Mohawks win again over Owen Sound, Chatham
The Exeter Mohawks continued
their unbeaten record in the Ontario
Hockey Association Senior "13" ex-
hibition season with a pair of weekend
victories.
• Saturday night at the South Huron
Rec Centre, the Mohawks edged the
strong Chatham Pontiacs 5-4 and the
next night also on home ice dumped
the Owen Sound Royals by a 9-2 count.
The Mohawks return to Chatham
tonight, Wednesday for a return con-
test with the Pontiacs and open the
regular season on Friday, October 17
in Ilillsburg and will host Tavistock
for the home opener, Sunday, October
19 at 7:30 p.m.
In the two weekend games, coaches
Jack Chipchase and Jim Guenther•
had a look at 23 different players. Jim
Benn who was with the Mohawks last
year played with Chatham Saturday
night and Sunday was back in the Ex-
eter lineup. He is employed in the
Chatham area.
Come from Behind
In Saturday's win over Chatham
the Mohawks came on strong in the
third period with three unanswered
scores to get the win.
Rick Pikul was in goal for the
Mohawks for the first period and a
half. Former Lucan junior Scott
McNair took over from Pikul and
after giving up a goal in his first
minute of action, held the opposition
scoreless the rest of the way.
The first period was even as far as
scoring was concerned. The game
was less than a minute old when Ran-
dy Aitken scored for the visitors and
four minutes later Bryan Baker
equalled the score for Exeter on a
three-way passing effort with Bill
Glover and Barry Baynham.
The only Exeter goal of the middle
period came at the 44 second mark
when Norm Campbell hit the
Chatham net on passes from John
Rowland and Al Gates.

tiacs good for a two goal margin.
The Mohawks wasted little time in
the third period in getting back on
even terms. At 3.09, former St. Marys
Lincoln John Kernick completed a
good passing combination with Norm
Campbell and Barry Baynham and

knotted the score with assists going
to Pete Tuckey and Ron Elliott.
The game winning goal came from
the stick of Barry Baynham as he was
sent into the clear by Pete Tuckey and
the veteran defenceman made no
mistake by deking the goalie out of
position on a good effort.
Chatham took 11 of the 19 penalties
handed out,by referee Brad Horton.
The Mohawks outshot the visitors 40
to 37.
