Dish belt th Bombers 8.1
The Lucan Irish came up with a big
win when it was needed Wednesday
night and they moved into a tie for
first place in the OHA Western Junior
"D" southern division.
The Irish belted the Belmont
Bombers 8-1 and the win put them on
even terms with Belmont with 35
points apiece. Since that time each
team has won one game and r"Finain
deadlocked with 37 points. Saturday
night the Lucan club edged the Exeter
Hawks 7-6 and Belmont downed
Mount Brydges by a 5-3 score.
This week, the Irish will be at home
tonight, Wednesday to the
Thamesford Trojans and Saturday
night they play host to Seaforth.
Details of the Lucan win over the
Exeter Hawks Saturday night will be
found elsewhere on these sports
pages. It was the Irish's recognition
of Minor Hockey Week. All minor
players received tickets to the game
and two novice teams performed bet-
ween the first and second periods and
during the second intermission
members of the Lucan figure skating
club showed their talents.
Irish goalie Doug Haskett turned in
an excellent performance in Wednes-
day's win over Belmont. The only

'support. curling
Gay Lea Foods of Weston will, for
the third year, sponsor a nine event
series to be known as the Gay Lea
Better Butter Bonspiel.
The 1987 series will include one ad-
ditional event from the past two
year's bonspiels..Each event must
either be a mixed or ladies only
bonspiel to qualify .for the support
from Gay Lea and the Dairy Bureau
of Canada. Most of the events are held
in communities where Gay Lea has
manufacturing facilities.
For 1987 the first bonspiel will be
held in Allenford, ( just west of Owen
Sound) and will be followed by events
in Ilderton, Exeter, Milton,
Woodstock, Teeswater, Belmore and
Guelph. The new event for 1987 will be
held in Vanastra.
Each curling club that hosts a Bet-
ter Butter Bonspiel receives a cash
donation from Gay Lea and a
generous supply of Gay Lea products
for snacks and complements to meals
served. The financial contribution
allows the c lub to provide one of its
best prize tables of the year. The Gay
Lea events are generally over
subscribed very soon after entry
forms are available.
"We find the Gay Lea events give
us an opportunity to support the com-
munities that support us," said Vince
Kishimoto , Gay Lea's marketing
set'vIcet Manager. "The.events are
pdpfh'f aid they' area way for Gay
IUea to generate -a little fun for the
curlers of the community."
The first bonspiel will be held
Janaury 10 and the last will conclude
in late March 1987.
