Institute meets
at Clandeboye
Citizenship and World Affairs was
the topic for the November meeting
of the Clandeboye Women's Institute,
held at the home of Mrs. Alan Hill on
Wednesday afternoon.
Mrs. Roy Cunningham, convener,
gave a reading on Remembrance Day
and introduced the guest speaker,

Charlie explained his duties as
reeve and also the various offices and
committees of the township council as
well as the County Council. He show-
ed us on paper how our tax dollars are
spent and answered many questions.
His talk was very interesting and in-
formative. He presented each lady
with a McGillivray Township lapel
button.
Marion Hodgson then thanked
Charlie and presented him with a
small token of appreciation.
The roll call, "Name a local public
officer and the office he/she holds,
brought forth a lot of names, several
in our own community.
June Henry and Jean Hodgins gave
reports of the London Area Conven-
tion. Gifts for the Canadian Cancer
Society Christmas baskets were
brought to the meeting by the
members. Achievement Day for the
two Clandeboye 4H Homemaking

Thames Road Pentecost ' service
regular church service on Sunday,
By MIK. WILLIAM ROHDE
The 24th Sunday After Pentecost
Church Service was the charge of
Rev. Robert Matheson. Rev.
Matheson told the children's story
"Will We Ever Be Ready?" The
Scripture Lesson was read from
Malachi 4:1-6,2 Thessalonians 3'6-13,
and Luke 21:15-19. The sermon was
entitle "Framing Our Minds".
There are on-going studies looking
at the lives of twins to see what has
more effect on us - the traits we in-
herit from our 'parents - the world
around us - our environment. Our
three Scripture lessons speak of how
we use what we have inherited from
God as we interract with the world
around us.
I believe all of our passages tell us
not to make excuses about things we
claim to be beyond our control. We
cannot say we knew something we did
was wrong but went ahead and did it
anyway because it was the only way
we had been taughtto do things! We
are responsible for our own actions.
We cannot be like Flip Wilson in his
old television series who used to say,
"The devil made me do it!"
All of the Scripture passages speak
of refining our actions - much as
metal is refined in foundries. It is
always up to us to work on our lives
to meet the standards for living God
through Christ has set for us.
While we cannot lay the blame for
our wrong actions on the head of
anyone else - surely the credit for all
our right, just, and loving actions
belong to God and Christ for it is
through God we learn how to interract
with our environment and other peo-
ple properly.

Mrs. Lucie Milne conducted Sun-
day's church service when the junior
choir sang I've Got the Joy, and
Somebody Touched Me, with Carol
Ann Scott at the organ. Mrs. Milne
told the children a parable about a
turtle's search for safety, telling how
he lost his shiny, furry coat and his
speed, and became the slowest and
the dullest and the safest animal in
the forest.
In her sermon she spoke on the
meaning of ministry, comparing to-
day's meaning to that in the days of
Peter. She closed with the question,
"Do we need to change the traditional
ministry of the church just as Peter
listened to God and was the first to
minister to the Gentiles.
Clerk of session, Jean Carey, read
a letter from the Knox College
Restoration Fund chairman commen-
ding the Cromarty congregation for
being the first in Stratford -Huron
Presbytery to reach its allocation. A
certificate of recognition was
presented to the church for com-
pleting its share of the restoration
expenses.
Following Sunday's service a con-
gregational pot luck dinner was held
in honour of the Rev. Kenneth and
Mrs. Knight who are leaving. Follow-
ing the meal, they were presented
with a set of nesting tables and a
photo by Sarah Elliott and Leanne
Gardiner.
Tom Scott spoke briefly and replies
were made by both Ken and Aileen
Knight. Since it was also Mr. Knight's
birthday, Happy Birthday was sung
and he was presented with a
decorated cake. The remainder of the
