Grsuduatlon for Baby Band hold at Thames Road YC
Ry MRS. WILLIAM RONDE
Twenty-one ladies and children at-
tended the annual baby band party in
the church basement Saturday after-
noon. Mrs, Rick Parker welcomed
everyone and told of the newcomers
of the Cradle Roll Jessica Bray, Jen-
nifer Matheson and Sarah Miller.
- Mrs. Parker read a poem "Life's
Garden. Away -In A Manger was
sung, Mrs. Barry E. Miller told the
story of Jesus birthday. Roll call was
answered with the children presen-
ting their offering. Mrs. Parker led in
prayer.
Mrs. Miller conducted the grandua-
tion ceremonies. Those graduating
were Erin Parker, Lori Richardson
and Kdthy Rohde, and Mrs. Gerry
Morgan welcomed the three girls to
the Messenger group. When Mothers
of Salem was sung, Mrs. Parker and
Mrs. Miller are the leaders of the
Baby Band. Lunch was then served.
Church service
The first Sunday in Advent church
service was in charge of Rev. Robert
Matheson. He lit the candle of Peace
in the Advent Wreath and told the
children's story entitled "Looking
Ahead: Being Vigilant."
The Scripture lesson was read from
Isaiah 2:1-5, Romans 13:11-14, Mat-
thew 24' 36'44. The choir sang "Jesus
Lives Again" accompanied by the
organist Miss. Agnes Bray. The
meditation was entitled "A Crossing
Ahead - Stop: Look: Listen!"
Even• today, as in this passage of
Scripture, the world of politics and the
world of the Christian faith collide
when world citizens discuss the issue
of peace.
Where exactly is it we are called to
go in order to make peace a reality?
Our passage from Isaiah is a classic
discourse on peace. We can perceive
this passage as an indictment on our
world - it is one which describes our
inabililty as human beings to achieve
a true and lasting peace.
We read it this morning in contrast
to the death of the Salt Treaty brought
about by a choice of the United States
government. We see it in contrast
with the continued arming of the Con-
tras in South American who do battle
with an elected governement in
Nicaragua and yet these same
soldiers supposedly fight for
democracy.
The elders served communion to
the congregation.
