The principal of the school, Margaret Medve, wrote a letter to the board on October 15 requesting per- mission to register pupils who will have their fifth birthdays between January 1 and July 1, -1987. They would enter school on January 5 to at- tend with the kindergarten class which is taught by Anna Marie Cook. In September 1987 these pupils would be registered in kindergarten. She wrote that the beginnings class wold accommodate those ten children with birthdates after December 30 whose parents have inquired about registration. She said other parents have indicated that they would prefer to place their children in a Catholic school system rather than maintain- ing them in the non-sectarian n4rsery school for an additional year. Mrs. Medve said community sources have suggested that the enrolment of prac- tising Catholic families who are regular parishioners of Precious Blood Mission might increase if this opportunity was made available. Mrs. Medve wrote: "that our objec- tive is to raise the profile of this school (Precious Blood School) in order to enhance public awareness of our programs." Mrs. Medve stated present kindergarten enrolment is nine pupils and in 1987 projected enrolment is 14 pupils and the projected beginners class enrolment is 10 pupils. She pointed out that the school has ade- quate space and equipment and bus accommodation. At the next meeting the board will develop a policy to specify the criteria under which a pupil is eligible to at- tend the beginners class. In a memorandum to separate school supporters on their new rights and responsibilities, the Huron -Perth board stated that beginning 1987, Separate School supporters for the first time in history will pay education taxes for Catholic secondary school purposes to the Separate School board rather than the Public School board from kindergarten through grade 13. These ratepayers are encouraged "to cherish and retain your rights to be a Separate School supporter, whether or not you have children in public secondary school or no children in either an elementary or secondary school." At the last meeting of the board a steering committee was formed to further investigate the feasibility of Catholic Secondary education in Huron County and report findings by March 1, 1987. Monday the board named three parents to serve on the committee -- Jane Gillespie of St. Joseph; Louise Martin of Kingsbridge and Jack Flanagan of RR 1 Dublin, after the trustees changed their minds and named three rather than two parents. Two pastors are yet to be named. Youth dies from injury A 16 -year-old McGillivray township youth died in University Hospital Fri- day as the result of a recent motor vehicle accident. Patrick Phipps was the passenger in a vehicle driven by Brian Topp, RR 3 Ailsa Craig which was in collision with a pickup truck driven by Nor- man Lewis, RR 3 Ailsa Craig on Mid- dlesex road 24, 1.5 kilometres west of Highway 4 on October 14.
