Many .ttr.ctlons. offer•d,
It's Exeter Fair tittle again!
The board of directors and I would
like to extend a personal invitation to
attend the 132nd fair. Our theme is
"Focus on Beans" so there are many
special events and classes connected
with this commodity.
Friday night includes the official
opening by Jack Riddell M.P.P.
Minister of Agriculture and Food,
local talent, a Barber Shop quartet,
crowning of the home craft Queens
and Princesses and awards to the top
boy and girl from the school fair. This
year celebrates the 20th anniversary
of the Queen of the Fair contest and
many of the former queens are retur-
ning to be part of the program. The
main feature remains the of
our 1986 Fair Queen. Who will ?
Saturday opens with three horse
shows, sheep, poultry and pigeon, and
A FAIR PUMPKIN — Many grade six students in area elementary
schools are entering the president's pumpkin contest at this
weekend's Exeter Fall Fair. Above, president Ray Cann is shown with

name of the Ladies Division to the
Homecraft Division, a move taken to.
acknowledge the many talents of the
gentlemen who have joined the lady
competitors in "the skills of the
hands". •
The junior aged young people, 12-21.
years, are showing enthusiastic in-
terest in the new arts and crafts
classes. Along with the painting and
drawing section they can also enter
drafting drawings and wood and
metal work articles. They also have
the opportunity to show their inven-
tiveness in a "snack using beans."
Another area of growing participa-
tion .is the "Golden Age" section
where seniors over 60 can displax
their talents and give inspiration to
younger viewers to take up and main-
tain an interest in some sort of hob-
by. They exhibit the results of happy
hours and are justifiably proud of
their efforts. We enjoy the sparkle of
pride in their eyes as they bring in
their entries. Perhaps you too could
join them in exhibiting in this
relatively new area of the fair.
No matter how bad the weather the
Floral Displays are always excellent
at Exeter Fair. The many categories
allow for various talents from single
bloom displays to theme oriented
floral arrangements. We will again be
displaying these in the foyer of the rec
centre so be sure to take a few
minutes to enjoy the unbeatable com-
bination of nature and a little T.L.C.
With 45 different sections and 10
specials in Arts and Crafts you will be
Aare to find something new you'd like
o try or something old we're doing
ain. Hobbies of all kinds will be
n here and creativity abounds.
veral "Christmas in September"
icles will give you lots of ideas to
get you going on both Christmas
decoration and gift ideas.
Photography exhibits are increas-
ing more and more lately and the
caliber of talent is excellent.
Everything from the kids to the
sunset to specials on "Churches" and
"Peace and Serenity" promise lots of
variety.
A change in the structure of the
Queen competition for sewing .and
domestic has been implemented this
,,year. Six specific classes will be us-
ed when calculating the exhibitors
standing in the Handcraft classes,
with seven classes being used for the
Domestic classes. Our fair has always
enjoyed the excellent quality of the
exhibits in these two areas and we are
sure you'll enjoy checking them this
year.
Some bean cookery will be on
display in the form of drop cookies us-
ing soya flour, soya bean brittle, a
bean cake with recipe as well as the
old favourite baked beans. A "Cook-
ing with Beans" demonstration will
be presented by Deb Campbell and
the Foods students from Centralia
College on Saturday al 12:30 and 2:30
p.m.
With your education in mind
several groups will be setting up
displays with either specific themes
or their own identity as a focus. Local
youth organizations, 4=11, Institutes
and adult organizations will have the
opportunity to silently impart some
information to the viewers. Be sure to
take a look and "see what they say".
With all this going on in only one
area of the fair you won't want to miss
seeing all you can during the
weekend. Whether you are exhibiting
with us for the competition or the en-
joyment of a job well done we ap-
preciate your support and continual-
ly endeavour to make it a rewarding
experience for both you and the
visitors. See you at the Fair!
hog shows. There are 411 club coagf
petitions and a feeder calf club show
and sale. Come out and buy some beef
for your freezer.
The parade begins at 11 o'clock.
There will be three bands, clowns
horses and many floats. See the T.A.
for route taken.
The second annual children mini
tractor pull starts in the auditorium
at 1:30 so kids don't forget to register
at 1:00. At 2:00 the second annual
rooster crowing contest takes place.
So come out and participate.
,At 3:00 the first novelty vehicle race.
with backhouse, tub or bed begins. A
number of groups have entered so it
should be fun for contestants and
spectators.
The presidents pumpkin contest
was open to all grade 6 pupils grow- •
ing the largest by weight, largest by
measurement and oddest shape will
be judged. Exeter boasts the largest
school fair in the area.
Fairmount Amusements will again
operate Friday night, Saturday and
Sunday. Saturday night dance to Ex-
eter's own Main Street Jug Band.
A horse and goat show will begin
Sunday activities.
The auto and recreational vehicle
show has expanded this year and
local choirs will entertain beginning
at 2:00 o'clock in the auditorium.
The fair will close with a chicken
barbecue beginning at 4 o'clock.
Please get your tickets in advance to
avoid disappointment.
So you see there are many things
planned for this three day event.
Hope to see you there.
Raymond Cann
Kids' show
is important
The school division of the Exeter
Fall Fair is a very important part of
the fair, developing showmanship and
competion as well as satisfaction and
pride for the children who enter. We
would like to encourage all elemen-
tary school children to submit a varie-
ty of exhibits, thus making our fair a
huge success.
Some new specials to look for are
the Presidents Pumpkin Special open
to all grade six pupils and sponsored
by fair president Ray Cann, and the
-Little People Special, with a birthday
theme, available to all grades. The
fair theme this year is beans and
there is a "Focus on BeansSpecial"
also.
The prize money for the boy and
girl winning the most points in the
school section has been increased to
$10.00 this year. So get those entries
in!
If you have not received a School
Fair prize list booklet, please contact
your school or call 235-0814.
Don't forget to clip the coupon for
a pizza from Angelos in the back of
your prize list book and drop it in the
box which will be located at the school
division section of the fair.
The rec center will be open Thurs-
day evening September 18 from 7 to
8:00 pm.. for any children who are
unable to bring their entries on Fri-
day, September 19. Please make sure
all entries have an entry tag when
they are delivered to the arena.
Have fun preparing your exhibits
and enjoy the fair!
