Manitoba visitors at Croniarty

Mrs. Richard Dow, Killarney,
Manitoba, visited last week with Mr.
and Mrs. Gordon Scott. On
Thanksgiving weekend the Scotts had
as their guests Mr. and Mrs. Lorne
Splane and family, St. Thomas, An-
na and Frances Scott, London, Mr.
and Mrs. Reg Finlayson, Staffa.
Alex and Marilyn Zimmer and
family, Stratford Jeff and Margaret
Allen, Guelph, Andrew Laing and
Helen Benninger, Toronto, Murray
Lions, Linda Charlton, and Carrie
Campbell, Clinton spent Thanksgiv-
ing Sunday with Bob and Ruth Laing
and Tom.
Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Allen had all
their family home for Thanksgiving
Sunday dinner.
Cromarty Presbyterian Church
was beautifully decorated with fruits,
vegetables, flowers, leaves and
candles for the Thanksgiving service,
Sunday morning. The junior choir
were in attendance for the first part
of the service and sang Thank You
God for Morning. Previous to the ser-
mon the senior choir sang Thanks to
God. The Rev. Kenneth Knight spoke
on the topic, Twice Blest, answering
the question, Why should we give
thanks?
The service October 19 was cancell-
ed so that members could have the
opportunity of hearing the Rev. Vic-
tor Jamieson of Brussels speak at the
anniversary service in Caven Church,
Exeter.
Cromarty Cubs, Scouts and
Beavers were blessed with sunshine
for their annual Apple Day drive.
Eight bushels of apples were purchas-
ed from Art Bell's Fruit Farm and
distributed under the leadership of
Sandra Kemp. Over $265. was
cleared, and the Scout organization
would like to thank those who sup-
ported them by buying apples.
At the South Hibbert Athletic Socie-
ty's family dance held in Dublin
recently, trophies were presented to
the most valuable and the most im-
proved palyer on each team. Receiv-
ing the Everard Kerslake Memorial
trophy for the most valuable players
on the team were Billy Van Bakel,
Jamie Brock, Shane Van Allen,
Chrissie Miller, Leanne Gardiner,
and Teresa Freestone.
The Roy Johns Memorial trophy for
the most improved player went to
Dana Worden, Sarah Elliott, Lisa
Gardinerm, Michael Dearing, Gerald
Kerslake and Danny Elliott
Pearl and Philip James, Lorne and
Sharon Fell, Bob and Ruth Laing and
Nelson Howe attended the Celidh in
Brussels, Saturday.

Zion Lutheran Ladies Aid held
Thanksgiving supper at the Dominion
Hotel in Zurich with husbands and
friends guests, Tuesday, October 14.
President Mrs. Nancy Rader welcom-
ed everyone and Pastor Mellecke said
grace. The visiting committee
reported 12 visits. The new visiting
committee is Mrs. Arnold Becker and
Mrs. Florence Martene.
Dues for November are $5. The
card secretary reported one birthday
card sent. The men thanked the ladies
for inviting them. A turkey supper
was enjoyed by all.

Dashwood and Area Business
association met Tuesday evening. It
was reported that the street signs
were completed. Letters will be sent
concerning lettering of house
numbers.
A new slate of officers for 1986-87
was elected: President - Peter
Becker; vice-president - Donna Hoff-
man; Secretary - Marilyn Zimmer;
Treasurer - Vesta Miller; Press
secretary - Helen Kleinstiver.
A discussion regarding future .pro-
jects ended the meeting.
WI Convention
London Area Women's Institute
72nd Annual Convention was held at
the Ukraina Country Club, London,
October 16 and 17. Those attending
from Dashwood were Mrs. Emil
Becker, Miss Sherrie Stade, Mrs.
Gloria Beierling and Mary Rader.
Rader Thanksgiving
Dave and Nancy Rader, Stacey,
Derick and Stephanie held a belated
Thanksgiving dinner for memebers of
the Rader family. Present for the oc-
casion were Fred and June Miller,
Brenda, Guelph, Charlotte, Stratford
and Karen; also David Skea, Hensall,
Paul and Susan Rader, Ben and
Robin, London, and Mary Rader.

Dashwood U.C.W. members
journeyed to the "Honey House" for
their October meeting. They were
warmly welcomed by Mrs. Rosemary
Ferguson who demonstrated her
cake -decorating talents. She used
Halloween as her theme and
decorated the cake with pumpkins
and coloured leaves. The finished pro-
duct was quite a work of art and most
delicious.
The World Outreach group was in
charge with Mrs. Don Gaiser
presiding. She shared with the ladies
some thoughts on Thankfulness.
The hymn "All Hail the Power of
Jesus' Name" was sung followed with
the scripture lesson from Ephesians
read by Mrs. Clayton Merrier. Prayer
was offered by Mrs. Alice Tieman.
The devotional portion of the meeting
closed by singing "Come Ye Thankful
People".
President Mrs. Don Gaiser con-
ducted the business. Reports were
read and approved. An invitation was
received from C.W.L. ladies of Our
Lady of Mount Carmel Church to at-
tend their bazaar on November 4.
The Sunshine committee for Oc-
tober is Mrs. Syd Neeb and Mrs. Bill
Chandler.
Personals
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Miller of
Taber, Alberta, visited with Melvin,
Gertie and Sherrie Stade for a week
after having enjoyed a Maritime tour
for 18 days.
Sunday, October 19 was a day of re-
joicing at Calvary United church as
they celebrated the 91st anniversary
in the church and the 134th of the
organized congregation. Guest
speakers were Rev. Merrill and Helen
James, Islington, a former minister
from 1961-68.

Hazel Cunningham, Jean Hodgins
and June Henry attended the London
Area Women's' Institute Annual Con-
vention, on Thursday and Friday,
held at the Ukrainian Country Club in
London.
An auction sale of property and
church contents for Clandeboye
United Church will be held at 9:30
a.m. on Saturday, November 1. A full
listing appearg elsewhere in this
paper.
A note from your Clandeboye cor-
respondent. Since I am. living in
Lucan now it makes it very difficult
to gather any Clandeboye news. I
don't particularly like .sending in
news of local visitors having dinner
with nearby relatives but if you have
visitors from afar or some news of
special interest, meetings, euchre
parties, etc., please contact me at

greeters were Michael and Karen
Tiernan.
Lunch was served by the U.C.W.,
during which Merrill and Helen spoke
about their family. John and Barbara
and their three children are in Mount
Forest United Church; Orville .and
Nancy and three children are at
Riverside United Church, London,
where Orville is assistant minister;
Paul and Carol and one son are at the
United Church, Wawa.
This past week the work has been
completed on the extended entrance
of the Calvary church. The spires
from the Main St., United Church, Ex-
eter, were relocated and placed on top
of Calvary church.
Rev. Robert Sinasac was guest
speaker at the morning anniversary
service at Bob's home church,
Kilworth United, which is just nor-
theast of Delaware. His family ac-
companied him.
A number of seniors from
Dashwood attended the Fall Rally at
Dungannon last Thursday.
