Friday they dropped a :3-1 decision to the London Sabres and Sunday they lost 2-1 to Strathroy. After battling the Clinton Mustangs to a 5-5 draw at the rec centre, Fri- day, the locals bombed the Thedford Lumberjacks by an 11-5 margin in a road trip, Saturday. The three pionts pulled the Hawks to within three of the front -running Brussels Bulls, but the latter enjoy two games in hand. The locals are three points ahead of their namesakes from Mitchell. The'Exeter crew have a couple of tough opponents this week as they host their perennial foes from Lucan for the first and only time this season. That game is this -Friday at the rec centre. Sunday afternoon, the Hawks travel to Brussels for what could be their final shot at first place. The Hawks announced this week that defenceman Dale Timmerman and forwards Steve Gould and Scott Lovie will represent the team in the annual Junior "D" all-star game scheduled for Lucan on January 10. It was also noted that Scott Bogart will be lost to the team until mid January after suffering a broken col- lar bone in a game last week against Mt. Brydges. Rally For Tie .Friday night, the locals had to ral- ly for a tie with the visiting Mustangs as they continued to have trouble on home ice. Trailing 4-3 going into the third, the Hawks gave up a quick goal after 14 seconds to fall further behind. Jon O'Connor got that one back at the 2:15 mark and defenceman Dale Timmerman fired the equalizer with only 57 seconds left in the contest when he converted a pass from Dan Nairn. Jeff Ansems, George Pratt and Nairn scored the other markers, the latter's coining on the only successful powerplay recorded by Exeter. Nairn and Scott Lovie had two assists each, with singles going to Mark Morrissey, Dave Cassone and Jeff Reid. Brad Bender worked between the pipes and recorded 22 saves, while former Hawk Marty Merner had 19 for the Mustangs. Clinton scored twice with a man ad- vantage and added one on a short= handed effort as the Hawks sat out 55 minutes in penalties compared to the 40 for Clinton. Bomb Lumberjacks In Thedford, Saturday, the Hawks trailed 4-3 early in the second and then reeled off five consecutive $tratf.rd big winner in annual Lucai Cup The Stratford Chiefs were the big winners in the seventh edition of the Lucan Cup Challenge held at the Lucan Community Centre' on the weekend. The Stratford club won .four straight games to take home the Lucan Cup and $5,000 in cash. The 'B' championship good for a first. prize of $1,500 was won by the Aurora Saints. The Chiefs from Stratford edged Kitchener 4-3, downed Bann Con- struction 5-2 and Sarnia 5-2 before defeating the Oshawa Redwings 8-5 in the championship final. To get'to the final Oshawa defeated Black Creek( 8-4, the defending champs from Fort Erie 7-2 and Kord of Michigan 5-2. Mike Carr with a three goal effort led the Stratford club in the final. In their first game win over Kitchener Darrell Christo, Dave Randerson, Jim Uniac and Mike Carr were the goal getters. In the next two Stratford wins by identical scores of 5-2, Dave Rander- son scored two goals in each contest. Getting one goal apiece were Ken Chisholm, John Mavity, Nelson Turn- bull, Brian Richardson, John Stainton and Mike Carr. Grant Musselman was the scoring star for Oshawa. Bantams get win ,The Eketer bantams scored a Shamrock hockey league victory over Strathroy Wednesday, by a score of 5-3 and Saturday dropped an exhibition 4-1 to Seaforth. In the win over Strathroy the Ex- eter scoring was well spread with five players sharing in the scoring.
