Field hockeyists win ninth
The South Huron girls field hockey
team has opened its 1986 season. In 11
starts they have nine victories and
two ties.
In St. Thomas they won the Central
Elgin "Titan" tournament. In .pool
play they defeated West Elgin, and
East Elgin and tied Strathroy. They
defeated Central Elgin 2-0 in the semi
final and Strathroy 1-0 in the final.
In the Red and Black tournament
the local girls came second in pool
play to West Elgin, having the same
number of points, but having one goal
less scored.
South Huron defeated Walkerton,
Stratford Central and Parkside and
tied with West Elgin. South Huron had
trouble scoring goals in the first three
games, and needed five goals in their
last game to tie West Elgin.
They almost met the challenge as
they scored four goals and applied
tremendous pressure. West Elgin
beat Central Elgin 2-0 to win the
tournament.
The girst game the girls played was
against Stratford Central which they
won 1-0 with Lee O'Rourke scoring
the only goal. Their game against
West Elgin was a 0-0 tie. In their third
game against Parkside, Joelle Lam-
port scored the only goal for a score
of 1-0.
The girls picked up their pace in
their fourth game with a win of 4-0
against Walkerton but it wasn't
enough for them to win their pool.
In Huron -Perth league play- the
girls have played twice, defeating
Stratford Northwestern 9-0 and
Norwell 7-0.
In Stratford, the Panthers easily
defeated the locals with the scorers
being Lee O'Rourke, Ronalynn Bell,
two each, Kim Crawford, Patty
O'Toole and Suzanne Wareham one.
The scorers in the Norwell game
were Lee O'Rourke with 4, and
Ronalynn Bell, Joelle Lamport and
Kim Crawford one apiece. In both
games Tina Campbell and Sherry
Kerslake recorded the shut outs.

Cross country meet
The Cross Country teams from
SHDHS participated in a meet last
week at UWO.
The midget girls placed second
overall with individual runners Kim
VanDongen placing fourth, Wanda
Turnbull, eighth, Michelle Chalmers,
tenth and Mandi Fields, eleventh. For
the junior girls Sandra Relouw plac-
ed seventh, Rosemary Regier,
twelveth and Christine Calmers,
twentieth. The girls placed fourth
overall.
Best individuals for the senior girls
was Sheila Regier, tenth, Sheri
Varley, twenty-third, and Stacy
Somerville placing twenty-fifth with
an overall finish of fourth.
The boys have less runners, but
they still manage to do quite well. The
junior boys placed seventh with Larry
Miller coming in seventh, Scott
Regier, eighteenth and Henri
DeBruyn placing twenty-eighth.
Craig Winbow placed sixteenth and
Glenn Durie placed twenty-third for
the senior boys with an overall finish
of ninth.

Kippen team wins
Final shoot at Claybird
The Claybird Gun Club held its an-
nual Trophy Trapshoot, Sunday with
30 shooters from the neighbouring
clubs of Mitchell Fish and Game and
Kippen Gun Club attending. They shot
for seven trophies and a share in 18
draw prizes- donated by Local mer-
chants. There was also a dinner pro-
vided after the shoot.
The team shoot was won by a Kip -
pen team with scores of Jamie
Caldwell - 69, Brad Mann - 64, Al Kyle
- 62, Jim Butcher - 61, Dan Crerar -
63 for a total of 319.
Mitchell was second; Terry
Caldwell - 66, David Van Allen - 69,
Glen Mogk 65, Bert Mahaffy - 66,
Gladys McGregor - 51, for a total of
317.
Another Mitchell team was third
and their scores were Paul Herman
- 67, Wess Sanders - 59, Murray
Christie - 51, Jim Locker - 63, Ken
Whetham - 59 and a total of 299.
The individual trophies were for
three classes. Only one shooter made
it into "A" class and that was David
Van Alien and he of cause took first.
In "B" class two shooters tied and
there had to be a shoot -off which
again was tied. Another shoot -off
resulted in Jamie Caldwell taking
first and Paul Herman second.
In "C" class four shooters were tied
and the shoot -off resulted in Jim But-
cher taking first and Steve Venner
second.
We would like to thank the follow-

SH gids basketball
The SHDHS junior basketball
players lost to Stratford Central in
their game on Wednesday, Cassie
VanDongen and Christine Rose were
high scorers with 11 and eight points
respectively.
IN the tournament at Madill on
Thursday and Friday the girls plac-
ed very well. They lost their first
game with Sarnia 47-15 which put
them into a consolation game Friday
against Arthur. The players won this
game 28-25. Friday afternoon they
played the consolation championship
against Wingham and w6n 38-14.
The team also won their latest ex-
hibition game against Woodstock Col-
lege Ave. 32-30. The high scorer in
that game was Cassie VanDongen
with 17 points.
Basketball games are scheduled for
Wednesday and Thursday of this
week.
The SHDHS senior girls basketball
team played a fairly strong game
against Stratford Central on Wednes-
day. The girls tried their best but
Stratford beat them 39-37. High
scorers were Kelly Coon with 11
points and Kellie Whiteford with
eiglit.
The girls travelled to Madill school
for a tournament on Thursday and
Friday. In their game against Arthur,
the girls lost 37-34 with Laurie For-
rester being the high4corer with 13
points. The Sarnia players wiped Ex-
eter out with a score of 59-16.
The girls picked up their playing
abilities in their exhibition game
against . Woodstock College Ave.
which they won 41-37. Kellie
Whiteford was the high scorer in that
game with 20 points.
