Chicken pox
is prevalent
Sy MRs. HESER DAVIS
Sointsbury
Many of die area school pupils are
suffering from chicken pox.
Mrs. Nadine Bedell and Mrs. Hazel
Davis attended "the workshop on The
New Book of Alternative Services"
held at St. Pauls Church, Stratford.
In last week's paper in the report of
the family gathering of the Tindalls'
it was Mrs. Charles Tindall that was
hostess. Sorry about the error.
Holy Communion service was held
with Reverend F. Braby in charge
and Rose Cunningham as Server,
Mary Davis read the lessons.
Next Sunday being the fifth Sunday
of the month there will be one service
in the Parish, of Ct.. Pauls, Kirkton at
11 a.m. The first Sunday in December
service is planned for 8:30 a.m.,
Mr. and Mrs. Ron Cunningham,
April and Tom of Mar, spent the
weekend with Mrs. Cunningham's
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Tindall.
They entertained their parents to
dinner at a London restaurant Satur-
day evening at they were celebrating
their 29th wedding anniversary, Sun-
day. Robert joined them also.
Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Carroll spent
the weekend at the Royal Winter
Fair, Toronto.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Beaune and Kel-
ly, London were Sunday guests with
Joan's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim
Barker. Joan is at her home, having
spent 11 weeks in hospital. Con-
gratulations on the birth of
Christopher Robert.

your neck, it isn't easy to think of
anything to say that is so 'in-
significant that it could be inter-
rupted in mid -sentence when one
of the conversationalists has to
make a hasty getaway. So to
avoid the pain of fragmented
dialogue there is silence.
Except for the compulsive
whistler. Did you ever encounter
him (he is almost always a
man)? He doesn't really whistle,
he just breathes a tune, usually
half a note off key. His repertoire
is modest often restricted to a
single measure from Waltzing
Mathilda. And then there is the
nervous key rustler, the coin clat-
terer (who tosses the coins inside
his pocket), and the finger tap-
per. And here is Peter's third
elevator law: "When you get a
compulsive whistler and finger
tapper in the same elevator, their
rhythms always conflict."
Even more annoying in an
elevator than these sound effects
specialists, is the woman who has
just spilled half a bottle of 4711
down her decollete or the man
wearing an after -shave strong
enough to kill a bull musk-ox. I
discovered once that I can hold
my breath for seven floors, with
the door opening and closing
twice in betWecn.
Do you think elevators can
teach us something about human
behaviour? Perhaps somewhere
a researcher is writing a doctoral
thesis on elevator habits. Who
knows? If stairs wouldn't make
my knees wobble, I'd stay out of
elevators. They give me the
creeps. They make me feel like a
sardine in a can, like a trapped
bird.
The next time somebody asks
me what I like about living in the
country, I'll recite all the usual
wonderful things I enjoy, and
then I'll add: "And the freedom
from elevators."

Give to Christmas Seals today
Don't let that envolope containing
Christmas Seals remain on the mail
desk – open the envelope ,or, if you
have opened it, put this year's
beautiful seals to use now -- and send
in your donation today. "Each dona-
tion is urgently needed, " says Betty
Hunter, executive director of the
Huron -Perth Association.
The funds received go back into
your community to help in many
ways. For example, the Family
Asthma program benefits each
member of the family. Betty says
there is a noticeable difference in the
families after attending -the program.
They seem more confident -- able t6
cope with their asthmatic child.
