Mohawks beat senior 'A' club in exhibition
The Exeter Mohawks started the the right flight Sunday night as they
1986-87 Senior "B" hockey season on downed Owen Sound 10-6 in an exhibi-

The Owen Sound club competes in
a Senior "A" division with Coll-
ingwood, Creemore, Durham and
Shelburne.
The Mohawks get back on the ex-
hibition trail this weekend at the
South Huron Rec Centre. The
Chatham Pontiacs will be here Satur-
day night at 8 p.m. and the Owen
Sound Pontiacs make the Sunday
night trip to meet the local club at 7:30
p.m.
In Sunday's first game in Owen
Sound, Mohawks coack Jack Chip -
chase had Scott McNair and Pete
Parsons share the goal tending duties.
McNair was with the Exeter junior
Hawks during the 1977-78 season and
with the Strathroy Jets the past three
years while Parsons was with the
Mohawks last season. Rick Pikul who
was a standout with the club last year
will see action in one of the upcoming
weekend games.
Other newcomers skating out for
the Mohawks Sunday night were Rob
Core, Al Gates, Scott Eccles and Pat
Cyr. The latter was with the St. Marys
Lincolns a year ago.
Each team scored one goal in the
opening period and then the Hawks
moved ahead to stay be a score of 5-3
after two periods of play.
In the opening session Barry
Baynham scored the first Mohawks
goal of the season on a three-way
passing combination with Bill Glover
and Ron Elliott. Chris Bass replied for
Owen Sound.
Pete Tuckey registered on an
unassisted effort at 3:14 of the second
period and four minutes later Kris
Bedard hit the Owen Sound net on
passes from Randy Kraul and Pat
Cyr.
Before the middle frame conclud-
ed, Al Gates and Scott Eccles hit for
the Mohawks with assists going to Bill
Glover, Kris Bedard, Pete Tuckey
and Jim Benn. The Owen Sound goals
were shot by Bass and Bill Madill.
In the third period, Al Gates and
Pete Tuckey each fired their second
successful shot of the night while Jim
Benn and Kris Bedard also counted.
The goals by Bedard and Tuckey
came with the Mohawks enjoying a
one man advantage.
Randy Kraul gained two third -
period assists while Pete Tuckey, Pat
Cyr, Rob Core, Doug Latta and Brian
Mercer each helped on one score.
The third period Owen Sound goals
were chalked up by captain Lance
Kealey with two and a single from
Bob Kingston.
Coach Jack Chipchase is being
assisted behind the bench this year by
Jim Guenther who has hung up the
blades after a long career with Exeter
junior and intermediate teams.
