Some members of the Mennonite Church attended a full gospel businessmen's banquet at the Burkley Restaurant in Exeter on Friday even- ing, to hear special speaker Pieter De Vlugt of London. Jim Parkins, Eddie Steinbach and Mike Caers recently spent a few days fishing in the Parry Sound area. Best wishes for a speedy recovery are extended to Adrian Paul Ducharme who is a patient in Victoria Hospital. A birtnaay supper was held for Jeremy Rowan, son of Wendy and Bill of Blake, celebrating his first birth- day on September 24 with 29 relatives and a few friends attending. Sunday dinner guests at the home of Phil and Vonnie Overholt were her parents, Louis and Theresa Ducharme; Marilyn Hassal and son Greg; and Joe and Sandra Overholt Jr., and family, all of London, along with Barry and Karen Overholt,_Ex- eter, Joe and Nancy Becker and Can- dice of Dashwood, and son Dwayne Overholt. The family get-together was in honor of little Greg who was celebrating his third birthday and is a god -child of Phil and Vonnie. George and Rosalie Harvey and her mother Mrs. Margaret Masse of Red- ford, Michigan, spent the weekend at their summer home near St. Joseph's. Sunday dinner guests were his sister, Marie and Mozart Gelinas Sr., Zurich and Keva and Sharon Silvers- tein of London along with their son, John and Ellen Harvey of Michigan. ' A beautiful ceremony and mass was said in honour of "Sister Joan Overholt" who was celebrating 25 years as a nun on Saturday, September 27 at Immacul,aje Conceit tion Catholic Church in Stratford. - The choir that sang such lovely hymns came from Toronto. Following the celebration everyone enjoyed a reception and lunch in the church hall. Relatives attending from town were Wilfred and Martha Overholt, Dennis and Rose -Anne Overholt, Phil and Vonnie Overholt, Tony and Adeline Denomme, Marcella Overholt, Phil and Linda Regier, Mike and Beatie Rau and Wes and Anne Coxon. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sreenan of - the Maplewoods Apartments enjoyed a nice trip to Eldon House recently. A good time was had by all at the third annual Oktoberfest held at Hessenland Restaurant last Satur- day, September 27 with a large crowd attendin Eighteen boys are signed up for Cubs this year and have started their meetings on Tuesday night in the P.ublic School gym with leaders, Hub Thiel (as Akela) Jerry Zehr, Bev Oesch and Catherine Beirling. On Saturday the boys enjoyed go- ing hiking on the Bannockburn Nature Trails. Following the hike they were treated to a hot dog barbecue. Tuesday evenings over at the Lutheran Church eight boys are in Beavers under the direction of Phylis Deichert, Sharon Thompson, Patty Regier and Greg. Some members of St. Peter's Lutheran Church attended the Women's Auxiliary of the Waterloo Lutheran Seminary held September 24 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waterloo. Congratulations to Rose -Anne Overholt on being the lucky winner of Treasure Tours Trip for Two to Florida through a draw at the Tender Spot store in Zurich. Baptism Little Jill Marie Brandon, daughter of Pat and Terry, was baptized on Sunday at St. Peter's Catholic Church, St. Joseph, with god -parents being Patti Rau and Rusty Brandon. Following the Baptismal a get- together and supper was enjoyed by about 36 relatives at the church hall. Graduation Clarence and Joan Regier, sons Rob and Martin, and Gordon and Cecilia Smith attended the graduation ceremony of their daughter Barbara Smith (nee Regier from Mohawk College in Hamilton on Friday night, out of thu'lladiography Course. Also attending was her husband Robert. Card club The card club girls got together last Thursday at Frieda Moore's apart- ment to -celebrate Margaret Hesse's birthday. After a few .games of euchre, the 11 friends present enjoyed a delicious birthday cake made by Anne Flaxbard. Seniors enjoy bus trip Tuesday, September 16, 47 seniors from Zurich, Grand Cove and Port Franks travelled to Homestead and Conservation area farm at Leam- ington. They also had a tour of the Pelee Point winery in Kingsville. A smorgsbord dinner was enjoyed at the lake -shore hotel. We also visited Jack Miners' bird sanctuary and the Colasantes Tropical Gardens. Lunch was enjoyed in Thamesville. Visit by WI Thirteen Zurich Women's Institute members recently visited with Mrs. Tom Meyers at the Sheridan Villa in Mississauga where she is a resident, and enjoyed a tour of the Rest Home. Wedding Several relatives from town attend- ed the wedding of Mary Milne to Ronald Flannery on Saturday at St. Pius X Church in London which was officiated by her uncle, Father Paul Milne. The bride is the daughter of Pete and Edna Milne of Komoka. It was also a nice family get- toghether for Edna (nee Bedard) as all five sisters and two brothers were present including Percy Bedard and Nora Corriveau from Zurich. Congratulations to Donald Van Raay and Darlene Middleton who were married on Saturday at St. Pius X Church in Brantford. He is the son of Case and Annie Van Raay. Anniversaries Ervin and Marg Reichert celebrated their 40th wedding an- niversary on September 21 with a family dinner on Sunday at Hessenland with 14 attending. Those present were Carol and Craig David- son and two daughters of Goderich, Donna and Ken Thiel and three children, Zurich, along with their original bridesmaid, Mrs. Belvs Fuss and husband Bill of Hensall and best - man, (Ervin's twin brother) Ivan Reichert and his wife Mary (as of August 2) of RR 2 Hensall. Congratulations to Matthew and Mary -Lou Denomme who celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary on Monday September 29. Gerard and Rose -Mary Ducharme were married five years last week. Marie is a sister toYvonne Jeffrey, RR 2 Zurich and Georgiry Fournie, London. 25th anniversary A lovely time was had by all who at- tended the 25th wedding anniversary celebration of Francis and Anna -Mae Corriveau held at Mary Immaculate Parish Church Hall following the 7:00 o'clock mass on Saturday evening where the couple received a special blessing. The hall was beautifully decorated for the occasion and all en- joyed dancing to the music of a disc jockey. On September 27 is the annual Right to Life Walk-a-thon in London at St. Mary's Church, and their din- ner will be on November 13 in Strat- ford. The end of October is the Right to Life membership drive. A report showed the pie booth at the Bean Festival was quite successful in spite of the rainy day. The bazaar has' been set for November 8 at the school gym. The quilt will be on display made by Adeline Denomme and Geraldine Charette. The Deanery meeting will be held in Dashwood on Wednesday, October 8 from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., spon- sored by the Mt. Carmel parish this year. The ladies of Grand Bend United Church sponsored the September bir- thday party on Thursday evening. A musical program of organ, banjo and violin music was thoroughly enjoyed by the residents, along with a sing- song led by Mrs. Nola Love. Residents having birthdays during the month of Septethber were Mrs. Jessie Brock, Mrs. Melissa Gardner, Miss Laura Gascho, Mrs. Pearl Graham, Mrs. Mary Spacek and Mr. William Ziler. A special happy 99th birthday is ex- tended to Miss Minnie Hern who is still quite active. Birthday gifts were presented, courtesy of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Home. Following the program everyone enjoyed birthday cake and ice cream.
