Lovie, Pratt and Bryan Quinn were moved to defence for the game and all three came up with steady perfor- mances to fill the void left by the suspensions to four • regular defencemen. This week, the Hawks will host -the usually physical Mt. Brydges Bulldogs at the rec centre. It will be the final home game for the locals un- til November 14 as they hit the road for three games and a weekend outing to coach Dave Bogart's former stom- ping grounds at Ohio University south at the border. The Exeter Hawks lost a game and five players on Friday night at the rec centre, but surprisingly were able to bounce back with a short-handed crew to beat the Colts in Clinton Sun- day afternoon to even their weekend record. Friday night, the Hawks hosted Seaforth and the Centenaires aveng- ed Tuesday's home loss with a 5-4 triumph, scoring the winner on a powerplay with 28 seconds left in the game. When the final whistle sounded, both benches cleared in a brawl that resulted in one -game fighting suspen- sions to Dale Timmerman, Steve Gould, Sean Whiteford, Jeff Pfaff and a "third man in" penalty to Mike Day who also had to sit out Sunday's match. Seaforth lost a similar number of players for their next outing along with coach Doug Anstett who picked up a game misconduct before the fracas was cleared up and the players ushered to their respective dressing rooms. After spotting Seaforth a one -goal lead in the first, the Hawks came roaring back to take a 4-2 lead by the mid -way mark of the third stanza, on- ly. to give up three straight tallies in the final nine minutes to suffer their second loss of the season. The final two Seaforth tallies came on powerplays. George Pratt, Steve McIntyre, Scott Lovie and Jeff Reid scored for the Hawks. Reid and Lovie picked up single assists as did Steve Gould, Jeff Pfaff, Dale Timmermans and Jon O'Connor. Brad Bender worked between the pipes and recorded 23 saves, while Todd Campbell had 27 for the Centenaires. Irish lose first game The undefeated record of the Lucan Irish in the 1986-87 OHA Western Junior "D" season came to an abrupt stop in Mount Brydges Sunday night. After holding Clinton to a 4-4 draw Wednesday nighton a goal in the final 20 seconds of play, the Irish rally Sun- day fell short and they lost to the Bulldogs 4-3. Three days of shuffleboard Competition was keen in the three days of shuffleboard action this week at the South Huron Rec Centre. Tuesday the high scorers for the men were Alf Hummell 542, Delmar Skinner 436 and Meine Eizenga 329 while the top lady scores were Jean Hern 410, Pearl McKnight 397 and Mabel McKnight 388. Wednesday the male scores were Bruce Watson 320, Tom yellow 303 and Delmar Skinner 292 while Pearl McKnight was tops for the ladies at 312 followed by Iva Blair 301 and Beatrice Richardson 299. Delmar Skinner with a score of 341 led the men in Thursday's play. Next came Steve Hrapchak 334 and Meine Eizenga 331. Olga Davis topped the ladies with 271. NOVICE TEAM WINS Exeter blanked Watford 3-0 in a Lambton-Middlesex novice houseleague hockey game, Sunday in Watford. Chad Gilfillan led the Exeter attack with a pair of goals and Ryan Beckett counted in single fashion. Getting assists were Bryce Hann and Robbie Turner. First time goalie, Andrew Hern was in the Exeter goal and gained a shutout. They came close to tying the score. Wayne Urbshott hit the Mount Brydges net just as the buzzer went and the referee ruled the game was atreaciy over. This week the Irish are at home to the Thedford Lumberjacks tonight, Wednesday at the Lucan Community Centre at 8:15 p.m. and Saturday night they travel to Belmont to meet the Bombers. Game Misconducts Two sets of serious altercations late in the second period resulted in referee Lee Richards ejecting nine players from each club with game misconduct penalties. In the first period, Dean Schram counted the only Lucan goal on a pass from Rob Hardy and in the middle frame Wayne Urbshott hit the Bulldogs net on a power play with the assist going to Paul Barnes and then combined with Dean Doerr to set up Schram for the final Lucan tally. The first period was all even with Terry Knowles registering for the Irish on a three-way passing com- bination with Paul Barnes and Glen Marshall whil Devon Colquhoun replied for Clinton. The Lucan club went ahead in the middle frame on successful shots by Dean Schram and Terry Knowles. Paul Barnes assisted on both scores and Dean Doerr helped on one. Ran- dy Marriage scored for Clinton. • In the third period, Dean Arm- strong and Derek Jefferson scored for Clinton before Thirlwall's tying goal with time running out. Referee Rick Singleton called a total of 14 minor penalties with eight going to the Irish and none affected the scoring.
