Prize vegetables, animas
A lot of interest was shown by ex-
ibitors in crops, livestock, fruit and
vegetables at the 1986 Exeter fall fair.
John Thomson exhibited the best
while beans and Allan Hern was a
winner with the best sheaf of ensilage
corn.
In fruits and vegetables prizes went
td Andy Dixon, Ailsa Craig, Ida Red
apples; Gladys Cudmore, Hensall,
spanish onions; Earl French, Lucan,
hubbard squash; Anna DaImage,
Londesboro, best vegetable display
and Betty Brand, Crediton, most
peculiar shaped vegetable.
Poultry division winners were best
Leghorn bantam hen, Erroll
Scholtzhauer, Milverton; waterfowl
prize, Knudsen and Dennis, Petrolia;

best standard bird, Cliff Pepper,
Dashwood and best parti-coloured
bantam, Doug Gill, Exeter.
Fair director Donald Dearing ex-
hibited the champion Dorset Horn
ewe and the best market lamb belong-
ed to Louis Emke, Elmwood.
The Arabian show drew 38 horses
from as far away as Belleville and
Essex. Top winners were Carolyn
DeBoer, Bluevale and Robyn
Theedom, Clinton.
Best in the light horse amateur
owner and youth were Cam Darling,
Crediton and Carolyn Grenier, Ex-
eter. Best with Haflingers were Ivan
Winter, Vittoria and Robert
Crawford, Amherstburg. Bill
Stephens of St. Marys was a winner
in the Percheron draft horse class.
In the 4-H horse and pony club,
Janice Bishop of Exeter was the
highest scorer in the achievement day
competition and won the top
showmanship award.
Margaret McDonald, Brantford
won the best doe in the goat show
special and Kevin Willson, Bothwell
had the best French Alpine kid.
Car Show
The Exeter Kinsmen added a
display of classic cars to this year's
car show as part of the Sunday events
at the fair. Tom Humphreys, one of
the coordinators, said he was pleas-
ed with both the number of local en-
tries and the good crowd that turned
out.
A 1950 Ford owned by Harold
McGee, R.R. 6 Goderich, was voted
the most popular of the old cars.
Door prize winners were Kay Nan-
tais, Exeter, who took home the fram-
ed Labatt poster, and Joe Little,
Grand Valley, winner of the Kinsmen
T-shirt and a record.

The Huron Soil and Crop Improve-
ment Association is looking for lan-
downers and tenants who have
managed their farms to conserve soil,
water, and other natural resources
throughvarious conservation prac-
tices. The Soil and Crop Improvement
Association is recognizing such in-
dividuals with the Norman Alexander
Conservation Award.
Established in 1900, the award nam-
ed after Norman Alexander for his
work in conservation has recognized
individuals John Hazlett, Don Lobb,
Whyte Brothers, Bert Visscher,
Hogan Brothers and Gordon Lobb.
The Association is currently seek-
ing nominations for the award and
over the next several weeks will be
visiting nominees to select the reci-
pient of the award in 1986.
I know there are many deserving
individuals in Huron who could be
nominated for the award. If you know
of someone in your area, I'm sure that
individual would be honoured to be
nominated.
Nominations must be receiygd over
the next couple of weeks, since selec-
tion for the award is done in
September and October.
We would be pleased to receive
your nomination at the Clinton On-
tario Ministry of Agriculture and
Food office by October 3.

November 8, 1986 beginning at 9 a.m.
followed by a dance.
Members will be exposed to a very
interesting and entertaining program
with the theme being
"Opportunities".
