HEALTH FAIR
tes:y, Oct. 21 in Exeter
at South Huron District High School
Drop in anytime between noon and 8 p.m.
Most of us are born with food health. How many of us maintain it?
These are only a few Health Tips you will learn
TAKE CARE OF YOUR HEART
Heart disease affects all of us! It is the leading cause of death in Canada, accounting for
one-half of all deaths in 1982. Many risk factors influence heart health. Some, such as
increasing age, a family history of disease, or being male, can't be changed. But others
can be reduced or eliminated by changes in personal lifestyle and medical check-ups.
You may reduce your risk of heart disease if you:
qp don't smoke
eat a lbw fat diet
have your blood pressure checked
,t)SHOULD I WORRY
r ABOUT CHOLESTEROL?
•
A high level of cholesterol in the blood
has been associated with increased risk
of cardiovascular disease. It is a good
idea for adults to have their cholesterol
levels checked. Those with high levels
will be prescribed a cholesterol-lowering
regime by their doctor. Those with
normal cholesterol levels can help to
keep them that way with a moderate
total fat intake, plenty of dietary fibre,
regular exercise and no smoking.

CAFFEINE: TO SIP
OR NOT TO SIP?
SHAKING THE
SALT HABIT
IF YOU WANT TO REDUCE YOUR
SODIUM INTAKE:
• taste food before you add salt.
• reduce your use of high sodium
condiments such as ketchup, soy
sauce, pickle relish, mustard and
olives.
• dehydrated and canned soup mixes
contain a lot of sodium as do snack
foods such as potato chips and
salted nuts.
• read labels; if sodium is found near
the beginning of an ingredient list,
then it is more of a concern.
There are several easy ways to reduce your
sodium intake. You will be surprised how
good food can taste without it!
The secret to losing weight? There's really no secret at all. It's a matter of eating less
and exercising more. How one goes about that is a matter of personal preference but
there must be at least "50 ways to leave your blubber" and leave it for good!
• Make a new plan, Stan • Watch sugar and fat, Pat
• ,tart eating less, Jess • Your snacks count too, Sue
• Walk, run or swim, Kim • Look at the New You!

A planning committee hos been meeting since
February to bring five Health Fairs,to Huron Coun-
ty, Our purpose in designing and presenting the
Fairs is to provide interesting, hands-on health
Ibornin9 opportunities within an informal and
P
'funilike' atmosphere. Health Fair displays will of-
fer visitors a chance to obtain information -about
health issues important to them presonally and
to meet health professionals who are available
within the community to provide advice or
assistance. There will be something for everyone
ranging from fitness tests or a computer lifestyle
analysis to a roulette wheel that teaches about
heart health. Special events include the Heart and
Stroke Foundation's "Jump Rope for Heart Skip-
pers," Karate demonstrations and possibly a
chance to get involed in an aerobics class - just
