Lucan wins in oldtimers tourney
The Lucan Irish Flyers, Sarnia Old
Oilers and London Doughboys were
winners in the three divisions of the
weekend oldtimers hockey tourna-
ment sponsored by the Exeter
Molting Hawks.
Lucan won the 'D' title with a 3-2
SWAT SWEEPS
The Swat team was the only one to
score a five point sweep in Friday's
regular action in theExeter Legion
mixed dart league.

Firebirds. Earlier they had blanked
the same team 1-0. In other games the
Irish lost 5-4 to the London Old Indians
and edged the Clinton Fleming Fowl -
Ups 3-2.
The Dough Boys won the 'F' crown
with a 4-0 win over the London Blues
and the Sarnia Old Oilers downed the
St. Thomas Photo 60 club 3-1 to take
'E' honours.
The other area team in the tourna-
ment was the Hensall oldtimers. They
defeated Dorchester 7-3 and lost 7-0 to
Sarnia and 9-5 'to the St. Thomas
team.
In the 'D' final, Brian Haskett of
Lucan was the only one of five players
from each team to score in the
sudden -death shootout. In regulation
play, Bill Darling and Gary Rev-
ington scored for Lucan.
Bill Bannerman converted a pass
from Barry Wilkes to account for the
only goal in the semi-final 1-0 Lucan
win over the same Firebirds.
Gord Hardy, Stan McNiff and Bob
Hardy were the Irish marksmen in
the win over Clinton. Scoring for the
losers were Dean Reid and Harvey
Carter.
Scoring for the Irish in the loss to
the Old Indians were Norm Mid-
daugh, Bob Hardy, Stan McNiff and
Bill Bannerman.
In the Hensall victory over Dor-
chester, Les Gardiner and Lowell
Mount each fired two successful
shots. Scoring in single fashion were
Larry Gould, Derek Martin and L.
Brintnell. '
Agaisnt St, Thomas, Martin scored
three times for Hensall and Brintnell
and Gardiner each added singles.

It was tricks rather than treats for
the Exeter Mohawks Friday night as
they tried to celebrate Halloween in
Elora.
The result was a 6-0 loss to the
Elora Rocks in a regularly schedul-
ed OHA Senior 'B' contest. Sunday
night, the Mohawks had troubles in
the last minute of each of the three
periods as they were held to a 7-7 tie
by the Harriston Blues at the South
Huron Rec Centre.
This week the Mohawks will be in
Palmerston at 8 p.m., Saturday night
to take on the 81's and Sunday night
will be at home v ,th the Hillsburgh
Royals supplying ttte opposition.
In Elora Friday night, the
Mohawks lost starting goalie Rick
Pikul as he was the third man in on
a fight. He was replaced by Scott
McNair. Pikul is suspended for two
games as is Bryan Baker who drew
two major penalties on the same stop-
page of play.
The first four goals for the Rocks,
one in the opening session and three
in the middle frame came with the
Mohawks enjoying a one man
advantage.
• Don Dauman led the Elora scoring
with a two goal effort. Scoring in
single fashion were Gord Hutchison,
Chet Couture, Larry MacDougall and
Morley Bosomworth.
In Sunday's contest in Exeter, Bill
Berfelz of Harriston scored at the 52

minutes later, Al Gates evened the
score for the Mohawks as he con-
verted passes from Norm Campbell
and Pay Cyr.
Later in the period, it was Campbell
firing a successful shot with assists
going to Gates and John Jongeneel
and Bernie Haines replied for the
Blues.
Irish wins
In their only Junior 'D' start this
week, the Lucan Irish scored a con-
vincing victory over the Thamesford
Trojans by a score of 8-1.
'The Lucan club remains in second
place in the southern division, two
points back of the leading Belmont
Bombers, but have three games in
hand.
Three league games face the Irish
this week. Tonight, Wednesday they
will be at home at the Lucan Com-
munity Centre at 8:15 p.m. and then
it's on the road to Thamesford Friday
night and Thedford, Sunday.
The Irish scored four times in the
first period and were well on the way
to victory. The game was only a
minute old when captain Rob
Thirlwall converted a pass from Ian
Craig.
The next two scores for Lucan
came within 18 seconds of each near
the 14 minute mark. Paul Barnes hit
on a three-way pasing combination
with Ian Craig and Bob Thrilwall and
Mark Bannen and Dean Schram pro-
vided the passes for Brad Muir's suc-
cessful shot.
In the last minute of the period
Wayne Urbshott took a pass from Joe
Febrey and beat the Trojan
netminder.
Bob Thrilwall and Joe Febrey were
the Irish marksmen in the middle
stanza with assists going to Ian Craig,
Rob Hardy and Brad Hodgins.
In the final 20 minutes of action,
Wayne Urbshott tallied on an
unassisted effort and teamed up with
Brad Hodgins to help Joe Febrey
count his second score of the night.

The SHDHS junior girls basketball
team ended off their season, Tuesday,
with a loss to Stratford Central. The
score was 32-22 with high scorer
Spring Cushman gaining six points.
Cassie VanDongen played extreme-
ly well all season with 251 points in 23
games. The second high scorer was
Christine Rose with 79 points. Another
top scorer for the team was Liz Mol
who had an average of 66 percent of
making her free throws.
In the second period the Mohawks
scored three unanswered goals in a
span of two minutesnear the midway
mark.
Scott Eccles who turned in a strong ,
effort all night long, notched two of
the quick scores. One came as he con-
verted a pass from Al Gates and the
other on a passing combination with
Gates and Barry Baynham.
The other goal came from the stick
of Mike Clark on assists provided by
Brian Mercer and Pat Cyr.
Randy Casparie scored two of the
three middle frame goals for Har-
riston. The other was notched by cap-
tain Bob Reid.
The third period was only a minute
old when Barry Richardson of the
visitors tied the score at 6-6.
That's the way the score remained
until 18:23 when Scott Eccles
registered his third goal of the night
on passes from Barry Baynham and
Norm Campbell to give the Mohawks
an apparent win.
This was not to be as Mark Leslie
of Harriston beat Pete Parsons in the
Exeter net with only 31 seconds left
to give each team one point for their
night's work.
