Roy Coley gets
special award
Roy Coley, a recreation volunteer
from Watford, will receive a regional
Corps d'Elite award, Ontario Minister
of Tourism and Recreation, John
Eakins announced today.
The award was presented on
December 27 at the Watford Arena,
in conjunction with the opening of the
International Silver Stick Hockey
Tournament.
Roy Coley, a radio announcer who
annually attends Exeter's Sport-
smen's dinner, has dedicated his life
to enhancing recreational activities in
the Watford Community. He was the
first president of the Watford Minor
Hockey Association, former ex-
ecutive member of the Western Coun-
ties Baseball Association, and served
as a member of the Watford
Mustangs and General hockey clubs
for several years.
Caley's interest in hockey led to the
organization of the International
Silver Stick Hockey Tournament in
which 59 teams participate annually.
"Volunteers contribute over 20
million hours a year to leisure ac-
tivities in Ontario,':Eakins said. "By
giving special recognition to
volunteers with these awards, new
volunteers are encouraged to donate
their talents to the development of
recreation programs."
"This regional award recognizes
outstanding contributions by in-
dividuals who devote their own time
developing recreation dtportunities
for others," Eakin said. "Roy Caley
has made a tremendous contribution
to recreation in southwestern
Ontario."
The Ministry of Tourism and
Recreation introduced the Corps
d'Elite awards in May, 1986.
Anyone wishing to submit nomina-
tions for 1987 Corps d'Elite awards
should contact their local Tourism
and Recreation field office.
