Mohawks get only one point,
The Exeter Mohawks could pick up
only one point in two starts this
weekend in the Ontario Hockey
Association Senior 'B' Central Divi-
sion and dropped into a third place tie
with Hillsburg.
At home Saturday
night, the
Mohawks were held to a 4-4 tie by the night they are back to the friendly
Harriston Blues and Sunday with a
shorthanded crew lost 7-4 to the New
Hamburg Towers.
Action this week has the Mohawks
in Tavistock Saturday night with a
starting time pf 9p.m. and Sunday
confines of the South Huron Rec Cen•
tre to meet the Palmerston 67's. .

Saturday night's draw with Bar-

Hawks remain in second,
at home to Brussels, Friday
The Exeter Hawks managed only
one point in two weekend home
games and find themselves with a
precarious one -point lead in their bat-
tle for second spot in the northern
division.
Mitchell and Clinton have pulled in-
to a tie for third, just one point behind
the locals, who have managed only
two points in their last five outings.
After losing to the southern division
basement dwelling Thedford squad on
Friday, the Hawks had to come from
behind to post a 5-5 draw with Mit-
chell, Sunday.
The locals were in Seaforth last
night (Tuesday) for a game v.•ith the
Centenaires and on Friday they host
the northern division leading Brussels
Bulls. On Sunday, they travel to Clin-
ton to tackle the Colts and then play
in Mitchell the following Tuesday.
Lose To Lumberjacks
In Friday's 6-5 loss to Thedford, the
Hawks fell behind 5-3 after two
periods and their third period rally
fell one goal short of knotting the
count.
The difference in the game was the
potent Lumberjack power play. The
visitors scored four of their markers
with a man advantage as the Hawks
sat out 10 of the 16 minor penalties
called in the tilt.

Broncos ride to victory
The Exeter Broncos enjoyed a suc-
cessful week with a pair of wins m
atom division exhibition play as they
blanked Dorchester 4-41 and swept
past Seaforth by a score of 7-1.
The Broncos are now unbeaten in
their last five starts and also
undefeated at home with five wins
and a tie in six starts al the South
Huron Rec ('entre.
In the win over Dorchester Dar-
ren Kints was in goal to gain the
shutout while Joel Campbell paced
the scoring attack with a three goal
effort. The other successful shot came
from the stick of tan .lean. Sean
McCann picked up the only two Ex-
eter assists.
It was Derek Beckett's turn to pick
up a hat trick, as the Broncos van-
quished Seaforth 7-1. Joel Campbell
was close behind with a pair of goals
and single goals were notched by
Sean McCann and Paul Charrette.
Jon O'Connor paced the Exeter at-
tack with two goals, while Steve
Gould, George Pratt and Jeff Reid
added singles. Scott Bogart helped out
on a pair of tallies and single assists
were recorded by Pratt, Jim Lewis,
Jeff Ansems, Bryan Quinn, Jeff
Dalrymple, Gould, Dan Nairn and
Mark Morrissey.
Brad Bender worked the first two
periods between the pipes and record-
ed 15 saves and Derek Switzer replac-
ed him in the thirdkami turned -aside
nine of the 10 shots he faced. . ,
Randy Livingston had 10 saves in
each period for the Thedford crew.
Rally For Tie
Mitchell came to town on Sunday to
renew the battle between the
namesakes and appeared to have the
game well in hand after scoring ear-
ly in the third to take a 5-2 lead.
However, the home crew came
back with three unanswered tallies in
the final frame to earn one point.
Jon O'Connor continued his prolific
scoring as he notched a natural hat
trick by scoring the first three goals
for Exeter, giving him five for the
weekend.
Scott Bogart had a single and
George Pratt notched the equalizer at
the 10:39 mark of the final stanza.
Jeff . Dalrymple was the top
playmaker for Exeter with two
assists. Adding singles were O'Con-
nor, Pratt and Gould.
Derek Switzer recorded 21 saves for
Exeter, while Jeff Redfern and Steve
Stapleton combined to turn aside 32
shots for Mitchell.
Both teams served 11 minors and
Mitchell scored the only powerplay
marker of the game.
Waxers lose
pair of games
at home Sunday to Palmerston
The Exeter Waxers were on the los-
ing end of two novice hockey games
played this week. In regular
Shamrock league action they were
edged 7-6 by the London Sabres and
dropped a 11-4 exhibition decision to
Dorchester.
Despite the loss to the London
Sabres, the Waxers came up with
their best effort of the season as the
oppositon scored three times in the
last five minutes of play.
The Waxers led 2-i after the first
period of play on unassisted goals by
Marty DeBruyn and Ben Guenther.
The only Exeter goal of the middle
frame was notched by Chris Lerikos
on a pass from Adam Jean and the
score was even at 3-3.
Chris Lerikos registered two of the
three third period markers for the
Waxers on passes provided by Chris
McDonald and Ben Guenther. The
other score was fired by Marty
DeBruyn on a solo effort.
DeBruyn paced the Waxers with a
two goal performance in the loss to
Dorchester. Single goals were notch-
ed by Brent Urlin and Jeff Sararas.
Lerikos and DeBruyn gained the on-
ly assists.
Brian Richardson turned in an
outstanding effort on defence for the
Waxers.
Tweens lose
In a recent girls ringette game in
Seaforth, the Exeter tweens dropped
a 7-4 decision to the home team.
Julia Merner and Giselle Charrette
each scored two goals to take care of
the Exeter scoring. They also each
added an assist as did Becci
Farquhar.

The Mohawks -jumped into a 2-1
first period lead as John Jongeneel
scored on a three-way passing com-
bination with Al Gates and Scott Ec-
cles at 8.55 and with 58 seconds left
Pete Tuckey converted a pass from
Kris Bedard. Darren Foerter was the
first Harriston marksman.
The scoring situation was reversed
in the second 20 minutes of play as
Kerry Barber and Wayne Adams
registered for the opposition and
Brian Mercer registered for the
Mohawks on passes. from Pete
Tuckey and Doug Latta.
The Mohawks moved in front at the
three minute mark of the third period
on a successful shot by Bill.Glover
with the assist going to Cam Doig.
Only two minutes, later Darren
Foerter scored for Harriston to knot
the score again and that's the way it
• stayed the rest of the way as Exeter
goalie Rick PikW and Ray Brownlee

In the first period, Joe Scherer and
Millar scored to give the Towers a 2-0
lead.
The second period was only 39
Pee wees lose
two in Shamrock
The Exeter pee wees came up with
two excellent team efforts this week,
but could gain only one win in regular
Shamrock league play.
They blanked the London Sabres 2.0
and lost 6-4 to St. Marys with the final
goal going into an empty net.
Excellent goal tending by Shawn
McFalls and good backchecking led
to the impressive win over a strong
London club.
Penalties played a part in both Ex-
eter goals. David Sch*indt converted
a pass from Joel Campbell while his
team was playing a man short and
Jason Heywood took advantage 'of a
power play opportunity to score on a
pass from Jeff Burton.
Exeter penalties were harmful in
the loss to St. Marys. The winning
goal was one of three scored by St.
Marys on power play attempts.
Steve Dubarry was in a good scor-
ing mood as he accounted for all of the
scoring for the hags. Assists went to
Jasoq Hern, Jrens and Jamie
CornSh.
SH volleyball
team plays well
The SHDHS junior boys volleyball
team ended up fifth out of six teams
in the Huron -Perth tournament,
Wednesday.
Coach Scott Halpenny was very
pleased with the way the team played
in the tournament. The Panthers split
games with Goderich, Wingham and
Mitchell and lost two close games
with Clinton and also with Stratford
Central.
Overall the team ended up fifth in
Huron -Perth out of 13 teams.

four minute mark, each team added
to their goal total. Mike Clark tallied
for the Mohawks with assists going to
Doug Latta and Steve Nelson while
Dave Millar replied for New
Hamburg.
Late in the middle frame, Ralph
Zehr and Terry Patterson put the
home team up by three goals.
At 15.33 of the third period, Pete
Tuckey registered his second goal of
the afternoon on a three-way passing
effort with Steve Nelson and Norm
Campbell. Only a minute later Dave
Millar put the Towers back in front by
three again with his third goal of the
day. '
The Mohawks came to life on a
power play at 18.15 with Mike Clark
scoring on a 'ass froth Barr
Baynham. They continued the
pressure•with a six man attack, but
it backfired with Rick Cressman scor-
ing into an empty net.
The only penalties assessed against
the Mohawks came at the 16.03 mark
of the final period as Steve Nelson of
Exeter was in a fight with Dave Lak-
ing of New Hamburg. Nelson will
miss one game as the agressor in the
fracas and Laking will be out for a
minimum of three games. He receiv-
ed two game misconducts.
Saturday night's game in Exeter
featured Ladies Night. The Mohawks
