At Mrs. McAllister's
Kippen East WI tour gardens
By Margaret Hoggarth
Kippen East Womens Institute met
on the lovely evening of September 17
at the home of Mrs. McAllister of
Bayfield. Before darkness fell we
toured the herb garden with Mrs.
McAllister as our guide. We were able
to sample some and learned of their
many uses. Among the many herbs
we were shown were lavender, yar-
row, peppermint, silver sage,
costmary, feverfew, sage, borage,
basil, cammomile, fennel, lemon
balm, burgamont, river mint and tar-
ragon, to name a few.
We then returned to the house
where the meeting was resumed.
Mrs. McAllister was thanked by
Mona Alderdice and presented with a
gift of appreciation. Helen MacLean
read a poem "Should You Go First"
and a moment of silence followed in
memory of the late Grace Pepper.
A 20 cent fine was charged to five
members who failed to wear their in-
stitute pin.

vention in London October 16 and 17.

entitled "Hugging". This was follow-
ed by participaction.

It". We discussed the importance of

about osteoporosis, the crippling
disease which mainly affects the
bones of older women.
We did a quiz tosee if we were
possible candidates for osteoporosis,
then figured out if we were getting
enough calcium in our diets.
We divided into two groups in the
kitchen and made Mexican salad and
nacho. Both foods taste exquisite.

Mayor's Proclamation
Of all the rights Canadians enjoy, few are more precipus than the right to freely own,
use, transfer or bequeath real property, so long as the rights of others are not infr-
inged upon.
All too often, the rights that come with home ownership are taken for granted. Yet
they are part of the Canadian heritage, rights that have been hard-won and must
be preserved for generations yet to come. Collective efforts to achieve this goal have
the potential to enhance the well-being of our community.
Real estate practitioners in EXETER, as members of the HURON REAL ESTATE BOARD,
and the Canadian Real Estate Association are setting aside a week to remind Cana-
dians of their property rights legacy and to encourage their participation in the respon-
sible preservation of the basic freedom to own private property.
Therefore, I, BRUCESHAW, Mayor of EXETER, do hereby proclaim 5 October to 13
October 1986 to be Private Property Week. I ask all residents of EXETER, to join with
the HURON REAL ESTATE BOARD and its members in marking this period to reflect
that we are free people endowed with the right to own real property - a right not
enjoyed in many other countries -.and that we are given the responsibility to pro-
tect that right.
