E. Pooley branch Legion at the group's 35th an- niversary party at the Legion hall, Saturday. She outlined a long list of donations that have been made to the communi• - ty and veterans during her review and much of that funding came from banquets served by the Auxiliary dur- ing the past 35 years. "It's really great to sit back and en- joy ourselves and not have to serve or do the dishes after," she commented. The banquet was put on by a group of Kirkton ladies. Branch president Jack Brintnell was among the head table guests and noted that a lot of Legion branches would fold up if it wasn't for the work of their Auxiliaries. He commended the members for their long, long hours of hard work in making this community a better place in which to live. "Keep it up, we need you," he challenged. Zone commander Mary Hawn also congratulated the Auxiliary for their "wonderful work", saying she was very proud of the ladies. During the evening, past presidents were introduced and 11 of the 47 charter members were on hand to receive their 35 -year pins. Their photo appears elsewhere. Receiving 30 -year pins were Cora Wurm and Evelyn Rubery; 25 years, Olive Ferguson, Bernice Shipman, Marg Wragg, Shirley Wright, Mary Thompson and Edna Reeves; 10 years, Janice Morris. Chairing the banquet was president Esther Hillman, who has served in that capacity on three different occasions. In her history review, Mrs. Pfaff noted that of the 30 presidents who have served, none has been lost to the great reaper. She termed the first five years as possibly the hardest but the group moved forward because "we were all young, ambitious and adventuresome." At that time the kitchen at the hall was located in the basement and "running up and down those stairs was what kept our girlish figures in those days". Highlights of the donations made by the Auxiliary over the past 35 years are as follows: 1953—$800 to South Huron Hospital; 1954 --TV set for Westminster Hospital and cigarettes and birthday parties for veterans at the hospital; 1955 --another TV for Westminster; 1956-41,000 to Branch for Auxiliary room; 1957—$250 to SHH nurses' residence; 1958 --banquet tables and furniture for Auxiliary rooms; 1959--$250 bursary for SHDHS and $500 to Branch; 1960-4600 for equipp- ing kitchen to cater to 400 people; 1961—mother of pearl pins for 10 -year CHARTER MEMBERS — Eleven of the 47 charter members of the Ladies Auxiliary to the R.E.
