Panhlier seniors win 18-0
The South Huron senior Panthers
beat a very stubborn Stratford North
Western team by a score of 18.0 on
Thursday. This was their first Huron-
Perth league game.
The Panthers were off to a dismal
start when one of their touchdowns In
the first quarter was called back
because of a penalty at the line of
scrimmage. Another touchdown was
called back in the third . quarter
because of another penalty. Bill
Fisher ran in for both of the disallow-
ed touchdowns.
The South Huron defense was-
strong
asstrong when they had to be and were
responsible for eight of the 16 points
scored by the Panthers. They in-
tercepted the Huskies a total of six
times with Ross Keller intercepting
on three occasions.
Also intercepting the Stratford
quarterback were Sean Whiteford,
Jerry Lamport and Trevor Ratz. Joe
Gower and Gerhard Remple each
recovered a Huskies fumble. Scott
Heywood led the defence in key
tackles with ten.
The first points came on a safety
touch by Carlos Brand near the end
of the second quarter. The Panthers
led by a mere two points at the end
of the first half.
The underdog Stratford crew had
an emotional edge over the Panthers
but the Panthers came out much
stronger in the second half.
The rust accepted touchdown came
when a Stratford punt was blocked in
their end zone by Gehard Rempel who
immediately recovered it to give the
Panthers an additional six points.
Carlos Brand missed the convert, the
score remained at 8-0.
The offence, led by Panther pivot
Scott Miller, generated good drives
particularly in the third quarter, but
were hampered by penalty calls
against them.
In the final minutes of the game the
Panthers put forth a good scoring
drive. The touchdown was scored on
a 23 -yard run by Bill Fisher. The final
two points were scored when Jerry
Lamport received a bad snap on a
convert attempt, scrambled and pass -
.ed it to Vern lskauskas. This gave the
Panthers a 16-0 win over the North
Western Huskies.
The leading ground gainer was Bill
Fisher with 181 yards in 22 carries,
with quarterback Scott Miller rushing
for 126 yards in 14 carries.
Through the air Vern lskauskas led
the way with two receptions for a total
of 31 yards.
Ron Bogart, head coach, com-
mented on the game stating that there
were too many penalties against them
and that the offence had plays called
back because of it. He did however
note that the defense played tough
when they had to.
He summerized the team's effort
by saying that there was a lack of in-
tensity on both the offensive and
defensive units.
The South Huron senior Panthers
will play this Thursday at home to the
Listowel Lords

Hawks get only
tie in two games
The Exeter Hawks managed only a
tie in two exhibition games this week,
after winning in their first outing.
In Huron Park, Friday, the Lucan
Irish continued their mastery of the,
locals as they scored a 5-0 whitewash,
and on Sunday the hawks skated to
a 3-3 draw with their namesakes in
Mitchell.
In their battle for spots, hopefuls
have been overly aggressive on the
ice and both weekend games were
marred by a steady parade to the
penalty boxes.
The Hawks played in Lucan last
night and hdst Mitchell and Clinton at
Huron Park this Friday and Sunday.
The locals couldn't muster muchof-
fensive thre t in Friday's tilt against
the Irish an'ended up with only 23
shots on net. They had only four in the
final period.
Wayne Urbshott paced Lucan with
a two -goal effort with singles coming
off the sticks of Joe Febry, Terry
Knowles and Dave Hinge. Urbshott
also had two assists to lead in that
department.
The Hawks sat out 23 penalties, in-
cluding fighting majors and game
misconducts to Dave Cassone, Dale
'Timmerman and Andy Lerikos. Be-
ing banished for Lucan were Paul
Deplancey, Joe Febry and Dean
Doerr. The Irish sat out 21 penalties.
Lucan peppered 38 shots at three
Exeter netminders.
In Mitchell on Sunday night, the
locals spotted their hosts a 3-0 lead in
the first period and then clawed their
way back to post the tie.
Newcomer Dave Cassone scored
two goals and veteran George Pratt
had the other. Steve Gould, Dave
Skea and Dan Nairn picked up
assists.
Exeter had 29 penalties in the
game, including majors and game
misconducts to Brent Nairn, Sean
Whiteford and Steve Batten. The lat-
ter picked up a match penalty for
spearing and will sit out the next few
games with the accompanying
suspension.
