HuIly Gully Yamaha and CRC Pro-
ductions hosted the first grass drag
race (or snowmobiles this season.
Snowmobile grass drag racing offers
both spectators and participants a
great deal of excitement which was
demonstrated at the October 5 drag
race.
{ ocal riders fared well, with John
Munn, Hensall winning the pro class
- water skimming and Jason Hayter.
Varna third in 200 ATV class.
Local racers will be working hard
on their machines to have them run-
ning even better for the Ontario Grass
Drag Championship to be held on Sun-
day, Navemher 2 at Hully Gully.
Dear Mr. Batten;
There will be a meeting in the
dining -room of the lodge of the new
Exeter Villa on Thursday, October 23
at 7:30 p.m. to organize an auxiliary
and to find out how many people in the
community are willing to help as
volunteers.
The function of the auxiliary will be
to help program and plan events and
activities provided by the volunteers.
The organization will not be fund rais-
ing. We need both men and women.
You are not obligated in any way by
attending the meeting.
If you have a talent you would like
to share, a hobby you could teach
others, or an interesting pastime, you
could be a volunteer. We need people
who would talk to, read to, or play
cards with the residents.
The residents like to go for a walk,
a drive in a car, or a ride in a
wheelchair. If you can teach a craft,
the residents are eager to learn.
Travellers would you like to share
your trips by showing your pictures?
The Lodge needs a piano or organ.
The committee is interested in occa-
sional, part time or regular
volunteers.
Only by helping others, do you real-
- ly help yourself. Exeter Villa (the
Lodge and Nursing Home) needs you.
We hope to see you at the meeting
on October 23. Come in to the dining -
hall through the Lodge entrance.
Yours truly,
Irvine Armstrong

Cheeses tested by .4-H club
b MRs - L sUMMtt tsi .
The first meeting of the Granton
4-H club was held on October 9 at the
home of Andrea Bannerman. The
president Andrea Bannerman opened
the meeting with the 4-H pledge. All
members were present to answer the
roll call 'What kind of cheese does
your family buy?" with quite a wide
variety of answers.
We then named ten kinds of cheese.
made in Canada, and found that the
most popular i%ind of cheese in
Canada is cheddar. We then found out
that there is more than one mammal
.that gives milk. The members and
leaders then tried to name seven
types of cheese and we had to
describe each one.
Led by Mavis Harmsworth and
Deanna Beatson, we made mini
cheese cakes and cheese souffle. We
closed with the 4-H motto. We would
like to thank Mavis and Deanna for
leading and Andrea for hosting the
meeting. -
