow,
With a belly full of jello.
Every year he would bellow,
This kid's getting a brand new cello.
Down the chimney he would go,
This little boy is getting G.I. Joe.
Down the chimney he would slide,
This little girl's getting a sled to glide.
Deck the halls, deck the gym, on
December 15 and December 16,
children at "St. B." decorated the
gym for the Christmas concert which
was performed on Tuesday, Dec. 16
for Zurich Public School, Dec. 17 a
matinee and Dec. 17 evening for
parents, friends, and relatives. The
concert ended in a festival of lights
performed by Grade 4 students. The
audience was delighted. Special
thanks to Mrs. Shelley Hoffman who
provided the ical accompaniment
for the cert and parents who
het ith costumes especially Mrs.
Wanda Regier, Mrs. Louise Merner
and Mrs. Belle Merner.
On Dec. 15 some of our students at-
tended a presentation by the Exeter
High School Drama Club at Zurich
Public School. Grades one and two
went to the Lambton Heritage
Museum pear Grand Bend where
they enjoged an old-fashioned

The gym will be all decked up for
some Christmas fun on Dec. 18. At the
social for the grades six, seven, and
eight games will be played like limbo.
On Dec. 17, grade seven and eight

those scrumptious pizzas.
You better not shout, better not cry,
cause the Christmas holidays are just
around the corner. Everyone at "St.

TIME FOR JOY
By Wendy Rau
Grade 5 St. Boniface School
Christmas is a time for joy,
To give to any girl or boy.
Christmas is a time for treats -
To give to anyone you meet.
The bells are ringing,
The children singing,
"Oh, what a joy!"
It's Christmas for every girl and boy.
To love and care.
To give and share.
Merry Christmas.
WINTER
By Laura Lee Creces
Grade 5 St. Boniface School
I, heard the church bells chime the
early hour,
I felt the chilly cold wind,
The icy snow teased my tingling toes.
The snow shone softly in the sun's
early rays,
The wind whistled shrilly through the
keyhole,
It made my ears ring.
I heard the happy childrens' shouts,
Their cries of winter delight,
I turned by back,
It was time to getwarm and have in-
door fun.
The People
Who Forgot Christmas
By Chad Brown
Grade 5 St. Boniface School
"Jen9y get into bed" yelled her
father. "I'm coming down to tuck you
in." Jenny's father came downstairs
to tuck her in. Before he left the room
Jenny asked him to tell her a story
and he thought one up. This is -the one.
T'was long ago, far over the sea,
there was a little island in the Indian
Ocean which was discovered by seven
people. They came on an airplane but
they had no fuel to fly it back.
The island was deserted. On this
warm summer night it was
Christmas. These people were lost.
They forgot about God. As they were
laying on the beach they suddenly
awoke. When an angel appeared to
them saying, "The Spirit will come
upon you."
Then in front of them an image of
the nativity. The angel said,, 'You are
the followers of God. You shall make
this land new and follow the Lord. The
next day they built a village and
dedicated it to the Lord. They called
it Peace. GoodlYight Jenny.

No objections to major Glean -out
Drain report in
None of the two dozen Zurich and
Hay township property owners who
attended a public meeting objected to
the recommended major clean-out of
the Zurich drain. The only concerns
were the costs to individual
ratepayers. .
Reeve Bob Fisher toted that the
drain was first cleaned out in 1942,
and nothing has been done in the past
19 years. During that time farmers
were permitted to install culverts
without first obtaining engineering
specifications. Many culverts along
the drain are now too high. #
Don Pletch of Huron -Middlesex
Engineering Ltd. used maps and
drawings to explain in detail all. that
would be involved in a major clean-
out. He said MTC would pay 'the
estimated 940,000 cost fbr the
Highway 84 crossing. • •
Keith Westlake wanted to know if
the clean-out would include the drain

Taking into account benefit and
outlet assessments, Pletch gave a
"ballpark" figure of :100 on. an
average one-quarter acre lot in the
village. On agricultural land, $1,200
per hectare will be allowed for crop

property owners to pay the entire cost

paying the interest on borrowed

If I Was One of Santa's
Elves
By Stephen Bell
Grade 3 Hensall Public School
If I was one of Santa's'elves it would
be fun because if I went with Santa I
would get some goodies with Santa.
I might not get any presents. I don't
care. If I was fat I would lose a pound
or two! I wonder how many presents
the other girls and boys get for
Christmas? Bet it is likely better to be
an elf. How are all the children Santa?
Santa could I come with you this
Christmas for a sleigh? If the children
were wondering how cold it is tell
them. Will you Santa? Tell them that
I will be coming in the sleigh next
year. Will you ask one of the children
to the North -Pole some time because
we will have lots of fun. Will you
please tell them I am asking for
them?
Tell them to ask their moms and
dads. Will you tell them I am asking
for them?
P.S. Now we have another reindeer
named Rudolph. He has a bright nose
that glows in the dark. When it is time
to hitch up the reindeer I help. We line
up the strongest reindeer first while
Santa Claus falls asleep. When it is
time to wake up we wake him up.
We load the sleigh with presents. I'm
the leader of the elves. It will be fun
next year.
Bye-bye children. See you next year!
I . WAS AN ELF
By Mary -Ann MacDonald
Grade 3 Hensall Public School
When I go to the North Pole every
year at Christmas Time I get a pre-
sent. I give Santa Claus a chocolate
cookie. I go with Santa Claus with his
reindeer. The leader's name is
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.
Rudolph shows the way. I asked San-
ta if I could stay over night. I got to
sleep with Rudolph all night. In the
morning I told Santa I had to go home
now. Mom and dad will be looking for
me. Santa took me home. The other
elves waved to me, Good-bye.
