First prize was won by Mr. and Mrs. Bill Baker of York Crescent; second prize went to Mr. and Mrs. Harry Moir, London Road and third place honours went to Mr. and Mrs. Dave Groot of Queen St. It's too bad there couldn't have been -more winners because there are many v4onderful displays throughout the village. Nortkerest news The residents held a traditional old- fashioned . Christmas last Monday evening complete with turkey and plum pudding. A GIFT — Santa visited the Queensway nursing home to hand out parcels of treats to residents. He stopped to chat with Edna McLellan. . The Nor - thereat residents 4,ould like to wish her a speedy recovery in time for Christmas. John Gravett of Guelph visited on Friday, December 19 with his grand- parents, Glen and Pearl McKnight. Hazel Luther has returned home after a two week visit in Florida with her son and daughter-in-law Eric and Shirley Luther. The residents would like W extend their sympathy to the family of Joe _McLellan of Northcrest who recent- ly passed away. Jack and Raye McKnight of Ottawa Queenswa1, Well, this is the big week! We are on the final countdown for Christmas as well as the year 1986. Let the fun begin! Speaking �f fun we've been having fun, especially in the past week, to say the least. On Monday we added to our Christmas atmosphere with our,own ielf-made murals which unavoidably 'tad a Christmas theme. Tuesday morning brought us visitors from the Hensall Public School Choir, who came over to visit and sing for us the season's favourite carols. Thank you, students, for com- ing over and seeing us. Mr. Cowan held this week's church service Tuesday_afternoon. it was a delightful service, as we shared stories, and sang carols. Wednesday morning we got the chance to go over to the Hensall Public School to get a preview of the children's Christmas Concert. It was a super morning, as well as very entertaining for all of us. Wednesday was our annual - residents' Christmas party. It was an evening filled with Christmas cheer as well as song, and a special visit , from old St. Nick himself. It was a thrill to visit with Santa as he passed out his special packages to everyone. This night also marked a historical happening for Queensway. The residents' Christmas party marked officially t(te Volunteer Auxiliary's first special event, and it was a super sucess. Thanks very much ladies! The next evening it was t'a for the Hensall Legion Christmas�rogram; The event was a smashi success and enjoyed by all. We would like to send out a warm thank you to the Legion for putting on such a special evening for us. Queensway would also like to thank George Mathonia and group for sharing their musical talent with us, as well as the Men's Choir under the direction of Mr. Al DeHaan. Thanks, gentlemen, for making our evening very entertaining! To finish our busy week we had our. exercises bright and .early Fridays morning. In the afternnon it was time! for Men's Hour. the gentlemen spent an enjoyable afternoon, visiting and becoming friendly competitors with several of our board games. Well that's it for this week. The residents of Northcrest would like to wish everyone a Happy Holiday. Shuffleboard A large group of 24 shufflers turn- ed out on Thursday, December 18 at the Hensall Arena. Afterwards the Happy Pushers enjoyed a Christmas party. Ladies high scores were Betty Grenier - 404, Eileen Dawson - 373, , Gertie Moir and Marg Consitt 292. Men's high scores were Walter Spencer - 391, Dave Kyle - 356 and Alphonse Grenier 325. Hensall Tykes The Hensall Tyke hockey team • battled to a 3-3 tie with Clinton on Saturday. Hensall goals were scored by Jeff Campbell, Graham Keys and Brock Weiss. Scoring the goals for Clinton were John Miller with two and Darren Bartliff with one. Library draw, The Hensall Library held his annual Christmas draw on Saturday. Mindy Bell was the happy winner of the gingerbread house.
