SUMMERS At St. Thomas Anglican Church the Rev. Frank Braby was the celebrk at for the holy Eucharist service, assisted by John Herbert as server. Mrs. Joe French was the organist. The two lessons were read by Ken- neth Hoarand the holy gospel by the rector. Rev. Braby preached his sermon from the holy gospel and the second lesson on "All Saints day". The ACW bazaar will be held on Saturday, November 8 from 2 to 4 p.m. Next Sunday the service will be held at 8:30 a.m. 4-H News - The sixth meeting of the "Butter- milk Beauties" 41i club was held at the Community Bible Church on Oc- tober 30. This meeting was in the form of a cheese party. We invited the Granton Women's Institute and mothers of the 4-1i members and one friend of each member. - All members attended and brought one kind of cheese and a dish of food that had cheese as a main product. When everyone had arrived, the By MRS. HUGH MORENZ The Milk Shakers 4H club of Grand Bend II met at Joan Love's on Oc- tober 27. Roll call was answered by telling something you have learned about dairy products during this project. We discussed the different food groups and how milk fats are needed for a balanced diet, and how to judge a good menu. We made plans for Achievement night tirobewSield November 25 at Exeter Public School at 7:30. We ate raspberry sherbet for lunch and adjourned the meeting. Personals Visiting Saturday with Beverley and John Keller, Sherri -Lynn and Stephen, were two of Beverley's sisters, Barbara and Gerald Higdon and son Scotty, and Donna and Bill Burnett, all of Rothsay. Quite a number from the Shipka and Greenway area attended the 59th anniversary services at Grand Bend United Church, Sunday, when Rev. Stan Desjardine; a returned mis- sionary from Tanzania was the mor- ning guest speaker, and in the even- ing showed slides with commentary on his work in Africa. Stan is a local young man, having been born and raised and had his early schooling in this area. Presently. Stan and his wife Pat and their children Karen. Bethany and Danny, are residing in Grand Bend, after being on the mis- sion field in Tanzania for eight years. I thoroughly enjoyed their pictures of life and work in Africa, the animals, mountain and lake scenery.• flowers, fruit, field work, building churches and teaching the children. Pat showed us a native spear used in Africa. Willis and Ella Desjardine and Michelle Mabel, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Howard Turner. Grand Bend, and Marian Horner of Parkhill, attended the Circle K Old Time Fid- dlers Jamboree, Sunday, at Union- ville. Willis participated in the fiddl- ing accompanied by Marian at the piano. Visitors during the week and Sun- day with Hugh and 1 have been Elda Adams and Lorne and Loreen Devine, Grand Bend, Elizabeth Norris, Grand Cove, Bill Morenz, London, Henry and Annie Becker. Zurich. Since our frame barn burned last June 20, we have built a smaller steel barn that is now completed, ready to occupy some cattle this winter. Midgets lose to Thamesford The Exeter Kinsmen Generals dropped a 7-6 decision to Thamesford in a Shamrock midget hockey game Wednesday night. The first period was all even with each team scoring two goals. Darryl McCann and Bill Vanderworp were the Exeter marksmen with assists go- ing to Bryan Quinn. Steve Watson. captain Tiin Moore and Bill Vanderworp. After Thamesford had moved ahead 5-2 early in the second period. the Generals came roaring hack with three goals of their own. Firing the successful shots were Paul Mellecke, ,lim Dickens and Bill Vandeworp. Providing assists were Darryl McCann, Jeff Dalrymple and Jim Dickens. The final Exeter goal came from the stick of Jeff Kinis in the third period on a pass from Bryan Quinn. guests played games which the members made up. When this was done we all sat down to eat and visit. When we finally finished eating, we played a few games of "Milko" which is a variation of bingo. We also had a few more skill testing questions on dairy products. We would like to thank the Com- munity Bible Church for letting us hold the meeting, all the guest who came and Mavis and Deanna for leading us. Vickie Hodgins, secretary Granton Church News At Granton United Church, the Rev. Bruce Pierce was in charge of the morning worship and officiated for the sacrament of baptism for Cassan- dra Rose Aldrich. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Randy Aldrich. The Rev. Pierce took the text for his sermon from the scripture lesson tak, n from II Peter Chapter 3 verses 1 to 18, and entitled his message "I Challenge You". "The church is be- ing destroyed inside and outside in an increasing measure", the minister said: This is happening in the church today. Everything begins with faith and virtue. Beware of self teachers and we should be prepared for Jesus second coming. Gang News The members of the Happy Gang met in the United Church basement on Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. Clayton Langford presided and open- ed the meeting with an inspirational reading. Mrs. Charlotte Kerr was welcomed back after her illness and will hopefully preside for next meeting which will be a dinner meeting at Granton restaurant. A sing along was enjoyed with Mrs. Letha Dunlop at the piano. The pro- -gram was based on Hallowe'en stories, poems and readings. At the conclusion of the meeting a few hands of euchre were enjoyed and a tasty lunch served. Personal Sincere sympathy is extended to the family of the late Austin Hobbs, a former resident of Granton, widower of the late Sadie Hobbs, who passed away after a lengthy illness at Kingsway Nursing Home in St. , Marys. T -A photo. • Tlg.r Three... �. SeeiMral Grades four and five worked on a Pig Unit. The Pig Unit lasted about three weeks and on the first day saw a filmstrip. The classes were ograniz- ed by number groups. The activities were held in room five and six and one activity was in the hall. Some of the activities were called Tickled Pink. Hogwash, and it's a Boar. My favourite activity was Tickled Pink because we had to tell about somebody we know who was tickled Pink. - Carrie Wilhelm. Rooms five and six put a piggy display in the front showcase in the main entryway. The display was call- ed PIGAPIIERNALiA. Some of the items were pig books. a game called pigmania and some stuffed pigs. The people that brought the items were Jyason Schultz. Sarah Beatty, Ryan Taylor. Lisa Morlock. Carla Taylor. Lorna Miller, Gail Brownlee and Kyla Werrett. PiGAPHARNALiA was on display for the month of September. - Kim Hagle. Each class listened to the novel of Charlotte's Web. E B. White wrote the novel of Charlotte's Web. Ms. Thom- son and Mrs. Deelstra read the books to•lheir classes. Both classes saw the movie of Charlotte's Web after the book was read. - Heather Hutchinson. We met down at the gym after the film.Each groupwent on a scavenger hunt. We'pretended to he Templeton the Rat. Elizabeth Russell, Ryan 'Taylor. Murray McKay and Kevin King. We had a piggy race after that. The two winners were ('am Sweiger and Rochelle Allen. Their prize was a pig for their shirt and to be the first ones to get their hotdogs. We had our pignic in the gym. We ate hotdog's and the rest of our lunch -Cathy Wagner. liid Alan know that... When the pig is butchered all the parts of it are used. t'igs are smarter than dogs. Arnold Ziffel was the name of the pig on the T.V. show Green Acres. Some breeds of pigs are Spot ted Poland China, Yorkshire, Duroc, Hampshire, and Berkshire. A gilt is a female pig that hasn't had a litter of piglets. Pigheaded means stub - horn.
