Clandeboye WI enjoys theatre
Members of the Clandeboye
Women's Institute enjoyed a social
night out for their October meeting.
They travelled to St. Marys where
they enjoyed the Dinner -theatre, held
at the Community Centre, sponsored
by Citizen Advocacy of St. Marys and
District.
A delicious hot beef dinner preced-
ed the one man show "Letter From
Wingfield Farm" a comedy by Dan
Needles, starring Ron Beattie. It was
well presented and everyone had a
good laugh.
A short business meeting for the
W.I. was held while we sat around the
table before the meal. The Better Liv-
ing Programs for 1986-87 were turn-
ed down for the lack of leaders and
not enough interest.
Banquet and luncheon tickets for
the London Area Convention have
been purchased and a delegate and
branch member will attend. An in-
vitation to attend Lucan Women's In-
stitute October 14, meeting to be held
at "The Villa" at 2 p.m. Speaker - Roll call - bring a treasure handed
down from an ancestor. Pennies for
Friendship will be a penny for each
ten pounds of your weight. Also a hat
or costume contest will be judged, so
it you have a hat or dress you wore
in some type of celebration, bring it
along.
Clandeboye members are remind-
ed of the -donations to the Christmas
Cancer Baskets or Cupboard, to be
brought to the November meeting.
A date of November 1 has been set
for disposing of the Clandeboye
United Church property and fur-
nishings. The time will be announced
later in an advertisement
forthcoming.
Elsie Lewis, Mary Scott and Hazel
Cunniiigham represented Clandeboye
Women's Institute as guests of the
South Lobo W.I held at Coldstream
Hall, Tuesday. Mary Henderson of
Komoka and Mabel Watson, of
Parkhill, spoke on their trip to the
A.C.W.W. conferencg in Ireland.
Mrs. Don Leslie, the former Pearl
Whiteford of Winnipeg, Manitoba and
formerly of Clandeboye renewed old
acquaintances in the community Sun-
day as she attended services at Lucan
United Church.
In conversation, she told me she
met her husband in the air force dur-
ing the early 1940's and is the mother
of 10 children, the youngest being 25
years of age.
She was accompanied to Lucan by
her sister Anne of London.

Dashwood fire
group donates

Dashwood Firemen have been a
busy crew raising money by means of
a yard and rummage sale. They rais-
ed $250 for Muscular Dystrophy and
are raising money for audio visual
equipment. Other projects involve
future fire equipment.
Peter and Sandra Kleinstiver,
Jessie, Joshua and Benjamin,
Guelph, were weekend guests with
Lorne and Helen Kleinstiver.
The Seniors Fall Rally will be held
October 16 at Dungannon Senior Cen-
tre with registration from 12 to 1.
Mr. and Mrs. Grisdale of Detroit
visited with Emil and Katherine
Becker, -Saturday.

The sermon .topic at Zion United
Church was taken from Genesis
22:1-14 and John 1220-33 titled "The
Voices We Hear". Worldwide Com-
munion Sunday was held.
Choir practice will be held Wednes-
day evening at 8 p.m.
At South f luron hospital Exeter are
Mrs. Hanna Lamport and Eric
Finkhviner.
The October U.C.W. meeting was
held October 2. A Thanksgiving wor-
ship service was presented by Mary
Draisey, Nancy Brand and Doreen
Lightfoot. Leila Finkheiner read
another chapter on study of the
Native Indians.
President Leila Finkbeiner presid-
ed for the business. The U.C.W. are
invited to Mount Carmel Bazaar on
November 4 at 8 p.m. It was decided
to pack a bale to be sent to the Mis-
sion House in London.

Communion at
Kippen church

St. Andrews Church, Kippen, par-
ticipated in world wide communion
Sunday, when they observed the
Sacrament of Holy Communion Sun-
day October 5, with Rev. Lorne Keays
in the pulpit.
Kippen's anniversary is Sunday Oc-
tober 19 at 11 a.m..Guest preacher will
be Rev. Bob McMullen, of Forest, a
former minister of St. Andrews.

Mrs. Barry Jeffery, Mrs. George
Kellett, Mrs. Glen Stewart attended
the South Huron Regional meeting
last Monday evening at Crediton
United Church.
Mr. and Mrs. George Kellett visited
Thursday evening with Mr. and Mrs.
. Bill Rohde.
Barry Cunnington was a patient in
South Huron Hospital, Exeter for a
few days. Get well wishes are
extended.
Mrs. Bob Hulley, RR Blyth and
Mrs. Don Bray spent the weekend in
London with Mr. and Mrs. .Jim
Dunlop.
Mrs. William Thomson, Exeter,
Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Jeffery, Mr. and
Mrs. William Rohde, and Mr. Stuart
Shier of Kirkton, were guests at the
Thomson -Walker wedding on Satur-
day at St. George's -on -the -Wye,
Thorndale and also the dinner'in the
church basement.
Church Service
Worldwide Communion was
observed in our church Sunday with
Rev. Robert Matheson in charge. The
choir sang an anthem "I Think when
I Read" with the accompaniment of
the organ played by Miss Agnes Bray.
Rev. Craig Railton of London Con-
ference office told the children a
Story. Rev. Railton also baptized Jen-
' niter Ann, Eythel Matheson daughter
of Rev. Robert and Mrs. Matheson.
Rev. Matheson read the scripture,
Amos 5:6-7,10-15, 11 Timothy 1:1-14,
Luke 17:5-10.
The meditation was entitled
"What's my line'?"
Rev. Railton, Rev. Matheson and
the elders namelyt'lerk of session
Murray Dawson, Lorne Ballantyne,
Mrs. Ken Duncan, Barry Jeffery,
Mrs. Lorne Passmore and Bill Rohde
served communion. After the service
people form both congregations
stayed for a Fellowship Hour.
Next Sunday, October 12 at 11 : 1 5
a.m. is the. annual Thanksgiving
church service.

Hurondale 4-H clubs report
On September 25 the first meeting
of the Hurondale II 4H club was held.
It took place at the home of leader
Joan, and member Sheryl Oke's
home. New members are Vicki Argyl,
Mary -Lynn Oke, and Lisa Hendrick.
Our project is called Milk Makes U.
We started with the 4H pledge. Roll
call was name a food you ate today
that was a gold source of calcium.
Next we talked about calcium and
why our• body requires it. We found
out about Osteoporosis which is a
disease from lack of calcium. Then,
we made nachos which were very
delicious and snacked on them for
lunch.
Our home activities were to conduct
a survey asking someone younger,
and older what milk products they ate
yesterday to see if they received
enough calcium. Also give an exam-
ple of a day's menu that provides
enough calcium for your body.
Officers were elected and the
results were president Sheila Dougall,
vice president Marion Ruegr,
secretary and treasurer Sheryl Oke,
and press reporter Lisa Hendrick.
Our leaders are Mary Dougall and
Joan Oke. Sheryl Oke adjourned our
meeting. •
The second meeting was held at the
home of leader Mary, and member
Sheila Dougall's home.
GRADUATES — Paul Spencer
Hoggarth, son of At and
Margaret. Hoggarth, RR 2 Kippen
graduated on Saturday,
September 27 from Mohawk Col-
lege in Hamilton with a diploma
in Mechanical Engineering
Technology. Paul is presently
employed with Champion Road
Machinery in Goderich.
We said the 4H pledge and then
decided to call ourselves The Dairy
Queens.
Roll call was name all the different
types of milk your family drinks and
how they are used. We talked about
facts or myths of milk. and some of
the nutrients milk has that are good
for your health. We also learned how
Friendship party
at Mount Carmel
The grade two students had a
friendship party at Our Lady 9f Mt.
Carmel School. It was onThuicsday,
October 2.
There were about 50 people at our
party. Some parents, grandparents
and some of our brothers and sisters
came.
We sang a few songs. Some
students read poems they wrote.
Some groups put on plays. All shared
our story from the class book we are
making.
After the program, everyone had
juice and a snack. Fun was had by
all!

EARLY
we get milk, all of the different kinds
of milk you can buy, and pasteurizing
milk.
In the kitchen we made hot cocoa
and cheese fondue dip. We tested
them out and everyone decided they
.were delicious.
Our home activities were to make
a milk drink or a white sauce for our
family or friends and get their com-
ments on it. Also to list some ways
milk powder can be used in cooking
and list the vitamins in milk from the
label of a milk carton. Meeting two
was adjourned by Marion Ruegr.
• Hurondale II A 4H club's first
meeting was hteld at Karen Ether-
ington's, September 30. At this
meeting officers were elected. They
are president Lorie Parker, vice-
president Jennifer Dalrymple,
secretary Dianne Hamilton,
treasurer Deanne Ballantyne, press
reporter Gordon Hamilton.
The main topic was on
Osteoporosis. After our bookwork was
finished we made mexican salad and
nachos.
The next meeting is scheduled for
Tuesday, October 7 at 7:15 p.m.
