ADJUSTMENT — Sob Erb demonstrates headlight alignment to Velma
Robinson, Pat Campbell and Shelley Weber.
Car care clinic
What goes on under the hood of a
motor vehicle is an enigma wrapped
in a riddle to most females. Some of
the mystery was- cleared up for a
group of ladies who recently attend-
ed a two -night car care clinic spon-
sored by Petrocan and held in Bob
Erb's garage in Hensall.
The clinics are designed to teach.
women the rudiments of automotive
mechanics, so drivers will treat their
vehicles properly, know what to do in
emergency conditions like skids or
blow -outs, and be more
knowledgeable about t'epairs.
Erb and mechanic Gerry Neilands
demonstrated alternators and car-
buretors, belted and radial tires,
brake drums and cylinders. They
taught the proper way to put on
booster cables, how to check oil and
transmission fluid, and where to put
the antifreeze.
Headlights were aligned, hoses
checked, and the butterfly value on
the automatic choke explained. A car
was hoisted up so all could see the ex-
haust system, and tires were remov-
ed to reveal the front and rear brakes.
The two patiently answered all
questions, and passed along in-
numerable tips ranging from routine
maintenance, starting a flooded car.
to distinguishing between some red
lights onthe dash which mean stop at
once, and others that allow you to
limp along to the nearest service
station.
A number of hand-outs dealt with
winter driving, rotating tires, acci-
dent reporting and putting together
an emergency kit.
Betty Tinney won a set of booster
cables donated by MacLeans.
(This reporter, who was -ordered by
her husband to sign up, found the
course very helpful. Someone who
previously didn't know a fan belt from
a garter belt now knows that though
the latter is obsolete, panty hose can
be used in an emergency if the fan
belt breaks).
Erb intends to offer the women's
car care clinic a:ain in'January.

Vesper Service Sunday evening
White Gift service well presented
ing service we will be celebrating the C.G.I.T. will hold their very beautiful
Sacrament of Holy Communion. Dur- Vesper Service starting at 7:30 p.m.
ing the evening of the same day, the Everyone is welcome!
The traditional White Gift service
was beautifully presented by the Sun-
day School students at the Heaiall
United Church on Sunday, December
7th. The many long hours of hard
work were in clear evidence on Sun-
day. The costuming of the characters
alone required not only great im-
agination but great dedication. The
children were exceptionally well
behaved and carried through on all of
their parts with great enthusiasm.
The service was based on the new
curriculum being used by the Sunday
School entitled "Journeying
Together" which covers many of the
very colourful and exciting
characters in the Old Testament.
There were approximately 50
students involved in various roles dur-
ing the service and each one deserves
our heartfelt praise.
The service began with our Sunday to
School Superintendent, Glenn Hayter,
giving words of welcome to the con-
gregation. Following this, the second
advent candle was lit by Shawn
Wurm and Scott Gould. Then, Cathy
Corbett very ably read the Prayer of
Approach after which she led us in the
-Lord's Prayer. This was followed by
the hymn "0 Come All Ye Faithful".
Unfortunately Angela Bell had fallen
ill, so in her place •Mark Brock suc-
cessfully led the the congregation in
the reading of the Prayer of Confes-
sion followed by the Assurance of
Pardon.. -
The Junior choir then sang their
very lovely anthem, "Home to
Bethlehem". Thanks to our new choir
director, Debbie Wood, for her many
hours of dedication to the Junior choir
which did marvelously well on their
very first appearance this school
year. We,will be looking forward to
hearing more from these very
talented young people.
Our Old Testament scripture was
then read by Jodie McGee after which
our New Testament scripture was
read by Jeremy Reid. Following the
singing of the hymn "0 Little Town
of Bethlehem", the Sunday School
presented their drama entitled
"Voices From the Past". The drama
introduces many of the signficant peo-
ple from the Old Testament and ex-
plores their faith and committment to
God. We follow along beginning with
Abraham down to King David and the
prophets Isaisah and Micah who
foretold of the coming of the Christ
Child..
The students involved in the drama
were (in order of appearance):
Heather Wood - announcer, Derick
McGee -interviewer, Karie-Sue Kyle -
Sarah, Jonathon Corbett -Abraham,
Angela Gould -Joseph, Shawn Wurm-
Moses, . Thomas Scotchmer-Aaron,
Victoria Bisback-Miriam, Amy
Campbell -Ruth, Robert Gackstetter-

Hi, and welcome to Queensway
News. We are really getting excited
about Christmas at Queensway, es-
pecially because our first seasonal
party is coming up this Thursday. If
you're not in the Christmas spirit yet,
come on over for our Spruce Party on
December 11. We guarantee we'll get
you in the Christrflas spirit!!
Our Tuesday church service this
week was given by Reverend Alles.
He presented us with a beautiful ser-
vice that included singing our favour -
tie Christmas carols.
Wednesday morning it was exer-
cise time once again, which always
helps to "perk -up" our day.
At 6:30 p.m. Wednesday evening,
our Auxiliary met for the second time.
We would like to send out our con-
gratulations to our first "official"
auxiliary president for the term
1986-87, Mrs. Lillian Baker, and our
secretary for the term 1986-87, Mrs.
Eileen Rannie. Congratulations;
ladies!
If you have been thinking of becom-
ing a part of our Queensway volunteer
auxiliary and want some more infor-
mation please call Joan Hay at
Queensway and we'd be happy to
speak with you.
Thursday morning it was once
again time for exercises. Then in the
evening we enjoyed our movie of the
week, "Path of the Paddle", which
opened our eyes to beautiful scenery,
canoeing and the thrill. and excite-
ment of "shooting the rapids".
Friday afternoon at 2'00 p.m.,
Father Mooney came in to hold mass
for our Roman Catholic residents.
Finally, Queensway would like to
share some very good news with you,
that we are very proud to announce.
Last week we received notice from
Canadian Council on llospital Ac-
creditation that we have been award-
ed three years accreditation status

Smith -Micah.
Following the drama, the congrega-
tido sang "Away in a Manger" aathe
younger students formed the very
beautiful manger scene at the front of
the church. The following children
had roles: Ryan Kyle -Joseph; Janet
Traquair-Mary; Blair Moir, Janine
Hayter and Lori Gould -Wise Men;
Jamie Campbell, Mark Bell and Den-
nis Noakes -Shepherds; and Lisa
Campbell, Katie Rathwell and Jen-
nifer McGree-Angels.
Once the manger scene formed, the
Sunday School students came for-
ward and placed either their gift
wrapped In white or their donation for
the Mission and service fund at the
front of the church. Tara Pepper and
Scott Gould then read the dedication
prayer for the gifts. Following this,
Mr. ;eorge Cowan gave a few words
of thai...s to the people who had work-
ed
orked the hardest to make the program.
a success. Then, as the collection was
being taken up, Derick McGee played
some very beautiful Christmas tunes
on the piano. It is obvious that his
talents will come into use again at
some point during our church year.
After the singing of the hymn "Joy
to the World", Jeff and Scott Reid
came forward to read the Prayeeof
Thanksgiving. The service Concluded
with the singing of "Hark the Herald
Angels Sing" and the benediction by
Mr. Cowan.
The sanctuary had been beautiful-
ly decorated in a manner reflective of
the centennial of the church building.
The very beautiful Christmas tree
dominated the front of the church
with its old-fashioned trimmings in
great evidence. The ladies of the
U.C.W. are to be commended for
their hard work. The decorating for
the pageant was ably done by Janis
Bisback who carefully ensured that
the Baby Jesus would have an ap-
propriate looking stable in which to
lie.
Pam Mallette and Debbie Collins
formed the costume committee which
made .some of the most authentic -
looking costumes that we have seen
for some time. The behind -the -scenes
work is always the hardest and many,
many teachers were involved with en-
suring that everything went
smoothly, and it did! The ushers
under the supervision of Lloyd
Ferguson also did a super job.
Students participating here were
Mary Taylor, Jaime McGee and
Jamie Brock. The program director,
Joanne Rowcliffe, was justifiably pro-
ud of the children.and was often heard
to say, "Well done!"
