All stars next
The following Saturday, that's January 10, the Lucan Irish will
again host the annual Western Junior 'D' all star game with the
best of the north taking on the stars from the south.
For the first time in quite a few years, the Exeter Hawks and
Lucan Irish are in separate divisions. The Irish are currently tied
with the Belmont Bombers for first place in the south and the
Hawks have a safe hold on second spot in the northern division
thanks to wins this week over Mitchell and Brussels.

Hawks enjoy most productive. week of junior 'p'
The Exeter Hawks put together one
of their most productive weeks of the
season as they took five of a possible
eight points against four of the top
teams in the Western Junior "D"
loop.
The five points solidified their hold
on second place in the northern div
sion and probably assured them of a
playoff spot as they are now 14 points
ahead of the cellar -dwelling Clinton
Mustangs.
Exeter plays only once during the
festive season as they host the
Mustangs in Hensall on Sunday at
3:30.p.m. in preparation for their an-
nual tournament on the following
weekend.
The Hawks started their week off
with a 4-4 draw against the northern
division leading Brussels Bulls and
then clobbered their namesakes from
Mitchell on Friday by a 7-2 count. The
lone loss came in Lucan, Saturday,
but it was also a solid effort from the
Hawks and they quickly rebounded to
beat'1'hamesford 4-2 in Hensall Sun- net by one of his mates in a clearing
day afternoon.
Heartbreaker
The single point garnered against
Brusss was actually a disappoint-
ment ftr the locals as the visitors got
the equalizer with only two seconds
left in the game.
The Bulls pulled their goalie with
over a minute to go and the Hawks
just missed on one chance to get the
clincher and then got themselves in-
to trouble with a couple of icing calls
that put the puck back into their own
end.
The teams scored two times each in
the first stanza and the Hawks took
their one -goal lead in the second when
they outscored the visitors by a 2-1
margin.
The equalizer came on a scramble
and the puck just squeezed under
goalie Fred Gregus, who had been
victimized in the first period when a
shot he had blocked was put into his
attempt.
Jeff Ansems, Steve •Gould, Jeff.
Pfaff and Jeff Dalrymple scored for
the locals with Jon O'Connor picking
up two assists and singles being
recorded by Jeff Reid, Dan Nairn and
Steve Batten.
Gregus ended the game with 34
saves.
Blow them away
Before a large audience of minor
hockey -players on Friday, the Hawks
scored four times in the final period
to blast their Mitchell namesakes by
a 7-2 count.
The homesters led 2-0 after the first,
but were ahead by only a 3-2 margin
to start their onslaught in the final
stanza.
O'Connor paced' the attack with
four goals, while Scott Lovie added a
pair and the single came off the stick
of Pfaff.
Batten and Ansems drew a pair of
assists to lead in that department with
