Royals bow out of playoffs
Tuesday Nairn eleminated the Ex-
eter Royals from the Southwestern
Fastball Association playoffs with a
• three game sweep of their playoff
series.
The Royals opened the scoring in
the bottom of the second as Jeff Rowe
homered. Nairn came back with two
runs in the third and three in the
fourth to go up 5-1.
Jeff Rowe's second homer of the
game in the bottom of the fifth nar-
rowed the count to 5-2. Nairn added
one run in the sixth to go up 6-2 and
the Royals on a single by Jeff Rowe
and a home run by Randy Kraul nar-
rowed the count to 6-4 in the sixth.
Nairn then scored three more runs
in the top of the seventh to take a 9-4
win. Ernie Schlegel got the win for
Nairn allowing four hits while strik-
ing out one batter. Brian Hodgins took
the Loss allowing five runs on six hits.
Dan Heywood and Scott Brintnell
finished up.
The Royals participated in the an-
nual Baird Lumber tournament on
the weekend in St. Marys.
They lost their first game 4-3 in 12
innings. Scott Brintnell pitched a
strong six innings while Dan Heywood
finished up. Brintnell also blasted a
long home run in the game.
Stonetown pitcher Dennis Near
went the distance while Doug Ken-
nedy knocked in the winning run.
In game two the Royals mercied
Se¢ringville 6-0. Brian Hodgins pick-
ed up the win. Game three saw them
play St. Pauls. They jumped this to a
4-0 lead after four innings with Jeff
Lindenfield's two run single the big
blow.
St. Pauls then scored three runs in
the fourth, one in the fifth and three
in the eighth to pull out the win. Dan
Heywood took the loss despite a
strong performance.
The St. Pauls team went on to play
six games, Monday and won the
tourney.
The Royals management would like
to thank those who supported them
through the season. Hopefully next
season they can go further in the
playoffs.

at Ironwood
Ironwood ladies held their wind-up
golf tournament Wednesday with a
very successful Texas scramble with
44 ladies playing. The event was won
with a 39 by Hazel Beaver, Mary Jane
Taylor, Carolyn Gilfillan and Kelly
Tiedeman.
As well the playoff results were an-
nounced with the 'A' flight champion-
ship wn by Marlene Parsons with 85,
followed by Hazel Beaver 87 and
Helen Burton 94. Lower net was won
by Janet Wedlake with 66.
'B' flight was won by Doris
llackney with 101 followed by Lorna
Russell with 106 and Carolyn Gilfillan
with 107. Lorna Russell also won low
net with 69.
'C flight was won by Barb Warden
with 101 followed by Barb Deitrich
with 112 and Fran Mickle with 110.
Low net was also won by Barb
Deitrich with 72.
Most improved golfer trophy went
to l.ossy Fuller an the best attendance
prize went to Carolyn Gilfillan who
never missed a Wednesday.

The new executive for 1987 were
elected as follows: Carolyn Gilfillan
as president, Susan Czypyha as
secretary-teasurer and Janet
Wedlake as captain. The 1986 ex-
ecutive wish them success and thank
all the ladies for a very succeksful
year and look forward to eveq more
golf next year.

Scott Brintnell played well. Lucan
Irish, Poplar Hill and Nairn have ad-
vanced while Ilderton and Lucan
White Sox are still playing.
Notes
Teams who participated in the
Royals tourney this summer are in
the O.A.S.A. tournaments. Ingersoll,
Verschoyle and Baird Lumber are all
in "A" in Caledonia while Fullerton
was in Mitchell in "B" ball this past
weekend.
Next weekend Tavistock Mer-
chants, Petrolia and Stone town are
in the OAS Int. C tourney at Port
Perry, Stonetown beat the Royals and
Palmerston to win the
championnship.

Men honing their -Ironwood games
44. Close was Lee Webber at 47, while
Bill Montgomery was third on count -
back from Peter Hrudka at 49. Dave
Frayne continued to outperform his
handicap and won low net at 31, two
strokes better than Peter Hrudka at
33 with Gus Gregus third at net 34.
Don Currell and Dave Boltzmann
won closest to the pin contests on hole
numbers two and eight respectively.
In the continuing "skins" competi-
tion, Don Cowan finally was reward-
ed by winning hole number two, Dave
Holtzmann garnered number three,
Jim Campbell won holes four to six in-
clusive, while Dave Boltzmann
rounded out a memorable day by win-
ning holes seven to nine inclusive.
As Ironwood men's club champion-
ships approach, the biggest field of
the season battled to hone their games
in Tuesday's competition sponsored
by Exeter Sun Service.
Dave Holtsmann again captured A
flight tow gross with a one -under -par
34. Runnerup was Bob Fletcher at 37,
with Don Gifford thir'den countback.
Paul Charrette also shot 37 to record
divisional low net honours at net 31.
Ken Pinder and Jamie Gaul were
close at 34 net. ,
In B flight, Brad Daters shot his
best round this year to win low gross
at 37, one stroke better than Wayne
Pearce. Dennis Rowe carded 40 to
GODERICH SURFING
Goderich Windsurfing with the
Bluewater Boardsailing Club will host
the third annual Goderich fun cup this
Saturday and Sunday September 13
and 14.
The races will be held in the Point
Farms Provincial Park, Goderich.
Professional and amateur board -
sailers from all over Ontario will be
competing at this popular event.
Classes will include men's heavy,
men's light, women's and youth.
Racing will begin at approximate-
ly 11:00 a.m. on both days. Awards
will be presented on Sunday after the
races.
Spectators are welcome.
