Critictil of coverage
While visiting in the area I came
across a copy of the Times Advocate
dated December 10, 1986. Headlines
that stood out read "Crediton roan
dies two days after fine". I find this
small of Exeter Advocate to report a
story of this nature. It is quite obvious
you people knew of this man's death
The year is always portrayed as an
old man or a baby. Like most people,
it never gets any attention when it's
middle-aged.

At a time of sorrow people don't
need to be reminded of their loved
one's mistakes nor is it the public's
business to read about it in your
paper. Out of due respect I find it very
unnecessary to report this kind of
news on your front page or any other
page for that matter.
What ever happened to "Rest in

I am positive many people in the
area share my feelings.

Attention: Mr. Bill Batten
Letter to.the Editor,
As a reader of this newspaper, I
found it very disturbing to find an ar-
ticle such as the one that appeared in
the December 17, 1986 issue of your
newspaper under the headline "Local
Man Not Guilty On 3`ex Assault
Counts".
I feel that it is with extreme poor
taste that the editor of this paper - Mr.
Bill Batten - would resort to first of all
even writing an article like this and
secondly considering putting in in
print.
There is no, real need for such
graphic details to be printed in a
newspaper whether or not someone is
found guilty or not guilty.
As far as you are concerned, Mr.
Batten, the man you reported on, may
as well have been found guilty and -
convicted since you have left him to
be tried by the public through your
newspaper. To my knowledge the on-
ly other place something like this
would be found would be in the "En-
quirer". Never would you find this
type of disgusting reporting in the
London Free Press or the Toronto
Star. I suppose this is why the Free

Press and Toronto Star are so widely
read and appreciated by the public.
In my telephone conversation with
you, Mr. Batten I was totally shock-
ed by your question to me - "What
was it about the article that I found
disgusting?"
I would suppose that for those of the
public who enjoy the pastime of
gossiping then this would be perfect
material and not disgusting to them
in the least. I find it very embarrass-
ing to read intimate details about peo-
ple in my community.
Perhaps you should consider prin-
ting more about the affairs of the
world and less about the affairs of
your neighbours. !
Sincerely yours

To the Editor;
On Dec. 2nd Jack Riddell voted in
the Legislature to protect homosex-
uals from discriminaton. Under this
new law, neither a family with a self-
• contained,apartmentfor rent, nor an
employer with teenage workers, will
be able to refuse an applicant because
of homosexuality.
The nub of the matter is this. Jack
(bless him) apparently believes, as he
says in a letter to me, that we should
"let homosexuals live and work
where they choose. "I don't. Like
many others, I believe they should be
kept away from youngsters:. IN'
Jack also speaks of a' "long
sentence" for "sexual advances to
minors. Surely this is no good either,
as the damage to the child will have
been done. If timely discrimination
can protect some youngsters from be-
ing molested (maybe even catching
A.I.D.S.), then we should.
discriminate.
If you agree, then please phone
Jack at 235-0170 and tell him you want
the law changed, and soon.
Yours sincerely
Peter Edisbury
P.S. Love homosexuals? Sure. Their
practices? Never. If Jack doesn't
know it, then many of us can tell him
from exf erience that a sizable
percentage of homosexuals have a
craving for boys.

Trees go up and decorations on,
People party from dusk 'till dawn,
At Christmas time.
Jingle bells and carols ring,
Everyone is invited to sing,
At Christmas time.
Reindeer fly and elves work fast,
That It+ng awaited day is here at last,
It's Christmas time.
