Bill Glover also assisted. Brian Mercer with two goals and an assist and Ron Elliott with three assists were tops in the scoring department for the Mohawks. Doug Latta also scored twice. In the first period, Mercer and Exeter Tavistock Elora Hillsburgh Harriston New Hamburg Palmerston Doug Latta Winked the light behind the New Hamburg net with Elliott getting two assists and Mercer and Rick Hart helping on one each. In the second period it was the same two scoring again. Mercer and Latta assisted on each other's goals and Elliott and Hart also chipped in. New Hamburg scored early in the third period to tie the score at 4-4 and WP.t the stage for Tuckey's game Winner. December 24, 1986Mohawksmove into passessionof.Pape SA The Exeter Mohawks currently lead the OHA Central Senior 'B' stan- dings by two points over the Elora Rocks and TaPistock Royals, but if . Sunday's game against New Ham- burg had been one second shorter the league lead would be three points. Mark Soehner scored at 19:59 to give the New Hamburg Towers a 3-3 tie with the Mohawks. Friday night the Mohawks were edged 7-5 by the Rocks in Elora and Saturday night they were in New Hamburg and squeezed past the Towers by a 5-4 score. The Christmas holiday will be short for the Mohawks as they swing back into action Saturday night at the South Huron Rec Centre taking on the Tavistock Royals, one of the clubs which is in hot pursuit of first place. Game time is 8:30 p.m. Sunday night, the Harriston Blues will be in town for a 7:30 p.m. contest. Rocky start Due to a quick start, hard hitting and persistent forechecking the Elora Rocks were able to keep ahead of the Mohawks Friday night. Morley Bosomworth scored two first period goals for the Rocks and Gary Short added a single. The only reply for the Mohawks was a suc- cessful shot from the stick of Brian Mercer on passes from Rick Hart and Pete Tuckey. In the second period both teams scored a pair of markers as the Rocks maintained their two goal margin. Rick Hart converted a pass from Barry Baynham and captain Randy Kraul registered on passes from Scott Eccles and Al Gates. Rod Martin and Gary Short replied for Elora. In the final stanza, Doug Latta scored for the Mohawks on a power play with the assist going to Pete Tuckey and the locals scoring was completed by Bill Glover on a pass from Al Gates. Tuckey gets winner The Mohawks win in New Hamburg Shufflers enjoy Christmas party The many enthusiastic members of the Exeter shuffleboard club enjoyed a Christmas party Wednesday in ad- dition to their regular competition. The day began with Christmas cake, cookies, coffee and tea being en- joyed by 50 members. In charge were Eldon and Alva Heywood, Olive Essery, Jean Hern and Mildred Thomson. On the courts, Bob and Ellen Kuntz recorded the high score of 204 plus for three wins. Next came John Eberle and Marion Dearing with 175 and Marshall Dearing and Velma Huff 128. The hard luck pair was Charles Tindall and Marion Johns. In Tuesday's regular play, John Pepper was tops for the men with a six game score of 380 followed by Tom Yellow 329 and Harold Beaver 304. A score df 414 put Olive Essery in- to first place for the ladies. Next came Verda Lightfoot 388 and Beatrice Ballantyne 350. For the next two weeks shuf- fleboard play will be held only on Tuesdays. Nigh score in ringette Exeter downed Huron Park by a score of 11-5 in an Ontario Ringette Association tweens game played Saturday in Ilensall. Becky Morgan led the Exeter club with four successful shots. She also collected two assists. Julia Merner and Bryden Gryseels each fired two goals and single scores were added by Janelle Papple, Jayne Rowe and Bec- ci Farquhar. Farquhar added four assists, Merner helped on three scores while Giselle Charrette and Bryden Gryseels were credited with single assists. Mary Lynn Dietrich was tops for Huron Park with a pair of markers and added one assist. Scoring the other goals in single fashion were Charmaine Pritchard, Christina Glanville and Kerri-Lynn Rotten. Michelle Bowerman was the top playmaker with a pair of assists.
