Church service
Rev. Robert Matheson was in
charge of the First Sunday After
Christmas church service, Sunday
morning. Rev. Matheson told the
children's story entitled "One Candle
To Light". The choir sang "Hymn of
the New Year" accompanied by the
organist Miss Agnes Bray.
The sermon was entitled "The
Shadow Which Casts Light".'•
When people hear of the mighty
acts of God we are often compelled to
confess our sins" because we know
nothing we will ever accomplish can
possibly measure up to the ac-
complishments of God. Isaiah 63:7-9
challenges us to look at ourselves in
the.mirror. The shadow of darkness
cast in this world are the makings of
human hands!
The Shadow of God - God's Son -
came into the world to dwell among
us but he also comes to do far more
than that. He comes to participate in
the human environment. He comes to
share our life and His life with us.
Jesus comes to this world to be in
solidarity with us.
He comes t4 live in the world of
shadows which have been created by
human beings. lie comes to bring
light into this world of darkness. He
goes so far as to allow himself to be
victimized by the shadows of this
world through his suffering and
death.

WHAT DO I YELL MY CHILD WHEN SOAEEQYE DIES?
If news of a death seems to overwhelm you personalty, "lean" on
another supportive adult first. Then, approach your child. Get him in
close physical contact and shore your love, your sadness, and the news.
You might say something like this:
"Billy, I feel sod about something that has happened. Your cousin Fred
died. That means he's gone and you won't see him again. No one will
see him again."
By expressing your feelings calmly and giving calm support to his ex-
pression of feelings, you show him that he can deal with these feel-
ings in himself.
Don't be upset at his expression of sadness. Children will often turn
off their feelings rather than upset their parents.
The foct is that children prow as a result of experiencing "difficult"
feelings with their parents' support. But in dealing with such feelings,
be sure your support and love are clearly expressed.
